Here's a question I'll likely look silly for asking...

I recently got a new laptop that came with a DVD burner. While I'm able to burn .wmv and .avi files on to it, I guess I'm doing something wrong in the process because I can't get the DVDs to play in my DVD player for the television....

Am I supposed to be converting them to something else first? Is it impossible to make such files DVD viewable?

Help me out W's!

I would say get yourself a copy of Nero, because I've always had success with it. Unless the file you are trying to burn is a DVD rip or DVDR, you're going to have to convert it. Nero will do all the encoding for you, but I would recommend doing it overnight while you sleep because it's a resource hog and also takes quite awhile depending upon the quality you are going for.

Some DVD players can handle non-DVD formats...but not all of them. I'm not sure if any of them can play WMVs.

I've heard good things about the Philips DVP642 (The W at Amazon) for a cheap player that can handle DivX/XviD avi files.

A great site I used to use to figure out which DVD players to get is http://www.videohelp.com/ (God help me, I don't know how that link will turn out, so expect an "edit" or two).

You can just click on "dvd players" on the left and then search based on pretty much anything you want to see all sorts of reviews made by other users of the site.

Plus, it's also great for guides to get you started in encoding whatever you want into whatever format you want.

A Google search seems to indicate that Trend Micro is your antivirus program. http://www.trendmicro.com/vinfo/virusencyclo/default5.asp?VName=POSSIBLE_DLDER It sounds like it didn't give you a location or name for the file?
