Three-time Olympic gold medalist, reigning WNBA MVP. Think she's the most prominent player to come out (sports.espn.go.com) while she's still playing?

WNBA player? Yes. Overall athlete (WHILE competing)? I'd say Martina Navratilova.

Good for her.

I'll be crude enough to say what so many are thinking.

I'll take a different approach: does anyone really care? I mean it is the WNBA and the whole "lesbian" umbrella has been hanging over them since the leagues inception. Now one of its players comes out as gay? Meh. I turned the channel. If this was the 70s or 60s, then it would have been newsworhty. But unlike Martina, I doubt coming out will dampen her endorsements too much. And she is seen as a hero by many unlike the villian Martina was seen as.

Good for her for being true to herself. but really, who cares?

What about Mike Piazza?

On the flip side, congrats to ABC for hiring Tim McGraw to tailor the lyrics to "I like it, I love it" for every halftime highlight show throughout the "Monday Night Football" season. Just last week, my buddy House and I were discussing Cosell's classic highlight narratives in the '70s, and how nobody had approached them since, and I told House, "Only one thing could ever come close, and I know it's a long shot, but what if ABC hired Tim McGraw to tailor the lyrics to 'I Like it, I Love It' for each week of NFL highlights throughout the season?" And wouldn't you know, it happened! See, dreams can come true. --- Bill Simmons, www.sportsguy.net

Absolutely true. Who cares who she sleeps with?

I caught a couple of clips of her play Basketball on TV a few nights ago...and she's awesome. Just don't let her sexual preference overshadow her game, and we're all good.

NEW YORK (AP) -- Mike Piazza responded today to what he called an "unsubstantiated, clearly fabricated" internet report questioning his sexual preference. Piazza, the former All-Star catcher for the Dodgers, Marlins, and Mets, explained "I don't know where this "Big Bad" gets his information, but I am absolutely a heterosexual. I don't know how one could assume I go both ways when I don't even do that on the baseball field. I mean, have you seen my defense?"

Piazza, 37, expressed concern that any rumors of homosexuality might damper his potential free agent prospects, while offering "This guy, this "Big Bad Wolf" or whatever, he had this super-hot avatar of (Saturday Night Live actress) Tina Fey, it, uh, gave me...let's just say I was interested, OK? Doesn't get any more hetero than that, does it?"

Mike Piazza has hit 397 home runs over a 13-year career.
