According to USA Today's Friday edition, CBS has cancelled Threshold (apparently effective immediately) and ABC won't extend Alias past its 5th season.

I could never get into Alias, but after being less than impressed with Threshold's debut episode thought it got better and creepier each week. Too bad those of us who watched apparently won't get any resolution to the story.

I never got into either show but from what I've read, Alias was up against Survivor:Guatemala, which is a huge ratings winner. Besides, the whole 'pregnant globetrotting crime-fighting spy' thing was a tough sell.

People I know, who watch the show, complain about Jennifer Garner's pregnancy hindering the show. They said it didn't have the same kick ass fights and with the storylines focusing on her baby, it made for a boring show and they went to Survivor.

I'll save my Ben Affleck comments to myself... :)

I think that the same folks who watch Survivor are watching Alias. We always watched Alias live prior to this year - but Survivor trumps Alias. And all the young folks I know who watch the box watch Survivor. I think many old fogies (closer to my age) watch Joey.

Dammit! I was really into Threshold, cheesiness be damned. I thought by moving it to Tuesday CBS was willing to give it a chance outside of the Friday night death slot. Guess not.

As for Alias, every season I start off watching it religiously, and then I lose interest about midway through. I have a bunch on my DVR, and I will most likely catch up now, knowing that JJ and company have time to put together a proper sendoff.

That's exactly what killed the show for me.

Personally I hardly ever follow a show once it switches nights. Alias just never got back on my schedual after leaving Sunday nights. Same thing happened to the West Wing, and they switched to Sunday nights.

Maybe I'm just odd. Does anybody else have trouble keeping up with a show after they shift around on the schedual?

It depends where they shift it. Occasionally it works out much better (i.e. back when Simpsons moved to Sunday from Thursday), but it can also create havoc on a show's ratings if the move isn't properly promoted. For example, Arrested Development's move to Monday basically killed the show, since they didn't even have the security blanket of the Simpsons lead-in audience.

Alias lasted five years, which is a good solid run. The actual quality of the show dropped a few years ago, possibly due to JJ Abrams getting involved in Lost. It seems as if JJ might have a touch of David E. Kelley-itis; he only devotes his full attention to a show for a couple of seasons before moving onto something else.

Alias got killed by too many restarts and changes in direction. It became inconsistent. It jumped the shark in season 2 with the fall of SD6.

Alias just got worse with each season while 24 just gets better with each one.

The last two seasons of 24 never even came close to the heady heights of the ~GEORGE MASON~ lovefest that is season two.

Wow. Ben Affleck killed Alias.

I never got into Alias either, but I'm surprised it's being cancelled. That was ABC's "big thing" not THAT long ago.

Season 2 is definitely the peak of 24, but even a sub-par season of 24 is some of the best TV the moment, especially network TV. The writing has remained strong and they still manage to introduce great secondary characters and villains every season (except for Jack's love interests). You won't have to worry about Jack getting pregnant, unless the terrorists begin to use the creatures from Alien.

I've always blamed "Alias" for the cancellation of "Dark Angel", so hearing that Garner got the axe made me smile

Also to note, CNN says FOX has canned "Reunion" and ABC has also canned "Hot Properties". Which sucks cause I always like seeing Nicole Sullivan cause she is so good looking and this is the show she left "King Of Queens" for.

But also, E! has picked up "The Simple Life" and will make changes to it so Hilton and Richie don't have to be around each other. I would of thought VH1 would pick it up.

And FOX has reached a deal with Simon Cowell to keep him around on "American Idol" for another 5 years.

I wouldn't really say Garner got the axe, she was going to be leaving the show anyway. I've actually liked this season better than the last two seasons. Yes, Sydney is pregnant and can't do as much fighting, but that's why they brought in two new cast members. So far i've liked the story with Rachel, being in the same position that Sydney was back in Season 1, with Sydney now as her support like Vaughn was for Sydney. Plus, I like the addition of Amy Acker too. Season 5 hasn't been as good as Seasons 1 and 2, but better than season 3 and 4. I'm not surprised it got cancelled and I'm not that disappointed because like I said, Garner was leaving anyway and you can't have Alias without Sydney.

Actually ABC repeatedly said they had Garner until the end of season 7, so I'm inclined to think Garner indeed got served some walking papers. Now, can Affleck start killling Reality TV for me?

Doesn't FOX do this every year? Put out some new shows, pull them for baseball and then never bring them back?

God I hate FOX.

Blame Chyler "Kiss of death" Leigh. Since "Not Another Teen Movie" (2001), she's stared in four series that didn't last more than a year.

"That 80s Show" (2002) -- 13 episodes and done.
"Girls Club" (2002) -- 13 and done again.
"The Practice" (2003) -- Canceled in 2004.
"Reunion" (2005) -- 10 episodes filmed with one to air 8 DEC 2005 and one after that, according to imdb.com

She also had a guest role on "North Shore" (2004) which lasted one season.

"7th Heaven" and "Kitchen Confidential" are done after they finish airing the remaining episodes.

Unless they have filmed WAY ahead, or the WB is going to put the show on a major hiatus, according to that article, 7th Heaven won't be done until May. Plus, I can't see the WB ushering out a show like that so unceremoniously that they wouldn't let it finish out the season with a proper farewell.

As for Kitchen Confidential, we've discussed its fate before (The W).

Well Carla has 2 shows she's been on cancelled. But she can't touch Chyler. And I think was on another show before those that you listed that got yanked too.

And I liked "That 80's Show"

This was pretty strange. Throughout the entire run of this show, they have hardly ever dealt with any of the characters in a intimate way, be it relationships, homelife, personal problems, etc. They have always simply focused on them doing their jobs.
