I just bought the long-anticipated sequel to Katamari Damacy, and it is a blast. The gameplay is changed just enough to retain the simple fun of rolling around and picking up stuff, but with new additions like rolling around underwater and in space. There's also a level where your Katamari is on fire, and you need to keep picking up items to keep it lit.
The music is still fantastic, and the King is back in all his glory, turntable voice and all.

So, yes, get this game now. It's only $30, and is a heck of a lot better than other full-priced games.

I tried the first one and I HATED it. It was almost TOO Japanese for me. Not that I don't like quirky Japanese games (I still play all of the Parappa games to this day). Maybe I didn't do enough drugs back in the day.

The music WAS good though.

Agreed. This is one of those games where you can simply "beat" a level usually on the first attempt to progress in the story (and it's almost as obscure as the original's) but you really end up wanting to go back to do just a little bit better.

Especially cute is that they take a sort of step back in terms of how it relates to the original. Yes, the original story did happen, but all the fans that give you your missions played Katamari Damacy, which sort of leaves you with a bit of paradox.

One thing I don't care for, however, is that some levels pause to load during the level. I guess it's that much more expansive than the original that it needs it.

If you liked the first one, you won't be disappointed here. If you didn't play the first one and are curious, maybe give the original a shot first because (a) it's cheaper if you want to buy it and (b) the story for WLK will be even more amusing.

Dare I say the King is even more fabulous in this one? His throne has hearts and a JOYSTICK. The music's even better here, if not a bit self-referential.

The post-level movies are even better, telling the story of the King and his rise to, uh, a shorter hairstyle?

I have to say I'm liking this one 1,000 times more than the original, if only for the 2 Player co-op mode. I enjoy playing that with my roommate immensely, but unfortunately, he'd rather play through it all by himself, and bugs me to play X-Men Legends 2 instead.

But 2 Player co-op.... that's reason enough to get this game ^.^

Does anyone (or did anyone) check ps2newz.net on a regular basis? I tried to catch up on PS2 news this morning and the site appears to be all but gone. The only thing remaining is the message, "The king is dead. Long live the king.
