NBC Universal announced yesterday that TRIO would be taken off digital cable Jan. 1, with some of their signature shows moving to a "Trio Broadband" online-only channel launching that same day as part of the bravotv.com brand.

I'd say I'll miss it... but the truth is I watched that channel MAYBE once a month, since it seemed like they were always rotating the same half a dozen shows in and out of the lineup day to day. Assuming the "Late Night with David Letterman" reruns can find another home, I don't think I'll even notice it's gone. But...that's probably MY loss.

I saw this - bummer. TRIO was a great channel to stop at when surfing - the "Brilliant But Cancelled" shows are a hoot.. "So Great that NO ONE WATCHED IT!!" ha ha ha. I must have missed their showing of "The Insiders"

Live concerts were always good...but I'd agree on the repetitive part - speaking of repetitive:

Thursday - Saturday evening is a Letterman marathon! (now's the time to set the vcr)

after that - a marathon of The Moth! (that has to interest SOMEONE)

Demonstrations are a drag. Besides, we're much too high

DirecTV dropped Trio awhile back. Maybe even last year. But I only watched it for Laugh-In reruns.

You wanted the best, you got... Out of Context Quote of the Week.

Oof. I'd always wanted to get Trio for "Brilliant But Cancelled". Maybe the dumping explains why our cable company never picked it up.

My love of Trio stemmed from the week they re-ran several editions of Battle Of The Network Stars.

Couldn't they run the old Letterman shows on Bravo, since that's an NBC-owned entity?

I'll second the loss of Laugh-In reruns. When DirecTV dropped it, that was the one thing I missed.

Course, they always showed it at 9am, which setup a TiVo conflict with my daughter's Rolie Polie Olie airing . . . of course my daughter won.

Were they even still showing the Laugh-In reruns? I haven't seen those on in awhile.

I'll agree it was repetitive, but they had some fascinating stuff on there, especially in the way of documentaries. The "Secret Rulers of the World" series springs to mind, as well as one they did on the failed Shockwave.com series "Princess" that was done by Trey Parker and Matt Stone. One night I even caught a program on the station (that originally aired on the BBC) where a live autopsy was performed by anatomical artist Gunther Von Hagens live in front of a studio audience. Sure, I covered my eyes while occassionally peeping through my fingers like a six-year-old, and had to change the channel, but that's provocative stuff.

The "Brilliant But Cancelled" theme they would do once in awhile was alright as well. Especially when they'd show episodes of Johnny Stacatto, which was a simply awesome show.

Ah well. As long as we still have Current to show us those fabulous videos of that kid learning to backflip on a dirtbike!

Live long and
be fabulous.
