I think Smackdown can work out fine actually. Have Batista drop the belt to Henry through cheating or some such and injure him giving him time off. Have Rey take revenge for his friend and have the little big man beat the strongest man on the roster. Then through some twist with this whole Orlando Jordan stuff have Booker win the U.S. Title and have him and Jordan fued over THAT belt to play off that whole "respect" deal. Elevate Benoit into a fued with Rey for the big belt and enjoy some of the best matches WWE has put on in years.

Yeah, that will never happen.

This may sound like a strange idea, but I'm starting to think that the Edge title win was something they added to the show at the last second.

I wouldn't be surprised if the crowd reactions to the Elimination Chamber caught everybody backstage flat-footed -- "wait, uh-oh, we booked him to win" -- and then instead of changing the complicated Elimination Chamber booking on the fly, they thought quickly and slapped together a one-minute title change to end the show.

I mean, this wouldn't be the first time we've had Vince show up at the end of a pay-per-view and make an important declaration after something about the booking of the main event has gone screwy on them. (At least this time he didn't blow out his leg!)

Anyway, that's the vibe I've been getting from the whole thing. It's not like I'm going to complain at all about Edge winning the belt, that's for sure.

Let me predict now that they'll trot out the Adam Copeland yearbook photo with the caption "Most likely to become WWF Champion". If not tonight then soon.
Wonder what Christian thinks about this?

It is funny that there was such a big attack on JBL, who played his character believeably enough as a heel champ was almost universally reviled on the 'net, but Cena, whose character had become stale and unlikeable as a face champ is getting some internet love.

They've known for months that Cena was becoming more and more hated by fans. So much so that they've actually had to mention it on tv a few times. It was NO surprise to the WWE that fans wouldn't be happy with him winning the Chamber match.

Regardless of how the fans may or may not take to a match ending, McMahon doesn't just decide to add main event matches or change world titles just because people didn't cheer as much as he thought they would. The Royal Rumble screw up was an honest to God screw-up, so something had to be ad-libed to fix it.

Besides, didn't Edge make some reference about "my work isn't done here tonight" or something near the first half of the show? So it's safe to say that they've planned this for at least the last little while.

That would be unbelievably stupid, so no, I hope that doesn't happen.

...and yet they went ahead with continuing Flair/Edge anyway. This looks to be the longer term feud for Edge than the one with Cena. Cena/Edge lasts until Rumble. They would've dropped the Flair stuff if they had no intentions of continuing it (especially when it just got started)

Just because they're continuing it, doesn't mean it isn't stupid. Flair in no way/shape/form deserves to win the HW title, nor should he be fighting for it on the biggest show of the year. I like the guy & all, but that's not the spot for Flair.

I hate to disagree, but they could do a LOT worse than Flair in this situation. Forget for a second the concept that they need to give the Mania spot to someone who deserves it, or someone who will gain career-wise from it. Instead think about a situation that's a)gonna make them money, and b)go over huge with the live crowd. If they booked Flair Vs. Edge right-turn the feud into a "Ric's Greatest Hits" package, play it up as his last hurrah, no-one gives ihm a serious chance but he believes in himself, etc.-then that'll sell more tickets and pop more crowds than Cena/Hunter, or Cena/Edge, or Michaels/McMahon, or anything else they could conceivably spin from current storylines. The fans love Flair, and he's more active now than he has been for a number of years. This could be the last big angle needed to close out his in-ring career. And I wouldn't complain.

But only if done right.

The only cold water I can throw on this is that Flair did that already when he beat Vader in Charlotte.

In 1993.

And if this was another Flair/Edge feud, I would root for Edge if only because they need to put and keep the title on new faces. I'd much rather see Flair given a special commemorative heavyweight belt at WrestleMania and let the crowd cheer him til they're hoarse in appreciation of his career.

Now if he were to beat Triple H, yeah, I admit I'd be all over that, but only because the title isn't moving from a new guy without signfiicant reigns. And then Flair could retire as the champ and RAW could begin a tournament the very next night.

You have Flair beat out Edge in a miracle victory at Mania, then Edge leaves him in a bloody, beaten mess in the rematch come Backlash. It gives the crowd a MASSIVE mark-out moment at the big show, Flair has one last run with a belt he practically created, and Edge gets brutal, bloody, cred-creating and, crucially, legit title victory for his second reign. That would do good business, and it wouldn't hurt Edge one little bit.

Are you talking about the WWE Heavyweight Championship? As we know it? Because if you are, I don't think Flair established that title...I think that was done by that Hogan guy.

I really think Cena is going to win the belt back at the Royal Rumble so even if they're building to Edge vs. Flair for Wrestlemania, I don't think it will be for the title. Even if it is, I don't see Flair winning. There's really no need to give Flair the belt before he retires. He's a legend and everyone knows it. Give him a win over Triple H a Wrestlemania and then make him a manager.

He's got that hand-waving deal. He can become INVISIBLE! This means MONEY, Dawg! - AWARulz on Cena.

Was going to go to this but fell asleep after work. Didn't feel that bad since I have good SNME seats tomorrow. I would have been really annoyed when ICP showed up so it's probably better I didn't go, I would have just bitched about that half the time.
