Dave Schreer is reporting that World Wrestling Entertaiment has registered the trademark "World Wrestling Federation".

At this point in time, WWE is prohibited from using the WWF name due to the lawsuit that they lost with the World Wildlife Fund a few years ago. Whether they are covering their bases or plan to make an offer to the Fund which will allow them to use the name again isn't known at this time.

What a happy day this would be should it come to fruition. No more blurred logos on old footage ... no more "the WWE" ...

"World Wrestling Federation" and "WWF" are two different things. They've continued to use "World Wrestling Federation" in DVDs all this time. I'd bet this is just something they have to do for legal reasons. As much as I'd love to see WWE get their old name back, I don't think we should read much of anything into this.

I'll believe that it'll make any kind of difference whatsoever when I see it. But even if they are able to register the name "World Wrestling Federation", the controversy wasn't over the name, it was over the initials and the logo. In all the old footage, references to the "World Wrestling Federation" aren't censored, but references to the "WWF" are-- and the WWF scratch logo is also censored. (Why the old-school WWF "block" logo isn't likewise censored, I don't know).

It may be a sign that we may see WWE regain the right to use the "WWF" initials (or at least, be able to release the archived footage uncensored-- which'll suck for everyone who's already bought the WrestleMania anthology)-- but the fact remains that they did sign the agreement with the World Wildlife Fund, and that decision has already been upheld in court.

Because the agreement in question was that Vince was allowed to use the block logo but had to specifically get permission to change the logo to something else, and when he did exactly that with the scratch logo, he violated the agreement.

Did Scherer take a course in how to write misleading headlines or something? What part of this would lead him to believe that by trademarking a phrase that they own and use regularly on DVD releases they would be likely to regain use of the "WWF" trademark?

Hey guys, I was reading through the list here and realized. I hardly know a damn thing about any of you. I was hoping I could learn more about the guys that I spend so much time reading messages from.
