Contrary to what Shaughenssey wrote in teh Globe, Theo doesn't sign his new contract.

They offer Billy Beane $2.5 mill, Theo wins the World Series, and he only gets up to $1.5?

The Red Sox didn't deserve a general manager as good as Theo Epstein. Now, they don't have him.

"He is the most overrated piece of crap in the league. He bitched and whined after he got his ass beaten in New England last year, so the NFL changed the rules. Then he got his ass beaten in New England again. Every year he's the top MVP candidate. Every year he's supposed to be the best. Every year he's going to carry the Colts to the Super Bowl. And every single year he goes to New England and gets his ass beaten. And his brother's a whiny little bitch." -A friend of mine, on Peyton Manning

Speculation is because of what His Royal Highness Larry Lucchino directed his longtime peon Shaughnessy to write in the Globe, Theo is gone.
Forget the fiasco that was the last years of the Harrington/Duquette regime, culminating in the abysmal Joe Kerrigan Reign of Terror. This is sinking back into the days of the Mrs. Yawkey/Buddy Leroux/Haywood Sullivan era where they let Fisk and Lynn and Burleson go due to pettiness. That led to the always memorable Ralph Houk Malaise, and, after Larry finally gets his wish of dumping Manny Ramirez, that is probably where the Red Sox are heading. 77-85, here we come.
At least they won 1 more World Title in my lifetime than I expected.

Simmons wasn't suposed to have a new column until Wednesday.

I wonder if this will cause one to appear tomororw.

I can't imagine there are much more than five teams that will pay that kind of coin for a GM, no matter how much of a genius he is. Although I hear living in Boston, as a member of the 'Sawx' organization is a bit much, so maybe that helped push him out.

And by the way - Am I the only one that thinks that Simmons lost his mojo when the Red Sox won last year? Hard to be the voice of the average fan when your teams are winning everything in sight.

I await The Curse of Epstein.

Ah, don't I wish. The Philly papers are reporting no contact, with rumors that Theo's leaving baseball or taking a year off. Expect new Phillie's GM Gerry Hunsicker or (more likely) new Phillies GM Pat Gillick in the upcoming days. Hey, it's better than new Phillies GM Mike Arbuckle.

It's quite hard to believe the last 12 months in Red Sox nation. It's just been one thing after another.

I know Simmons says there is a five year rule and all that, but f'ing Lucchino can blow me. Theo may not have been the greatest GM out there, but I'll virtually guarantee you that whoever replaces him won't be as good as he was. Yeah, I'm whining. So be it.

Dammit.

The big rumour I keep hearing is that JP Riccardi is leaving Toronto to become the new BoSox GM. Get ready for more years of underachieving, Boston.

On the flip side, congrats to ABC for hiring Tim McGraw to tailor the lyrics to "I like it, I love it" for every halftime highlight show throughout the "Monday Night Football" season. Just last week, my buddy House and I were discussing Cosell's classic highlight narratives in the '70s, and how nobody had approached them since, and I told House, "Only one thing could ever come close, and I know it's a long shot, but what if ABC hired Tim McGraw to tailor the lyrics to 'I Like it, I Love It' for each week of NFL highlights throughout the season?" And wouldn't you know, it happened! See, dreams can come true. --- Bill Simmons, www.sportsguy.net

Three weeks ago, it's Cashman who was leaving and Epstein who was staying... funny how things work out, don't they?

It's good to see that the WWE isn't backing away from Batista or Cena. There's still some questions lingering over a few of the draft moves they either made or didn't make (Jericho being a prime example), but the stage is set for a solid run to Summerslam that may send the indicator down. The longer Triple H stays away is also a plus...
