I was just at wwe.com watching the Finlay is coming videos. I wasn't a WCW fan when he was there so I don't know much about him. What kind of threat can he be? Is he US or World championship caliber or a jobber or mid carder?
Personally, I don't see Finlay being used as anything more than a JTTS. He doesn't have youth on his side, and after his leg injury in WCW, you've got to wonder how much mobility he's got left.
That being said, he is a TOUGH BASTARD. I'm not sure if Smackdown are really in need of a brawler right now, but if they are, they've got a damn good one here. He's going to have to find a new finisher though. Did he ever use anything besides the tombstone?
I never saw him as anything more than a jobber in WCW. He was never a strong television champion and he never really did anything truly memorable. I don't remember his matches with Benoit and Booker T being much more than average in 1998.
If that's his gimmick (like Technical Wrestling is Beniot's) and let that go through, like Beniot he'll get over. They also could put him in the Foley role of helping launch youngster's careers. Just because he's older and mobility may be lacking (MAY be lacking, he's be training for months don't forget) than the rest doesn't mean they can't do anything with him.
Looking forward to seeing him an action.
To celebrate the passing of the Troll Amnesty (and for otherwise no reason at all), I present to you the very best of Trolling here on The W. This Troll Moment of the Week is brought to you by;

I just hope he gets better than Hardcore Holly treatment, and doesn't get stuck in yellow and orange camo again.

On a side note, where has Hardcore Holly been as of late? I don't recall even seeing him on Velocity. I'm not really a fan of the guys, but he could be of some use on a talent-depleted Smackdown roster.
I remember watching Finlay, too. He wasn't a tremendous talent, but he certainly wasn't horrible or anything.
I don't think it could hurt at this stage to throw some veterans in the mix on SmackDown. No, they don't have to be headliners, but just to deepen the roster a little, it's not a bad idea. I'm thinking he and JBL could probably put on a decent little brawl.
I remember an article back in an old WCW magazine which was Fit being mad because they never spelled his name right I can't remember if it was Finlay and they spelled it Finley or vice-versa, but I just remember it was like three or four pages long just him complaining about how they couldn't spell it properly. As for wondering if he was good I seem to remember him and Brian Knoobs having some decent garbage brawls for the Hardcore title, and I think he had a match with Norman Smily(sp?) that I laughed at for about two weeks.
They brought in Kenzo Suzuki. They just brought back Mark Henry. Why not bring Norman Smiley back, it's not as if in-ring finesse is their top priority at the moment.

He had a tremendous brawl with Regal at Uncensored 97, other than that, he had decent matches against Booker T and Benoit. He should be a ok undercard guy, no more.
Someone please tell me what in the world is the WWE's obsession with calling superstars by their last name? It's getting really annoying. Lashey? Finlay? What's next? Get the "GREGORY" out, because they'll just call him Helms? Come on, now...

Good to see I'm not the only one bothered by that. It's sort of cool for Batista (even though he's randomly referred to as "Dave Batista") and Heidenreich (even though he was 'Jon Heidenreich" on Raw), but it's silly to have every other guy lose their first or last (Sylvan) name. How is Fit Finlay not an asskicking name?
He's got that hand-waving deal. He can become INVISIBLE! This means MONEY, Dawg! - AWARulz on Cena.

When was the last time a heel won the Rumble, anyway? Was Michaels a heel in 1995? edit: and actually challenged for the title at Wrestlemania, to preemptively discount Big Show*, Vince McMahon, and Steve Austin (1997).
