If you take nothing else from this post, take this.

You must buy the DVD.

Samoa Joe v. Kenta Kobashi was an unbelievable match. Absolutely off the charts. Anyone who's a fan of strong style will wet themselves with delight on how stiff these guys worked. Joe's chest was so purple I thought Prince had a garage sale.

The crowd had high expectations and these two did not disappoint by any means. In an industry where hyperbole is the order of the day, I can honestly say that the action and the heat the crowd had was more intense than anything else I've ever seen live.

And the hell of it is, they're going to try to top it tonight.

Other notes...
- I missed the opening two matches, which was a touch of a bummer as Colt Cabana is a personal favorite.
- Nigel McGuinness played an excellent heel to Jay Lethal. I'm not sure I was wild about defending the Pure Title with a foreign object shot, but there it was.
- Prince Nana is a heat machine and Jimmy Rave keeps getting better as a worker and as a heel.
- James Gibson (Jamie Noble, Boy!) put over the locker room and management in a big way in his last weekend in RoH. That was after a sweet match against Jimmy Yang (Yung Dragons Explode!)
- Jack Evans seems to have learned a few wrestling moves since he left, but it was a good idea to pair him with Homicide, because 'cide could carry me to a two star match, and I can't even breakdance. Cide will also never be a true heel in NY. But who cares, really?

I'm really excited about the Danielson/Sabin ROH title match whenever that happens. From my understanding it will be the first time they've ever faced one another.

Dermody, on a scale of 5 stars what would you rate Kobashi/Joe? MOTYC possibly? I hear the lariat Kobashi gave Joe was sick.

It's a no brainer for a MOTYC, and I can't think of any other match this year that comes close. There certainly aren't any I've seen that I can come up with off the top of my head.

The lariat was indeed sick, but the machine gun chop spot was just murderous. I tried to count how many Joe took in the corner, and it was at least sixty-five and probably more.

Joe threw a muscle buster, a diving shoulderblock to the outside... I was in wrestling nerd heaven.

I was in attendance for the ROH show the next night in Northeast Philly. It was Kobashi and Homicide vs. Samoa Joe and Low Ki and it was off the charts. The chops were flying and the stiffness was evident. It was actually Low Ki who got the most respect from me as he was taking as much punishment as he was dishing out. And Kobashi was much more animated than I was expecting.

The entire night was terrific, featuring an even better WRESTLED match than the aforementioned main event with Roderick Strong and James Gibson putting on a wrestling clinic. Gibson put over Strong in a really credible way.

The other interesting note was that Paul Bearer came out and proclaimed himself the new commissioner of ROH. This brought out Jim F'n Cornette, who got a pop like he was Kobashi. Long story short, Cornette is the new commish and he put over ROH and pure WRESTLING strong.

Overall for that being my first live ROH show, I was impressed. And the crowd was super hot for a Philly crowd.
