And it is KING SIZED!

Needless to say, the pic (spiderman.sonypictures.com) is a major spoiler about a mystery casting choice and villain for Spider-Man 3. You have been warned.

Sweeeeet. After the CGI work done for Doc Ock, this bodes well for the potential effects for Spidey 3. Thanks for the link!

I think they're starting to appeal to the hardcore fans now, as I had to look up the character's name in order to know who he was-- and I still haven't seen him before. Mainstream? I don't think so. Unless I'm the only one not paying attention, that is.

A good opponent for Spider-Man, though? Oh, hell yes.

And the other rumored villains are...well, a 70s knock-off of a classic 60s villain...and a cool 90s spinoff of a 80s super-crossover.

I took the liberty of clearing up the picture, as to get a better look, available here (i.1asphost.com).

While I'm not hugely familiar with that last character, I'm having doubts about another certain small-framed actor (snlyou.jt.org) rumored to play a much larger villain (planetcomics.jp).

For those of you NOT hardcore enough, here is a site that outlines the character's background. Spoilers abound, so don't click if you don't want to know more. I did know who he was, but this page gives his (It's hard NOT to say the character's name) origin.

Why are we not saying his name??
All I know is that there had better be a certain Metallica song playing when this dude shows up on the screen.

I am completely lost. Who is this guy? The character, not the actor.

Am I the only one who thinks that Church looks like an older John Cena?

The Sandman.
There's a character summary of him at www,marveldirectory,com/individuals/s/sandman,htm (change commas to periods), where he's wearing the same shirt.

I did the URL like that so that it didn't become a clickable link, which shows up in yellow.

Hmmm... not so sure about this one. I remember reading a book from the 90s about certain managers and A&R people in the rock music business that included a chapter on Q Prime, who manages Metallica among other acts. Apparently, the people making the film "Army of Darkness" (directed by no other than Sam Raimi) contacted Q Prime about using Metallica music in either the trailer or the actual movie. Management refused, and then when one of the managers and Lars saw the trailer/movie, there was a "Metallica" knockoff playing as music. So they contacted the "Army of Darkness" people, and threatened to sue.

I'm at work, so I don't have the book handy. I don't seem to see it listed on Amazon, either, so I'll have to post the information when I get home.

ObMoreOnTopic - while said villain wouldn't be my first choice of villain for SM3, I do admit that they've nailed the appearance of said villain dead to rights.

I'm pretty sure Thomas Hayden Church isn't going to be "THE" villain of Spider-Man 3, just one of them.

Spoiler Below: Highlight text to read
The rumor is that it will be Sandman, Venom, and Harry as Hobgoblin.

My guess is that, since this is rumored to be Raimi's last Spider-Man movie, he's going to tie up the Parker/Harry/MJ love triangle and go out with a bang. So, I don't see this as a Batman situation (especially since they've only used one villain per movie until now), but more Raimi pulling out all the stops and tying everything up.

Spoiler Below: Highlight text to read
I think the idea here is that you can't just have Spider-Man kill the Goblin (green or otherwise) again, because we saw that in the first movie. He's going for something a little more complex, where Harry may turn at the end and help Peter kill Venom or something.

What I really love about this pic is that all they had to do was dress him in shirt and pants, dye his hair and put him on the sidewalk. Instant Spidey villain.

Just another reason why I'd be more than happy for Metallica to drop out of the spotlight forever.

Back on topic, it really is amazing how much they can get us excited with just on photo, isn't it?

"So (Metallica drummer) Lars Ulrich is watching some movie one night and the fucking trailer comes up for Army of Darkness, and note for note it's our song. So I went after them and got some money. I do it myself - I don't want to spend legal fees. I call up the person in business affairs and tell them they have no rights to use the songs. And as soon as you tell them they have no rights, they get nervous. Then you make a deal with them."

Okay, so maybe not Raimi directly, but Dino De Laurentis' production company.

We already get an official image of the villain and the movie hasn't even started shooting yet! Its not due out for release for a year and a half.

X-men is nearly supposed to be wrapping up with principal production. Its due out in about 6 months and we've yet to really see anything. Just more symbolism that X-men 3 is being rushed and is disorganized.

Spider-man 3 on the other hand, Sony has got their shit together.

Fair's fair, X3 hit a ton of trouble at a very delicate time in development. If they hadn't pulled something together, they would have lost most of the stars. If that had happened, realistically the movie would never have been made. Between the money already sunk into it in pre-production, and the number of industry people who had already made promises to distributors and theatre chains, that was not an option. X3 is not going to be as good as its predecessors, and might not be any good at all, but they were basically in a position where they had to make it, and with less resources than they really needed.

Isn't it the third reboot? The first was the post-Super Bowl episode where SD-6 gets taken down. The second was basically all of season three and now this one. I like the new season so far.
