King of the Ring this year belongs to either Brock or RVD.. Eddie is a bit more established as a total than most people they put through there, and I don't see them wanting to push him past the IC belt.. whereas Brock is simply a monster getting a monster push, and RVD is the only other option for 'the next big thing' other than Lesnar in the WWF right now ;)

I know this will probably come across as crazy talk, but why don't we wait until they announce the entrants?

That would be like me asking for predictions on the 2003 Royal Rumble winner.

Actually, I'll predict the 2003 Royal Rumble winner to be...Steve Austin. Hey, I've got probably a 25% chance at least of being right on that guess, and I can be the very first on my block to call it
Seriously, I would guess RVD or Lesnar, with an outside chance of maybe Bradshaw or Albert since they both seem to be getting some solid push lately. Other outside guess would be Booker T if he turns face sometime between now and KOTR.

Austin's gonna throw another shitfit about a month beforehand, and he'll end up being the King of the Ring winner.

Yep. It'll suck, too.

I am hoping for Booker, but it'll probably be someone like Lesnar or Bradshaw. I don't think RVD will get that kotr push. He's already over, and I think the wwF is finally realizing that

I got a better question? Who cares. When was the last time the King of the Ring tournament was remotely good or had a meaningful winner? The only word that comes to mind is never.

There are two ways of looking at the King of the Ring. The first is if they take it like a serious tournament between two different crews. Both sides having an eventual winner (I don't care how they do the build up), but the main event of the PPV is the finals and the winner is treated like something important. For the most part the winner of the tournament will get some kind of push after the KotR, but this year it has to be emphasized more.

The other option is they turn it into a second rate tournament, which happens once every 3 years. Will it happen this year; I hope not because of any year having a PPV of this format it could really mean something special. The problem is, every week I grow more pessimistic about how the people writing WWF programming come up with stuff. I will hope for the best, but will be expecting the worst.

Try 1996. Some guy named Stone Cold Steve Austin won. In his "coronation speech," he used the following phrase for the first time: "Austin 3:16 says I just whipped your ass."

Hell with picking the winner. I'm gonna pick the final matchup.

Raw finalist: Brock Lesner. Assuming he doesn't screw up majorly between now and KOTR, he's the most likely candidate for winning the tournement.

Smackdown finalist: Edge. Edge will be looking to defend his crown from last year.

Winner: Brock Lesner.

This leaves Brock continuing his monster push, while Edge finds himself on the outs with Mr. McMahon for losing the KOTR tournement for the Smackdown delegation.

If the KoTR Tournament should mean something, it needs a payoff. Didn't the winner used to get a title shot at a PPV or something? They should do something like that to raise the value of the title.

I think its patently obvious that the WWF doesn't book anything with continutity or a payoff of any kind. They casually book with an eye on who is/isn't over over the past few weeks and that's it. From now on, I will be predicting PPVs via roll of the dice.

This is a fed where Hogan doesn't have one pinfall then gets booked into a unified title match and -wins- it. That to me destroyed any shred of credibility that belt had. This is a fed where HHH comes back from injury, wins the belt, then gets jobbed out one month later. Just a roll of the dice, that's all it is.

Presuming that this year's format is the 8-man at the PPV thing...

RAW bracket: RVD vs. Booker T, Bradshaw vs. Lesnar
Smackdown bracket: Edge vs. D-Von, Mark Henry vs. Test

Semis:
Lesnar either gets a bye thanks to a time limit draw, or he wins over an exhausted RVD, who is "taken to the limit" (tm Jim Ross) by the Book.

Edge over Test

Finals: Lesner over Edge

That's easy. Steve Austin will win the 2003 Royal Rumble.

I don't think this Undisputed Championship has ever had credibilty since Chris Jericho (gasps) cheated to win the damn thing! Come on man, Hogan was booked as a guy with little, or no, chance to win the match and if you watched it you will notice he got his ass handed to him until some timely interference by The Undertaker. Taker is the only reason he has that belt, it's not like he came out, with "no crediblitly" and beat the hell out of Triple H, put his foot on him, flexed, and got a 1-2-3. He got his ass kicked and got lucky. Plus, it's Hulk freakin' Hogan. I mean, sure, he has no workrate, he looks awful in the ring 98.34556668% (I measured) of the time, but it's not like the masses are turning off their TV sets (like they did when Angle was champ (sighs)). In fact, if you really want to think about it, I think Hulk Hogan has more credibility as champ than 95% of their roster. Do I like Hogan? Sadly yes (I say sadly, because if you asked me why...I'd have no answer) Do I think he is the best possible champion? Hell no, but I have no problem with it either. I'll argue until the day I die that his 1 week title reign has ALREADY been more entertaining than Triple H's reign and he IS defending in on Smackdown, which will give him the same amount of defenses that Triple H had on TV before Backlash.

pauses

Oh...this is about King of the Ring?

Okay, Rob Van Dam wins. Austin beats Hogan for the title, I sit in the lower bowl of Nationwide Arena and have one hell of a great time. That's my KotR prediction...oh and Holly will get screwed during qualifying (it's a staple!).

In a perfect world Hogan would retire with the title, it'd be vacant, and King of the Ring would be for the damn thing, but hell, Triple H would win it anyway and I damn sure don't want to see that.

I am a very big RVD mark, so obviously, RVD over Eddie Guerrero in the final.

Notables:

Brock Lesnar will be taken out a lot earlier than most would expect, by some shenanigans involving the Hardy Boyz(www.lethalwrestling.com/fcwhb). He's getting a big push, but he hasn't been around long enough.

Mark Henry will most likely go further than Lance Storm, and that's a damn shame.

Rikishi will probably end up in the finals as will Albert, because they're both HOSSES, I tell ya...

I have a feeling Edge will make it to the finals, as well, and probably lose to some lug, like Big Slow.

I think Booker T will also make it to the finals, and will probably turn full face by when all is said and done.

yeah, I know, a lot of real good wrestlers won't make the finals, but big surprise there.

Quoth BobHolly "but it's not like the masses are turning off their TV sets (like they did when Angle was champ (sighs)"
Well according to the Observer Smackdown had it's lowest non-holiday rating ever last Thursday night, and according to Dave "Unlike a few weeks ago when the show also did a 3.4, there weren't many major market pre-emptions, so realistically, this was the worst performance by Smackdown in history." While I agree that the pops for Hogan are still pretty large, I'm not sure what kind of legs this thing has with him on top.

Yeah. Hmm. Yeah, I went "hmm" on that, myself. But the interview was genuinely emotional; it doesn't surprise me that, well, he screwed up.
