WHAT WORKED:

-Team Florida v. Team 3D was perhaps not as good as Team Florida v. Big Show. But Team Florida v. Team 3D was definitely better than Team Florida v. Choshu/Uwano. Oh yeah, Week 12 I said "Holy shit is D-Von jacked...in a couple weeks he'll be bigger than Lashley". It is three weeks later and its official. Juiced D-Von bigger than cycling down Lashley. Kind of liked the mic work putting over the belts. In the past TNA has been really bad about where they put there commercial breaks in the middle of matches. And I should point out that both here and in the later 6-man the breaks were placed really well where they didnt break up the action.

-Samoa Joe is given mic time. I really disliked them having Joe work quiet savage making King Kong faces while the face talked on the mic. Joe gets to talk on the mic now. The blank canvas is nice imagery. Joe portraying himself as painter...thinking man...an artist. A violent thinking man. Its something Joe actually does well. Joe is really good working as worlds most sadistic Nick Bockwinkle. Fits him better than silent savage beast.

-Aries, Shelley and Strong are "The Next Generation"...hmm that has a nice ring to it. I wonder how long Joe will hold onto the belt before Aries kicks Shelley out of the "Next Genration"and finally gets the belt off Joe? Six man was really good.. They do this almost Japanese booking of the six man where role in the match seemed to be based on seniority. Strong and Sabin were booked in this as the least senior, the guys on each team that you knew were going to be the guy to eat the pin. In the ROH Generation Next six mans, Strong worked as the power guy on the team. Strong, as least senior TNA guy in the next Generation, worked in the Jack Evans role in this six man. Enjoyed him working that way, but took awhile for me to adjust to him in that role. I really liked the section on the floor with Aries and Strong double teaming to take out Daniels. The whole sequence starting with Daniels & Sabins double dives to the Daniels gets dropped with a drop toe hold into to guard rail followed up with Aries threatening Daniels post concussion head with chair and then capped by Styles drop kick save coming in out of corner...nice nice sequence. Good match. This fed started its Spike run with weekly shitty X division three wayssix man tags are such a better way to showcase everyone in this match. This fed really should move to an EMLL style trios based format as this, the Jarrett, Brown,Abyss v. Styles, Hardy, Hoyt match and the Rhino, Dudleys v. Jarrett,AMW match are pretty much the best things theyve done.

WHAT DIDNT WORK:

-Well this fed may know how to do trios matchesbut they have no idea how to do dos de tres caidas. What the hell was the point of that Roode v. Killings thing? Is that supposed to heat up an angle? Killings just beat Roode twice. Why would anyone want to see them work again? I mean this whole segment was just awful and meaningless. Good God I hope Killings isnt stuck tagging with Rhino. Why are all team Canada matches built around faces wanting to get their hands on Dmore spots? Not all MX matches were built around face wanting to get hands on Cornettethat would be masturbatory and serve to burry the team at his expense. Plus Dmore isnt Cornette. He really doesnt do anything so bad that it merits the face taking their eyes off the opponent. Plus he is really awkward doing the please dont hurt me Im afraidspots.

-The Sting tribute videos were amusing as Sonjay Dutt thinks Sting is going to bring fans, Christian thinks it beings legitimacy (huh?), and Sabin is big fan of the match with Hogan with Hart telling the ref that hes not allowed to count fast. WHAT???? Sabin is a big fan of that atrocity? I mean I guess Regal, Vader, Cactus Jack, and Flair all have WWE contracts so he couldnt mention that big fan of those feuds. So all that was left was Hogan, Muta, Nikita, and the Fabs. But stillDisappointed that they didnt have Daniels mention his favorite Sting moment When I ordered Vampiro to burn him alive. The heel tribute did nothing for me. I think Chris Harris may have actually worked in WCW as a fake Sting before and it was amusing how comfortable he seemed doing it. But there was nothing in that angle tasteless enough to actually be a taunt. The 3D funeral was actually a taunt that you could see the faces wanting retribution forthis was just there.. Only reason to do in ring instead of as pre-taped skit ( funeral skit was pre taped) was so that it could lead to the big pull apart brawl? Why that skit lead to a brawl? I dont know. Would the skit have been more effective as backstage pre-taped segment? Yeah. Did the faces clear the ring accomplish anything? Honestly, if you're going to do a fake Sting segment bring in Barry Windham and Jeff Farmer. I might pay for a Windham/Farmer v. Sting/Christian PPV main event. I would definitely pay for Windham,Farmer, Jarrett v. Styles, Sting, Christian trios PPV main. No Windhamno Farmer this whole thing stays on the bottom.

-Speaking of meaningless taunts. You know Ive talked a bunch of trash about Christians fashion obsessed taunts. And I want to make it clear that its not that I dont think wrestling angles cant be built around aesthetic arguments. I really liked the Rap v. Country feud in WCW. I mean of course it was a different time. It was post Cold War, pre War on Terrorism and economy doing well enough that people were able to build their identities around aesthetic purchases and were really loyal to those purchases. At the time I thought the feud was the futurea world where Brad Armstrong and Kendall Windham feuded over the merits of NO rap vis--vis Dreamworks style Country, where Al Snow and Val Venis would feud over the merits of representational v. abstract art. It's 2006 and a different time. Nationalism means more to peoples identities than their artistic choices these days (although I cant think of a successful nationalism based angle in last 5 years) but I still think you can build angles in 2006 around artistic choices. That said the choices need to be really clear. You can feud rap v. country, representational v. abstract art, neo-grunge slob apparel v. glam fashion. You cant build your feud on artistic distinctions that are too small. Can't feud Atlanta Bass vs. NO bounce. What Christian does which is try to build a feud on boot cut v. straight leg jeans is stupid. But for however stupid that itnot as bad as this weeks Jarrett mic work based on making distinctions between different modern country artists. Jarrett accused Sting of being so uncool that he listens to modern country that appeals to thirty year old suburban housewives instead of listening to modern country that appeals to twenty year old suburban housewives. You used to be cool and listen to Aaron Tippin CDsbut now youre content to buy Montogomery Gentry CDsoooh BURN!!! WORST WRESTLING TAUNT EVER!!! You can't build a feud around that.

-So if youve been reading these or watching the TNA you know the best angle on TNA has been the 3LK/4LK dissolution storyline with everyone involved delivering strong mic work and this nice slow build. Did a nice enough job laying the foundation for the story with the sports entertainment segments that I thought when the actual turn came it would be meaningful enough to make you want to see the matches and give them the kind of heat they need. I wrote last week that I thought they kind of blew the turn. This week really felt like they ruined it. How do you do such a good job building towards a climax and then go and blow the climax? Last week they did the beating of Bullet as a backstage angle which lessens the impact, this week they needed strong face mic work to reinforce that what the heels did was truly beyond the pale.

Ron Killings grabs the mic:

You know I wasn't gonna be a part of all this. Crew was done. Family was over as far as I could tell and I was on my own. But after what Konan did to Bob..I mean he let you in his home. He let us all in his home. Kip here ain't blood of him but he's adopted the name James. I ain't blood of his neither but until he's out of the hospital..I too am gonna take the James name. And Ron The Truth James is gonna beat a mudhle in you in his name"

or you just do BG:

When I was young I thought my dad was superman. Thought he was the toughest man alive. He was the fighting fireman and he had some wars in the ring, absolute bloody wars from one end of the South East to the other. He had chain matches, cage matches, boot camp matches and hed be hurt. Wrestling is a hard life. Hed be hurt bad but never show the pain. Had too much pride. Had his face destroyed and had to be surgically rebuilt. Never showed the pain, never brokenbut last night I saw him lie in the hospital after what you did to him. Not even in the ringyou didnt even have the balls to attack him in the ring but on the street like a common thug. Saw him in the hospital and he looked broken. Not just physically broken but he trusted youlet you share Thanskgivingheld his hand in prayer before we ateYou tried to break my dadand I swear on all that is Holy that I will break you.

Might be better to just have it be BG as you want to start the angle with James bros consistently outnumbered...that way you can build to them trying to recruit a third partner. I guess you could do the Flair goes to Blackjack's ranch angle and have BG recruit a Fuller to fill out the trio...I know my dad and my family and your family havent seen eye to eye. Our families been feuding for decades but their was some respect behind that feud and there is a bond in the blood that weve spilled togetheror you have BG go to Oles house to recruit CW or Roger Ole I know you and my dad havent always seen eye to eye and the two of you took years off each others lives, and youre family and my family have some issues. But I was down on the Fuller ranch and I couldnt appeal to their sense of loyalty to your rivals. And then I thought to myself well I should go to the Anderson ranch, cause if I cant appeal to Ole with that I can always appeal to his racism. You could have Fuerza the Mexican man of honor repay the blood debt. You could also just bring in any of the other Armstrongs to fill out the trios feud. You do the trios matches for awhile and in best of all possible worlds you eventually bring in a recovered Bullet and an older Puerto Rican(Pierroth or Gypsy Joe) to set up the 8 man brawls. Well anyways enough of fantasy bookingthe point is they did the climax to the angle last week and they needed to do mic work this week to reinforce the importance of the climactic act. Instead Konan comes out and intros his Latino Xchange with Apollo and Homicide. They beat up Naturals and Kip and BG make the save for the Naturals.

Yep the James Boys arent upset that the Latino Xchange lured Bob into a muggingtheyre just faces coming out to stop heels from taking advantage of a couple undercard babyfaces. Shitty. This felt Invasion, Bret hart in WCW or Goldberg in WWF levels of blown. They might be able to recover the angle but this was a screw up.

Does Hogan not have a contract with the WWE tomk?

Sabin's about 24-ish, and was around my age when the Sting/Hogan feud was happening in WCW. And it was a pretty big and exciting thing at the time and it did attract a lot of fans and ratings. Guys like Sabin and Styles were all really into mid-late 90's WCW, and it wasn't until after a while that I recognized how bad the Starrcade match actually was.

If you didn't realise THAT NIGHT how badly that match suuuuuuucked, *specifically* the way the finish went down - the finish that Sabin went out of his way to single out for praise.....I can only shrug, 'cause I don't know what to tell you.

Sabin's comments really DID make him look like... not even a mark, but worse. Like an idiot.

Also, it is just me or have they forgotten that Sting's appeared on a handful TNA Mark 1 PPVs? It always sounds like they're acting as if nobody's seen Sting wrestle since 2001.

They're saying Sting hasn't appeared "on TV" since WCW's demise, meaning they don't count the weekly TNA PPVs. However, the in-ing footage of Sting they do show (what little there is) is of his previous TNA matches.

Forgive me CRZ. You are right and everything, but back then I was 14 at the time, I was a huge Sting mark and I was just getting back into wrestling. I didn't really know what I know now or internet news, commentary and everything.

I was disappointed that they did the false finish, but overall I thought it was cool that Bret came out and helped Sting win the title. It was a memorable moment for me at the time.

Even if Sabin was a lil tike at the time of the match...he's in the buissness know...and that's a match that is generally regarded as having killed Sting's heat...having killed an entire big angle. What CRZ says is right comes off as more than a mark. Comes off as an idiot.

I wrote the report after watching the tivod show.and so I wrote about it as though Sabin was the fool. But read CRZ's comment...I should also point out that TNA using that segment makes the promotion also look stupid.

Not just marks...idiots.

Seeing as there are far more marks then smarts in the wrestling fan base, I have no problem with another wrestler mentioning a shitty match as being his favorite.

That match made money. Sure it was horrible the way they ended it, but it's probably the first thing a casual WCW watcher would have remembered. It was pretty much the last 'big match' he had, in the eyes of a casual viewer.

TNA was actually smart to have someone bring it up on thier new television show, which they want to get new to tune into, and since they're pushing Sting as this huge wrestling icon, you gotta go with what your new viewing public is more likely to remember, which is a shitty match that got people to watch the PPV instead of something from the past few years when they were PPV only.

You also don't want to mention to many of the competitions employees, so they went with a safe person, like Hogan, who everyone knows.

From a business standpoint, it seems like a good choice.

But even marks hated that finish. That's the point. Like, seriously, everybody saw that finish and basically said "what the fuck?!" in one unanimous voice. You don't need to be a smark, or in the industry, to realize how horribly executed that finish (and the match itself) was.

I won't go so far as to call Sabin an idiot, although I suspect he must be drinking pretty heavily to actually "mark out" for something like that.
