I remember getting this for Christmas many moons ago when it came out for the SNES and freaking out cause my mom paid close to $100 for a video game. The guy at Toys-R-Us told her it was 'the most popular game on the market' and that '...EVERYONE wants it!' and she BELIEVED him!
Looking at what they've done to it, it most certainly is an improvement. The graphics are clearer and brighter then I remember, there seems to be a lot of new dialogue added in that I don't remember, and I seem to be going through a ton of more random fights to level up because the boss monsters are a lot tougher then I remember.
Has anyone else gotten this yet?
If not, and you love the FF series, please do, it's well worth it.
It also looks like Nintendo is doing the same thing with FF's V and VI, updating the graphics and adding new story elements for release on the Game Boy Advance.
If they keep this up, why would I want to waste money on the DS?

It wouldn't be a waste of money at all, simply because the DS allows you to play GBA games. It's backwards compatible. So not only can you do the Mario Kart DS online, you can ALSO play your FF IV.
Sadly, it can only play DS and GBA games. You can not play orignal GB or GBC games.
As for FF IV, I have it for the PSone, and was very impressed by it.

The DS uses the cartridges? I thought it only used the little discs?
I may have to take a look at it again, but I rather like my GBA:SP cause it fits in my pocket and I can take it everywhere. The DS is like twice as bige and longer and might be mistaken for my penis.
The GBA version of FF4, though very good, is actually quite buggy. The active turn system got a little screwy with bugs, with certain characters sometimes getting to attack 5 or 6 times before another character (who should have been next according to the meters) will only get to attack once. Sometimes, a guy will get a turn even when his meter isn't full, I've heard. Supposedly by adjusting the game speed, that will tweak it just a little bit, but only inasmuch as giving the enemies more turns. It still won't help your characters get through it.
I haven't played far enough to see how badly it hurts the game, or even if it's that major of a distraction at all, or just a minor annoyance.
Anyone who's played the other versions of FF4 (SNES and PSX) have any insight?

Funny you mention that. just this morning I noticed that Edge was getting a turn faster then other characters. I figured it was because he was a 'Ninja' and all that.
The only other bug that has annoyed me is that whenever is doing a jump attack and not on screen when the battle is over, he doesn't get any experience and if I use a heal spell on the entire party while he's not onscreen, he doesn't get healed either; which is somewhat annoying.
On the plus side, this helped me get Odin and Bauhmat(SP?) kinda cheaply by timing it so that he was off screen when the party was supposed to be whiped out. It worked really well, but right now, while most of my party is up at level 60ish, he's down at level 51.
I'm gonna shut up now cause I sound like a complete RPG dork and I hate 'those' people.
Kei, it's hard to say if you're out of turn when it comes to bosses/monsters, in large part due to you don't know when the bosses/monsters are supposed to fight. Now THERE'S an idea. Adding in a bar for the boss or other monsters to see when their time is to attack). I'd still keep on playing if I were you though, FF IV is a good game with a GREAT story.
Cerebus, that isn't a bug. Kain doesn't gain health nor experince while he is off-screen on the PSone either. Makes sense, as it provides a drawback for the Jump command (which if their was no drawback would be exceedingly powerful).
If they're releasing all of these wonderful Squaresoft games, I hpe that Chrono Trigger gets released on the GBA.
