Might as well get as much use out of the TAR tag as possible!

-The family dichotomy is interesting. Interesting enough that it will still be interesting come the end of the season? Too early to tell!

-Phew, I missed a season long of crippling moral guilt at being deeply amused that the token black family was "The Black Family." "Goooooo Blacks!" Hahahahaha...oooh...so wrong. I liked them though. The kids were more pissed than the parents.

Anybody else still following along?

Nope. I hate the concept of "Family" events. Although they probably are not as bad as they seem on TV, the kids on these shows (see Fear Factor, Supernanny etc) always come across as bratty and spoiled. I have four kids and I would never expose them to this (a contestant on the show) so I would fee hypocritical watching. Also, 2 players is better than four in my book. I hope that the Family edition bombs so they don;t do it every couple of seasons.

At the very beginning of David Spade's new show, they showed the clip of the Black family arriving at the finish and Phil telling them, "Black family, you're the last team to arrive." Then cut to David Spade, who deadpans, "The Amazing Race? More like The Amazing Racists. Jew Family, you're next!!"

...OK, maybe you had to be there, but I was busting a gut.

As for the Family Edition, meh. It seems like they aren't going to be doing any air travel. Am I correct? If not, I'd be supremely disappointed. Part of the excitement for me was seeing teams rush to make a flight (like Rob & Amber last season).

I believe they're not going to leave the US this year. Lots of driving, probably not so much flying.

My problem with tAR in past seasons has been teams where one member is doing all of the work and the other one is just along for the ride. With four people on each team, and kids on some of them, that's just going to get worse.

They did a decent job of making up for it with the emphasis on teamwork in the challenges, but I don't believe they'll be able to sustain it in an interesting way.

It was a lot better than the "this could kill the show!" talk, but I'm not convinced yet.

Anyone racing wearing a WHO DEY t-shirt is a-okay with me.

Phil did mention at the start that the show was paying for plane tickets as usual, so there will probably be some flying involved down the line.

I don't mind lots of driving and less flying. It reduces two of the more annoying aspects of the show: teams being heavily dependent on the quality of the cab driver they get, and bunching caused by there being only one flight from X to Y and everyone getting on it.

I usually don't watch it with it's cast of thousands making no point, but Football Night in America might have been harmed by Patriots/Cowboys going to around 7:45 eastern.
