I joined my work's head-to-head football league, despite knowing virtually nothing about the way the stats are calculated. I watch about 5-6 games a year tops, and don't really follow close enough to KNOW anything more about the sport other than the big stories (TO, Culpepper, etc.) - yet despite all this, I figured I'd have a shot at winning.

Silly me.

What would YOU do to improve this team? Don't tell me "trade this guy for this guy" or whatever, but what sort of positional upgrades would you examine - and who would you give up to do it?

Here's the team...

E. Manning
(NYG - QB)

C. Johnson
(Cin - WR) P

T. Houshmandzadeh
(Cin - WR)

B. Edwards
(Cle - WR)

T. Jones
(Chi - RB)

S. Alexander
(Sea - RB)

R. McMichael
(Mia - TE)

A. Lelie
(Den - WR)

J. Jones
(Dal - RB)

M. Vick
(Atl - QB)

J. Delhomme
(Car - QB)

H. Miller
(Pit - TE)

T. Duckett
(Atl - RB) Q

J. Brown
(Sea - K)

J. Hanson
(Det - K)

Baltimore
(Bal - DEF)

Football remains the only fantasy sport I play that I can't conquer, solely due to knowledge. Help me out!

Thanks guys.

Try to trade Vick for an upgrade at the WR position, but don't give up Johnson (maybe offer up McMichael in a package deal). Cut one of the two kickers, unless you have to start two, and pray that Thomas Jones keeps his job, and Shaun Alexander stays healthy.

You've got a pretty sweet team for someone who doesn't follow football. Your only weakness at this point is the Baltimore defense, which has been creakier than usual this season. I'd try to deal them and either Lelie or Houshmanwhatever for a premium defense.

On the flip side, congrats to ABC for hiring Tim McGraw to tailor the lyrics to "I like it, I love it" for every halftime highlight show throughout the "Monday Night Football" season. Just last week, my buddy House and I were discussing Cosell's classic highlight narratives in the '70s, and how nobody had approached them since, and I told House, "Only one thing could ever come close, and I know it's a long shot, but what if ABC hired Tim McGraw to tailor the lyrics to 'I Like it, I Love It' for each week of NFL highlights throughout the season?" And wouldn't you know, it happened! See, dreams can come true. --- Bill Simmons, www.sportsguy.net

After the bye weeks, you really don't need three QBs, and barring injury you might even get away with just one. Personally I'd keep Eli and Jake because neither of them are surefire points week in and week out, but they're both consistent. Deal Vick to the poor fool who took Culpepper or someone else who could use another starting QB. If nobody wants to deal, don't be afraid to drop him if you see another free agent you'd rather snap up.

As for your lineup, I'd recommend starting Miller at TE once Big Ben comes back, those two seem to be in sync. Lelie has been a terrible fantasy wideout this season (I should know, I keep starting him) so don't be afraid to trade or cut him.

Not sure about your goal difference makeup calculations there. If Mexico v Uruguay is a draw, then Uruguay win the group, and Mexico finish second.
