If someone had to die, I'm glad that's who it was.

I want a Mr. Echo backstory episode ASAP.

Spoilers ahoy, but it's in the thread title, so you have been warned.

Sayid's look at the end = Murderous murderous rage. He is going to wreck some shit.

Ana-Lucia/Mr. Echo = Jack/Locke. Discuss.

I'm sorry to see Shannon go, just as the charcter was getting a bit of depth, and she definitely brings the pretty.

So, Vincent is told to find Walt, and we go to... Boone's grave. Interesting.

For a split second, I could've sworn that he had a look to him that indicated he recognized her. Probably just me though.

Was there any real point to the Shannon flashbacks other than to a) give her one before she died, and b) to establish that yes, that was Shannon's father in the ER with Jack in the season premiere. Shannon seemed so manipulative and greedy in Boone's flashback, her flashbacks tonight didn't seem quite right.

How old was Shannon? I thought she was 20, but that would make her flashback (and therefore Jack's earlier flashback) happen two years ago since she told Boone she was 18, right? Or was she older. Because I thought Jack's flashback happened alot longer than 2 years ago.

She really should have listened to Walt telling her to be quiet. I had a feeling that it would end how it ended when she and Sayid started hearing the voices. At least Sawyer has survived (for now).

The tension between Claire and Charlie is getting interesting. Watching Charlie trying to claim the baby, I rememeber the warnings from the psychic that Claire had to raise the baby. I wonder if Charlie isn't going to make a play for the baby at some point. (The Locke-as-agent-of-the-island theorist in me thinks that maybe this is why Locke was trying to get Charlie off the heroin and onto his side way back when).

Sayid looks like he's going to kill everyone. Hopefully the soldier in him will take over so he can keep his cool and recognize Jin and Michael with the group. Still, as interesting as it seemed it was going to be to watch Ana Lucia try to ingratiate into the group, its now going to be 10x as interesting because of what she did.

Next week looks AWESOME!

Is it really two hours next week? I heard them say "special extended" edition, but I didn't hear them say two hours. Could it be just one of those slightly extended editions?

If someone was going to go, I think Shannon was the most expendable. She wasn't really very likable and I do enjoy Sawyer (in a manly way, of course). As soon as Shannon and Sayid started hearing the whispering, I sensed Shannon was a goner.

Another good episode, though I don't cotton to three weeks between episodes!

I avoided spoilers like the plague and I'm happy I did. But I did think that Shannon was a goner though. And they have enough eye candy anyway.

And we didn't see any of Jack or Kate did we? Has there been a episode where they didn't,at least, make a cameo?

Jack rushed by Shannon and her mom in the ER. No Kate, though. I think this makes up for the overuse of Jack and Kate in the hatch when Sayid and Shannon were seen for all of like 30 seconds.

I wondered just how much Sayid could pledge himself to Shannon when his prior motivations have so clearly focused on Nadia. But she's not the person I would have put money on for getting killed.

The show has given us two seperated couples -- Sun and Jin and Bernard and Rose. One couple from the first group, one from the second. The show loves mirror opposites (black smoke and white hatch, etc), so I assume one couple will not have a happy ending. I expected one of those four to be the next to go, not Shannon.

I had read that the "actor" who was dying last night had already started on working on various movie projects. So I went to IMDB and checked - Naveen Andrews had 2 in the works for 2006, I figured he was toast.

Single gunshot and I knew that Ana Lucia had been the one to pull the trigger - can't wait to see how this effects Sayid. His look was that of sheer menace.

"Did you see the kids ?" - does this mean there were children in the back of the plane ? Why do the Others need children ? Can they not reproduce ? The legs in the jungle 3 weeks ago and the teddy bear hinted that there were children as prisoners.

It's now Charlie & the heroin vs Locke - how much more paranoid can Charlie get ?

No Kate and No Sun - I hope that doesn't happen again

Next week's tailender's story looks hot - should be good to see how "The Others" came and took the 12 passengers - though didn't Libby say they were 23 at first ? And as Odessasteps said - bring on the Mr. Echo backstory !!!

Closed captioning says: ghostly whispering and murmuring. Indeed.

And Walt - freaks me out again. I can't wait to see what the resolution to that whole situation is.

Somebody help me out. I stupidly never record this show, and it's probably the one show that needs to be recorded...

I don't know if my mind is playing tricks on me, but I swear that the second time Walt appeared last night (right before Shannon got killed), in the middle of the pouring rain, he was...dry. I think I convinced myself that I remember him standing there with a dry head of hair, the irony being that he's soaking wet every other time. Am I crazy?

I am not a gun expert by any means, but when we heard the gunshot off camera that killed Shannon, it sounded more like a rifle than a handgun. At least I think it did. But it is possible Ana-Lucia did not kill her, but one of the others did. But she may not get a chance to say that before Sayid goes Berserker on her.

So far, has anyone been in EVERY episode? Locke's been getting at least one scene to interact with whomever is the focus for the week this season, but I don't recall how much he was around early in the series. (Doesn't he first show up when he smiles with the orange in his mouth at Walt? Was the the pilot or the subsequent episode?) Jack's cameo this week at least keeps him onscreen. Hurley's had at least one line in every episode, right?

For me, and I'm sure quite a few people disagree with me on this, Lost is going downhill FAST. I'm not sure I've ever seen a show suffer such a significant dropoff in quality between its freshman and sophomore seasons.

There's just no tension anymore. They're expaining some stuff away using realism (the hatch), but still attempting mysticism (Walt) and it's becoming a big muddled mess. Yes, that was one corker of an ending last night, but if you really stop to think about it, it just tells me the writers either were unable or couldn't be bothered to come up with something for Shannon's character to do after Boone's death. "Well, we killed her brother, so there's nothing else for her to do!" Bull. Boone dying should have been a door that opened to a brand new direction for her character, but she ended up just sitting around waiting to die.

No story is advancing AT ALL. In fact, next week is just one big ol' flashback. While I'm curious about what happened between the Tailaways and The Others, I'm not banking on us finding out anything about The Others next week that we didn't already know.

I'm giving it a few more episodes, but it really feels like the honeymoon's over.

I get the feeling moreso that back when the decision was made to kill Boone, they decided to also kill Shannon at the same time. Back when Boone died, I read an interview with one of the writers where he said that after they Charlie's near-death experience earlier in the season, they needed to actually kill a character to emphasize that everyone is legitimately in danger. (Especially since some of the theories floating around implied that everyone was already dead). I think when they were trying to figure out who they could afford to get rid of, they were stuck because of all the relationship between people. Since Boone and Shannon are so intertwined, I wouldn't be surprised if they made the decision then to kill them both and drop whatever future plots might have involved those two characters together. Hence, Shannon didn't have much to do, because she was 'waiting to die'.

And given the way that this episode was hyped, I'm almost cynical enough to suggest that from now on, we can expect someone to get offed each sweeps. (Hmmm. I wonder if anyone else would dare try such a stunt during SWEEEEEEEEPS...)

OK, let's say that is the case...the writers have killed Boone and know Shannon's next. As a writer, do you:
A) Develop Shannon into an interesting character with a potent storyline so when it's her time to get offed her death means something?
B) Have Shannon putter around do essentially nothing until she's shot accidentally?

They chose B and her death is pointless. Yes, it was done to set up a "feud" between Sayid and Ana Lucia but everyone automatically hates Ana Lucia already (both characters AND audience), so killing Shannon to get to that tension makes no sense.

The actress who plays Shannon had a big blow up with the management about her contract, plus she's been cast in X-Men 3 and all sorts of other movies, most of which are the "horror"/thriller types.
