Originally posted by squizExactly, it started while Angle was feuding with Stone Cold during the "What?!" period. I remember there were times when it was a call and answer of "You Suck!" "What?!"
Actually, the first occurrence of the "You Suck" chant was a Smackdown! in February of 2001. It was right before No Way Out 2001, and he was facing the Rock. He had them play his music video three or four times, and in the middle of the second or third time the crowd started in on him.
In response to the "you suck" Edge did not start it. Kurt and Edge's long feud ended in a hair macth. Angle lost (obviously). The next night on Raw Edge wanted the fans to chant "your bald" to Kurt istead. This was a fairly weak attempt by the WWE to change the fan's chanting "you suck" to Kurt. As far as Angle winning the title I think it's good. It maybe could have done better and I really like the RR winner becoming the World (WWE?) champ. But the WWE has been half assing their title issues for a while. So finnaly 3 of the 4 promblems (if Cena was a problem) have been dealt with. With Edge murdering Flair on Raw hopefully all 4 singles title will be filled by wrestlers who actually wrestle for their titles.

Edge & Christian began the craze of fans singing along to guys' theme songs: Back in October/November 2000 there was a celebration on the RAW after No Mercy (and Kurt Angle's first WWE Title win). Angle gave presents to E & C of kazoos and streamers and in subsequent weeks they did theme song renditions of their theme, Angle's, HHH's and Benoit's.

In terms of straight battle royales determining World Champions, weren't the last 2: Flair winning the belt in WCW during the New Blood Era as the company rapidly faded and Larry Zbyszko avoiding a Tom Zenk body attack to win the AWA World Title as the company's death spiral picked up speed? Not the best of precedents for SD. And, was the decision to remove the belt from Batista in this manner his or Vince's? Unless Vince banned him from the ring, if he could be in the building, he could drop the belt. It does have to be viewed with the quick Edge title win and the shocking Angle win that it is more likely the booking is taking place on the back of a napkin rather than a long, thought out plan building to Mania. Perhaps this seat of the pants booking shakes things up and works. Or, the day after Mania the reset button gets hit yet again.

John Cena's WWE Title reign totalled 280 days [3-April-2005 to 8-Jan-2006; coincidentally the exact same length of the reigns of John Layfield, Yokozuna & Triple H's long-ass World Title reign]
Dave Batista's World Title reign spanned 282 days [3-April-2005 to 10-Jan-2006], and was the longest reign since Diesel's 1994-95 WWE Title reign.

Pretty crazy that both Batista and Cena won their respective titles at WrestleMania 21 and held them for long enough that a lot of us were honestly wondering, "Are they actually gonna both hold onto the belts through WrestleMania 22?" Then, both ten-month title reigns are ended in the span of three days. Wild week!

Sometimes I wonder if this entire past year hasn't been about HHH wanting to prove what would really happen if he took his ball and went home.
Good, bad or indifferent, it has seemed that way and the booking has followed suit. Yeah, I know I am invoking TEH BACKSTAGE POWERZ card, but the increased McMahon presence along with some weak attempts to return to the Attitude Era thrown in has done little to make me think otherwise.
Did Heyman sign his new contract? I mean, Steph has got to take leave at some point or will the old DX bus become a mobile maternity ward? Boy, imagine the skits that will bring!
I honestly do hope it's all been poor booking and that the problems aren't to deeply SEEDED (if you know what I mean).

Didn't Flair win the WWF title at the Royal Rumble? I think so.
In response to the whole Edge/"You Suck" thing, the chant that Edge tried to get started for Kurt was "You're Bald!", after Edge won their Hair vs. Hair match.
After Matt Tracker hijacked the thread to ask about the You Suck chant, wesman1111 answered his question 4 hours later. Despite this, there's about 5 more posts on the subject, as if the previous posts didn't exist.
It's nice that people are trying to being helpful, but read the whole thread before you help out - you're confusing the thread and making it read like a skipping record.
I still have the Observer covering it. Wade was effusive, to say the least.
I think you've offended both men in two lines!
FWIW, this move is so last minute, Kurt's not even going to be on the SmackDown! Mexico tour next week.

My apologies for diverting the thread, but I appreciate the clarifcations. I rely on the Encyclopaedia Wiener-ica.

So! Everybody was complaining about how Angle won the title, but meanwhile, that battle royale rocked, jobberrific or not. The lengthy final segment with Angle vs. Henry was probably one of the best matches I've ever seen anyone have with himself. Angle is totally awesome. Were the fans chanting "You rock!" along with Angle's music at the end?! He does, you know. I wish Tazz and Cole would have pointed that out so the fans would be more likely to do it in the future.
That was actually a pretty cool edition of Smackdown, despite the fact that there were only two matches. Batista's interview was very well-done, given the fact that some of the fans were actually weeping in the stands. It really seemed like this might be Batista's last time in a WWE ring (which, for all we know, it might be).
Orton/Benoit was a good match, and it sets up loads of feuds for the US title.
Piper's Pit was just goofy as hell, but fun. Boogeyman did us all a favour like a good face should; now without that stupid blemish gimmick, we can see Jillian Hall in diva photos and whatnot. Booyah!
The battle royale was pretty fun, though I wish we could've seen a longer showdown between Rey/Hardy/Lashley and Henry/MNM. A Lashley/Henry feud would be interesting, given how Henry dominated Lashley so easily during the match....it makes Lashley more relatable, and will put him over all the stronger if he overcomes Henry in a match.
"Oh, gosh, you know, I'm not much on speeches, but it's so gratifying to leave you wallowing in the mess you've made. You're screwed, thank you, bye."
The only part of Confidential I liked was the piece on Lesnar which was very good. Lesnar training was good, but that was on Smackdown. I think the TLC piece aired on one of the "Best Of" shows a few years ago. Next Week:
