If he has some rep from Scientology go to the restroom with Katie, then were they there for conception as well?

Come now, Christopher. Even you must be able to tell a rhetorical question when you see one.

But, if you need it spelled out, much of that miniseries revolved around the story of a human mother who was impregnated by an alien visitor, and whose baby, subsequently, possessed a long reptilian tongue. I was merely extrapolating. But I'll bet you knew that.

Not all women ask for drugs during delivery.
Not all women scream. It sounds like people
are getting their knowledge of delivery from
watching cliches on television and in movies.

Don't know how many women scream during pregnancy. Doubt they keep any statistics for that sort of thing.

    HA!!

And somewhere Chris Klein is crying, him and Katie were together for like 2-3 years and nothing. She's with Cruise for what 5 months and she's already preggers.
My first thought was "Klein has gotta be PISSED" but then I remembered that you don't need intercourse to conceive and Tom's ambiguity lived on.

Tom's pregnant, too? It's the miracle of life!

Seriously, though, if the Scientologists demand that the baby spend the first week of hir life in complete silence, and the baby ends up being a serial killer or something, don't come bitching to me. The more love and attention the baby gets the earlier it gets it, the better.

THANK you. Having been present at the hospital during the birth of two of my four nieces from my two sisters, I can say that for them at least it wasn't the case at all.

Do any women find it at least somewhat demeaning how TV in particular always portrays women giving birth as being irrationally hysterical?

I was with my wife for the birth of both our children, and I have to admit that on both occasions there were one or two women giving birth in other rooms that literally sounded like they were being murdered. Both times during the very loud screaming I mentioned to the nurse that I took it that they were having natural child birth without the epidural, and the nurse told me I was correct.

During the birth of our first child, my wife was leaning towards having our child without the epidural. But after hearing the intense screaming coming from down the hallway of the maternity ward, she quickly changed her mind and asked for the epidural. After listening to the constant screaming that afternoon, 4 years later I insisted that my wife take the epidural before the birth of our second child, and my wife gave me no argument at all.

Also, I was told by a couple guys that I work with that their wives did the whole "natural child birth with no drugs" thing, and they both said their wives did a great deal of screaming, yelling and swearing during their child births.

Isn't a baby supposed to cry somewhat after being born? To start up their lungs so to say?

And how can one keep a baby silent for a whole week?
Or maybe they aren't all that loud in those first days and only start wailing once they realize that its a great way to get attention?
*clueless aura on this subject, just curious*

I think they mean that no one makes a sound in front of the baby. Babies come out of the womb screaming and pretty much scream at will. Not even Scientology could silence a baby who wants to scream.

Take this for what its worth, but I remember reading a story in grade school about how immediately after birth, Native American women would hold cup their hands over their baby's mouth and hold its breath whenever it would start to cry. I think the premise was that a crying baby could draw unwanted attention to the tribe.

Also, I'm sure there is plenty of anecdotal evidence for both sides regarding the ability of women to naturally handle childbirth in a calm manner. There was a recent discussion at my office where several mothers regaled us with stories of their various childbirths, and the consensus was that epidurals are a godsend. I think the problem here is that we don't know Katie's pain threshold, and should she find that natural childbirth without screaming is too painful for her, she won't have any sort of drugs as an option. Then again, if she can endure her own acting 'talent', maybe she's tougher than we give her credit for.

Even if Katie does end up screaming during the birth, what are they going to do ? Kill her ? Tom's going to immediately divorce her ?

Will there be "Scientology Druid priests" observing her very closely during the whole birth ?

A little quick math:

April: Katie Holmes disappears for sixteen days, reemerging at the end of April as Tom Cruise's new love interest, also associating herself with other known Scientologists.

October: Tom and Katie announce her pregnancy, with pictures taken at a mid-October soccer game suggesting that she's at least five months along.

Ick?
