About Randy Orton not wearing an Eddy shirt.

So freaking WHAT? Does he have to mourn out loud? Does he have to do what everyone else does to prove that he feels the loss of Eddy?

Some people don't mourn publicly, and that is their own business. And Eddy might not want public mourning as the Bible says to pray in your room with your door closed.

I'm not sure what someone's Christianity (or lack thereof) has to do with whether or not they break down & cry over someone's death.

When that music video came to the screen my eyes were watering and my throat was dry. Then they showed the picture of Eddy and his wife, where he had his eyes crossed and his tongue sticking out. I burst out laughing and realized how lucky I was to have been able to have watched him. Great job to the WWE.

Of course, I had the same feelings as everyone here watching the tribute video, and Big Show and Benoit really tore at me at the beginning of the show, and Benoit and Batista again later on with their moments. I told a couple people about Eddie during the day but had to stop because the most caring answer I got was someone cutting me off (during the first statement that he had died) to say "You know it's all fake, right?" It was nice to see the crowd at the beginning of the show and know that while people who didn't know Eddie were saying things like "He's a wrestler? Musta been steroids" (I overheard that from a couple guys reading the article the Winnipeg Sun printed on Eddie) that anyone who did know him even from just seeing him on tv, knew that they were going to be missing out on someone special for a very long time.

I also want to say that Maria made my night last night with her in-ring acting. She actually had me laughing out loud, when only minutes before and after I was watering up/crying. I'm sure it wasn't intentional on her part, but the kind of comedy she was doing is exactly the best thing she could have done to honor Eddie.

I hope so too, but I've got a sad feeling it won't be the last. Even during the moving 10 bell salute, I couldn't help wondering who among them would be next. Who would get their tribute way before their time?

Sad as this is, the Owen thing just it me harder.
I think it was the circumstances. He dropped to his death in front of a live audience of thousands wearing a silly Blue Blazer costume. The man deserved so much better.
I was really troubled that they continued the PPV. Imagine having to perform just minutes after that. It took me DAYS to get over that.

Nice tribute to Eddie on Raw. WWE can be classy when they want to.

Also, Orton WAS wearing an "EG" armband.

I know this doesn't mean much in the grand scheme of things, but RAW did a 4.5.

I was really moved by JBL's comments. I've always liked him and didn't realize that him and Eddie were close. You could see that he really appreciated him for his help in his personal life and professional life.

I read Eric S's column in InsidePulse.com and he came up with a great idea of once a year, having a "Super Show" for Raw and Smackdown to honour Eddie. It was nice seeing WRESTLING and I read somewhere that Rey and Shawn requested to wrestle each other (I also read that Kurt and Shelton requested their match too). Perhaps by doing that once a year thing, under better circumstances and not having 'storylines' interfere, we get to see 'matches' that we wouldn't see normally, but I feel that the wrestlers will have more fun with it too as the years go on....

By the way, Storm's gimmick includes 1.) telling the audience to shut up, and 2.) occasionally making everyone stand for the Canadian national anthem. You know they don't know what to do with a wrestler when he's making fans stand for a national anthem. It's like waving a white flag and saying, "This guy has no personality -- we give up."

Having heard nothing of Eddie's passing prior to watching raw, I sat down, turned TSN on, and it hit me like a tonne of bricks. I was shocked, and then saddened.

Benoit's tribute got me as well.

One question though, who was the guy in the blue mask amongst the superstars on the stage? Could it have been Edge?

That was just how the HBK things go. If he did cry they'll be people saying he cried too much and tried to overshadow everyone else.

And today I had an amazing conversation with a guy. We were talking about wrestling and I brought up Eddy and guess what he said:

"He'll be back in a few months. They do it with Undertaker all the time."

And I had to explained to him that it wasn't an angle or a work and he was really dead. And gave him all the details of what happened he said:

"Seriously!? Aww man that sucks" and almost teared up right there.

Is there a such thing as being overly markish? Cause this guy was it.

And my dad liked Eddy even though he wasn't that big of a wrestling fan. He remembered him because of Starrcade '95. Me and him went and Eddy had a match versus Shinjiro Otani. And Eddy got kicked and back of the head by Otani and you could here all thought the arena. Eddy was laid and if I remember correctly that was the end of the match. And from then on he was "That guy guy got kicked in the head by that Japanese guy". And everytime I talked about wrestling he asked about how he was doing.

And Sunday when I told him about Eddy's passing he said:

"Damn, I always liked him"

See that's the problem with wrestling. The line is so blurred.
On Undertaker's most recent "death" I was actually fooled.
The WWE Website had "Undertaker: 1962-2005 A look back at his career" It may have been 1991-2005 (his WWE career) but on first glance I thought another wrestler had passed.
That's the trouble with Jerry Lawler using his "serious voice" on worked angles. It's like the boy who cried wolf.

Actually both of your ears were playing tricks. I believe the quote was something like "Eddie was the only Luchadore to win the World Title".

I don't think I've ever payed that close attention to an episode of Raw. The whole thing was just surreal, & it was an amazing & fitting tribute to an incredible performer.

      RIP Eddie.

Sure it wasn't "first Mexican wrestler to win the World Title"? If so, that would be accurate since Pedro Morales is Puerto Rican...

No...Von Maestro was correct. I watched Raw again and Joey does say Luchadore.

By the way, watching a second time does not make it easier.

I remember having to explain to people that Owen Hart had actually fallen from the rafters and actually died.

I guess I can understand people believing that a death was fake if they only heard about it on wrestling (Big Show's dead daddy and Al Wilson setting dangerous precedents), but if you hear about a dead wrestler on the actual news, you'd have to assume it was for real.

Of course, I have friends who swore that they were listening to the news and heard that Ultimate Warrior died (one friend of mine still refuses to believe me when I say it's been the same guy all along), so who knows.

I thought it showed that he (and maybe he alone) was comfortable with death and what comes next. I am not religious at all, but it shows that that opiate of the masses that Marx referred to, does soothe people.

I remember a Weekly World News headline back in 89 or so about some woman suing Ultimate Warrior for giving her husband AIDS. Stuff like that helped create some wild rumors about the guy. I've heard he was replaced from about a dozen people (mostly non-fans) over the years...

And the one I've heard a bunch is that UT and Kane are the same person. Despite fighting each other multiple times. And when I brought up that they have fought I was told that Kane was played by.........Kevin Nash despite him working for a rival company and then working for the same company. And it didn't stop until Kane lost the mask, then it was that Nash was tired of wrestling under the mask so they picked a new guy to play Kane.

And oddly enough none of them remembered Issac Yankem.

I also knew nothing about all this until I sat down to watch the show. At first, I thought it was just a really sick joke or something, but then it sank in and it sucks.

He lived in the Tampa Bay area for a while and I remember the first time I met him was at University Square Mall. He was there with his family eating and I noticed who he was and this was about a month after he and Benoit and the others had jumped over from WCW the the WWF. I said that I was sorry for bothering him while he was out with his family, but I just wanted to say that I was a fan and that I enjoyed watching his matches. You know... semi-markish crap, basically, thanking him for entertaining me and what not. He said thanks for watching and going to shows and then he points to his kids and said "...thanks for keeping food on their plates. Hey, you want an autograph?" I accepted and he wrote his name down on a napkin from Chick-Fa-La.

I still have it.

It was really cool of him to take his time with me when he just as easily could have told me to go fuck off or something.

Anyways, the show progressed giving me a horrible, yet welcome headache, allowing my finding out about his death to sink in and by the time Benoit's segue came on, I was too numb to cry.

Interesting note (for ME at least.) was that my two favorite feuds of his were from WCW and they were both featuring Ric Flair and Steven Regal. It was a very sweet thing seeing the two of them going at it on a tribute to the man.

I was also teary eyed hearing Shawn Michaels say that he'd never wrestled Eddie. That was pretty sad as well.

Well just fwiw, Shawn was shedding tears at the beginning of the show when the wrestlers were gathered. Just not during his tribute speech.

As well put together as the show was, I almost wish I hadn't watched it. I guess people can figure out why.

I cried... The 10-bell salute killed me. Watching Show, Benoit, Angle... all those guys hurting. It took me back to Owen. It took me back to when I lost one of my closest friends suddenly in an accident. I may have never met the man, and I only knew Eddie through his performances. But to see how much he meant to each of his peers... it just killed me. This show stays on the DVR, along with Samckdown on Friday.

Godspeed, Eddie... we all miss you, but we will see you again.

Everyone needs to remember that when all the wrestlers were gathered on the entry way stage, it was just a few hours after Eddie was found dead.

The tribute speeches were probably shot in the earlier part of Monday at a TV studio. They probably had a few hours to compress all the info and start to accept it.

Some of the wrestlers probably started crying when the fans were chanting "Thank You Eddie" or during the video. I know it choked me up.
