Ric and his old wife (Beth) or his new wife (one of the girls from the Unforgiven skits)? Perhaps I answered my own question.

The divorce thing is a few months old at least. The rest of my $0.02 reposted from elsewhere cause I'm leaving here in 5 minutes:

If I'm reading between the lines correctly, it wasn't as if his estranged wife came forward with this. It sounds more like someone went poking around the courthouse looking at their separation paperwork, which is public record.

They apparantly separated a few months back, and the details of it sound like it was one of those bad domestic situations that third parties probably shouldn't be commentating on.

Plus, since this isn't new news given when the separation took place, to bring it up now when it hadn't been mentioned up to this point just feels like piling on. I'm not saying this isn't a shitty act on everyone that's involved's part, but it's also none of anyone else's business.

I agree on the reporting - I just was enjoying being The W's on-site reporter on the Ric Flair news coverage.

Back in the Derby city. No more leads with Ric on the news.

We'll be back right after order has been restored here in the Omni Center.

Meh. If it was someone people around here didn't like, it'd be a feeding frenzy. But if Ric Flair does it it's "none of our business", on account of he's not a hoss. It's really none of our business that Lita cheated on whatshisface, or for that matter that Katie Holmes is knocked up even though she vowed not to do it before marriage in high school, but people talk(ed) about that.

So I'll just say that over the past couple years I've learned more and more about Ric Flair and lost a lot of respect for him. I mean, at least his previous transgressions, while showing a lack of character, were humourous in how pathetic they were. The comments in his book about Foley, Bret, Hogan, and Bruno, his subsequent running away from Bruno instead of manning up and standing by what he said, his subsequent punch of Foley which Foley didn't even feel, attacking Eric Bischoff from behind during a RAW show backstage, his embarrassing pimping of Triple H just to name a few. But then it got worse.

During Roddy Piper's induction speech at last year's Hall of Fame ceremony, Flair paid special homage to Roddy Piper's ability to "put anyone to bed". It was then I realized that the man was an emotional dwarf, who admires things most of us (hopefully), outgrow sometime in college, if not before. The glorification of copious alcohol consumption is not a thing to be admired, especially considering the dangers it entails. This should come as no surprise then, and yet it does.

I hope it's not true, but it seems most people go to great lengths to make excuses for those they admire. The defense is no more credible than the attack, and is certainly no more justified; the whole strength of the apologists platform for defending such people is that you don't have all the details, and you're not God. Well, guilty as charged. You know, juries convict people without all the information. I've got enough to form an opinion, sure as people lined up around the block to say what turds Edge and Lita were for something that at the very least wasn't a crime.

Shucks y'all, d'ya figure maybe this information about Flair was revealed, not due to a liberal media bias against Slick Ric, but because it has bearing on the current charges against him? I mean, it's not exactly like when the press mentions child molestation charges that were brought (unsuccessfully) against Michael Jackson in a story about him buying a parakeet, where the charges are raised with no logical connection to the story at hand. Considering the acquittal, there's something third parties shouldn't be talking about. This Flair stuff was mentioned for a good reason. It is entirely relevant to the current story, as it does show a pattern of violence; the charge against him is assault, after all. I don't expect Flair to be demonized by his longtime fans, but can we at least take the blinders off and see the logic behind why this stuff is coming out now?

Now granted I still don't "have all the information", but anything short of an admission of the crime itself in Flair's handwriting via haiku won't satisfy those who want to continue to admire him.

HMD, the bottom line is that I don't care if we're talking about Ric Flair, Gene Snitsky, Tom Cruise or my next-door neighbor the electrical engineer: the process of divorce/separation is to me a matter that belongs as a matter that should only involve those who are directly involved. People in that instance do not act in a manner that they should the majority of the time, and that doesnt' mean I'm defending or condoning a thing that I've read, I'm just saying that divorce is one of the most personal of human relations and should be treated accordingly, whether the entire genre of tabloid journalism sees it my way or not.

And that's the bottom line ...

So I'll just say that over the past couple years I've learned more and more about Ric Flair and lost a lot of respect for him.

Unfortunately, it's hard not to, and the fact that people celebrated those things in Ric's books about partying and women as if they were something to be admired has always been a major eye-roller. Startlingly naked personal insight, without question, but an embarrassing and sad one.

At the same time, it's also unfortunately likely that if a microscope was put on many other people in wrestling, the same thing would happen. Essentially, I go with the idea that "people whose hobby comprises an entire neighborhood of glass houses should not throw stones."

To be fair, those are two different things. A divorce situation with Flair and his wife isn't the same thing as adultery. There are people in this world (myself included) who believe that really there isn't an excuse for cheating on your wife with your best friend's girlfriend. There's no need for "sides". Any problem within their ranks should have been solved any other way. With Flair, what do we know about their domestic situation? Do we know he beat her? Do we know why they didn't work out? There's no reason to jump all over someone right there. I'm not saying he's in the clear, I'm just saying it's less obvious what an ass he is than someone who cheats on their wife with their best friend's girlfriend. It has nothing to do with the fact that we prefer Flair as a worker to Edge. At least not to me.

Adultery may not be a CRIME crime, but it does have it's legal ramifications. In legal terms, doesn't that have bearing on the outcome of divorce settlements? I'm pretty sure its a punishable offense.

And also, I know I'm gonna be ripped apart for this, but why is everyone denouncing Flair for his old "partying" ways? As far as we know, he has a family and kids of his own that he raised (and seem to be doing well). Rockstars and all sorts of famous people have their parties and their women, even into their middle aged years. He was young, he lived it up, he got married, had a family, and enjoyed the business he loved for 30+ years now. I don't denounce him for that. Why would he put it in a negative spin in his book? It was a good time, and it's not like we hear him going off on what a stud he is all the time (bseides when he's in his character, of course). He partied and got laid? Good for him.

Well, now we know why Ric keeps wrestling.

http://www.charlotte.com/mld/charlotte/entertainment/gossip/13307913.htm

Pro wrestler Ric Flair has been pinned by the IRS over back taxes and is fighting a nasty divorce battle with his wife.

Flair, one of Charlotte's best-known celebrities, owed the federal government $1 million in 1997, according to a statement from his accountant. The IRS began garnishing Flair's wrestling salary this year, seizing more than $200,000 so far.

Flair and his wife Elizabeth separated in February after 22 years of marriage. In a divorce filing, she accuses Flair of "cruel behavior" and says he slapped, kicked, choked, threw, bit and spit on her and pulled her hair.

Her complaint, which was filed in May, also accuses Flair of abusing alcohol and steroids, causing him to become "enraged, paranoid, emotionally unbalanced and violent," and says he exposed himself to her friends and committed adultery.

If we go by Flair's book, this would be what, at least the 3rd time he's been in serious debt to the IRS for back taxes dating back to the 80's? After the first time, you'd think he'd realize eventually those wonderful, hardworking people at the Internal Revenue Service would catch up with him.
Considering the divorce will sap him financially and the IRS will due their due diligence, if Flair ever has a falling out with the McMahon's, it might end in a very ugly manner.
And, at some point or another, hasn't Flair exposed himself to everyone through the years?

Ric Flair pulls in $500,000 a year?
Sheesh.
I hope most of that is from DVD sales, because that's a little high to be paying a guy who's not exactly the future of the company.

This is turning really sad.

Who knew 30+ years of heavy partying, drinking and juicing in a business that drives even normal people crazy would turn Ric nuts?
