You wanted the best, you got... Out of Context Quote of the Week.
"Because personally if I was being choked by Ric Flair, my personal reaction would be well, "Glrrrrkkk, can't breathe" but after that... "Man, I'm being choked out by Ric Flair, this is so cool." and then some more "Gllllrrrrk, can't breathe."" (Llakor)
Gee, where have we seen this before. Mets send minor-leaguers, including a top pitching prospect, to the Marlins to fill a hole.
This time it's 19-year-old Gaby Hernandez and the world-renowned Player to be Named Later for Paul Lo Duca (sports.espn.go.com). Guess they figured Ramon Hernandez y Bengie Molina weren't worth it. Can't find the Mets top 20 list on John Sickels's site, but I think he had Hernandez way up there.
According to Baseball America (not sure how accurate that is) Yusmeiro Petit was the Mets #1 pitching prospect (and second overall) and Gabby Hernandez was the #2 pitcher (third overall). I just don't understand this at all, with the Mets pitching staff being so old they could've used both of these guys. The only thing I can figure out is that maybe a catcher already under contract is cheaper than signing someone to a big contract, then saving the money could land a trade for someone like Zito (although who do we have to give them now). Minaya seems unwilling to trade Lastings Milledge which is good, but somebody tell him one good prospect doesn't make a good farm system because I have a feeling he's going to be the only good prospect left.
Hopefully, the Marlins can spin some of these pitchers they're getting off into other trades for some position players.
I do like this trade- I was a fan of Lo Duca, but he has his flaws. Littler power, 1st half player, and 34 years old.
I just hope we don't go with Matt Treanor at catcher. Although I'd rather go with him than another cheap veteran that the front office might try to pick up to appease some hometown fans: Charles Johnson. Ick.
According to an ESPN1000 radio report, the Chicago Cubs have acquired center fielder Juan Pierre from the Marlins for pitchers Sergio Mitre, Ricky Nolasco and Renyel Pinto.
Not exactly unexpected at all, since this has been bubbling for weeks, but got delayed by the Marlins holding out for better offers.
"He's too much of gentleman to assume that the lady he is with would have a disease and he's man enough to raise any offspring that should arise. HE IS AL WILSON."[-DEAN~, 7/22/05]
You know I kind of like this new Bullpen idea. Maybe its just the stats guy in me speaking but you do know that every other team in baseball is watching and waiting to see if this idea works. As for the owners.
