I caught the debut of "The Colbert Report" Monday night. I never watch "The Daily Show," and I don't know why- the few times I've seen it it's good, and I like Jon Stewart.
But I thought "The Colbert Report" was very funny.

I've watched it every night since then, and I think it's still pretty good. But no guest could top Stone Phillips.

Anybody else watch it?

I am, and I love it. I don't want some book-learning choked liberal manager type to read the news TO me. I want someone who will feel the news at me. Someone with gravitas. "The Word" has been a hearty chunk of quality humor for three straight days ("Tear me off a piece of that!" "That's how I roll!" and "CLAP, CLAP, CLAP").

Oh, and Lisa Loeb tonight was nothing short of outstanding.

So far, the best part of this week was the fact that Bill O'Reilly basically made an ass of himself on "The Daily Show", referring to Colbert as "the French guy" and calling the French "our enemy" and later on, Colbert simply took it in stride and made a joke out of it. He's gonna be around for a long time and he's a great follow-up to Jon Stewart.

And maybe I'm a little biased because I love his work on Harvey Birdman.

I've been wanting the Daily Show to be expanded to an hour (at least when they have decent guests and not Hollywood plugging movies) for a while now. This fits the bill and will probably stay fresh for much longer.

Good one, Comedy Central!

The Daily Show, Colbert Report, and Too Late With Adam Carolla make a great night for viewing. I just wish Tough Crowd was still on to fill that 12:30 spot.

I loved that show. I still can't believe they axed it.

I've enjoyed the show so far (especially the Word, as JTL mentioned). I do wonder how much life the show is going to have, since it will be awful repetitive having Colbert playing the obnoxious rightwing character who accidentally points out the irony on every item. But so far, so good.

I'm a little concerned that the joke will get old. Stewart has his bias, but he's pretty good at giving it to both sides. This show on the other hand is just parodizing the right-wing blowhard. David Cross will likely recur as "Mr. Liberal Jewish College Professor", whatever the hell his name was.

I'm looking forward to the "Worthy Challenger" segment, when that kicks in.

Well damn. I saw the one with the Lou Dobbs interview and now I find myself right where I am with the Daily Show - wishing the interviews would go just a bit longer.

Good show...the WORD is awesome, nice parody of O'Reilly's Talking Points memo. Seems the ratings have been good too, which is good news for people who like the show right away.

Poor Jeff Daniels. He was probably wondering "What the hell just happened?" when his segment got done tonight.

I just watched that. Absolutely hilarious. That's gotta make anyone nervous about sitting down with Colbert.

Unfortunatley, I've been busy the past two weeks, and have only seen a couple episodes. I was slightly dissapointed with the first one. But now that I've gotten used to the format, I'm REALLY enjoying it. The Word, as everyone else has said, is hilarious. And Colbert introducing his guest, and then running with his arms raised high while his guest sits in a yet-to-be-lit part of the studio is just gold.

As a side note, I've been enjoying the new reporter The Daily Show has gotten to fill in since they lost Colbert, James Jones (I believe that's his name). Dan Bakkydal (sp) was not really showing much to me, but Jones' story on "Commander in Chief" ranked up there with some of the funniest packages the show has ever done.

Having just caught the Daily Show replay, I'd have to say that maybe Trent Lott should think about staying out of the spotlight some more. The "best man, woman, or minority" isn't all that endearing Trent.

The Barney Frank and Jeff Daniels interviews were both solid gold gold. Consider them nailed.

I think it's Jason. But I agree that he has got it and Bakkedahl don't. Corddry's brother was also good in his tryout, albeit a creepy reflection of Corddry prime.

Ed Helms, OTOH, is trying waaaaaay too hard to be Colbert The Second, and he just doesn't do that whole Colbert thing as well or as precise.

Apparently Jones & Samantha Bee are married. I remember Jones from one of the bazillion Comedy Network (Canada's Comedy Central) sketch comedy shows, specifically an awesome awesome sketch where Batman blackmailed Superman with gay photos in order to beat Superman in a tennis match (Batman also got Jimmy Olsen's head in the deal as well).

I'm pretty sure Daniels was in on the joke. He WAS in Dumb and Dumber afterall.

I think Helms reminds me of Colbert, but he's his own idiot (the character). I was a little worried Ed Helms was gonna pull a Mo Rocca on us, but thankfully he showed back up.

The more Corddrii, the better.

I think if anything, he was playing along, but it seemed like he wasn't expecting it and legitimately didn't know what to say at times.

All the correspondents are kinda cut from the same cloth. I do think that Helms is generally stupider and more obsequious than Colbert, though.

Did Rocca leave the show unexpectedly or something?

I'd rather have more Wiltfong than Bakkedahl, personally.
