It would've been pretty hard to continue Benoit's face push while he was injured.

Blaming Benoit's injury on Triple H being out? Huh?

Anyone else notice that in every match but the main event, the heel won? I wish they could have given wins to Edge or RVD to break things up a little. I was especially disappointed with Edge's loss, as it seems to leave him nowhere to go except back down to the midcard.

Tajiri/Kidman was a damn good match, and for once the commentators actually took a cruiser match seriously (Lawler's stupid geisha girl jokes aside). The selling of Tajiri's Kicks-o-Death, both by the commentators and by Kidman, was top-rate, and Kidman got plenty of kickouts and comebacks so he looked good even jobbing. It's inevitable they had to keep the feud going, since it's all the CW division has right now, but I'm looking forward to the rematch.

Hall/Bradshaw: Eh. Pretty much what I expected.

Jazz/Trish: Molly punching Trish right in the throat with the mic was a very good thing. Other than that, it was a standard Jazz/Trish match, but that's nothing to turn up your nose at.

Brock Lesnar didn't look bad, but anyone can look good with Jeff Hardy to beat up on. We'll see how he does in a -real- match.

Taker/Austin started well, then spiraled downward into crap, and Flair's lousy reffing didn't help. At least they made it part of the story this time, but it didn't make the match any less tedious to watch.

As for Triple H/Hogan: Well. I am NOT looking forward to Hogan/Taker at Judgment Day, and I hope they find a way to change it up before then. The match itself was all right when it was Triple H and Hogan trying to outmuscle each other, but when they started actually trying to wrestle, it got a lot worse; the long sequence with Triple H working over Hogan's leg was ruined by the fact that Hogan can't sell for shit, and everything else was just slow, slow, slow.

And Benoit's injury would not have happened if not for Trips' injury. It happened in the four-way TLC match THE NIGHT AFTER Trips' injury... it was booked on the fly and would not have happened if Trips had not been injured. We would have likely seen a six-man of some sort without the belts on the line to build to a rematch the next week, which the Canadians also would have won, and then a build to individual PPV matchups (HHH v. Benoit, Austin v. Jericho) for KOTR.

And Vince could have easily continued to push Jericho. In fact, in retrospect, he would have been a better choice to lead the WWF after Austin defected to the Alliance because Jericho was the experienced face (with the heat to back him up) and Angle was merely someone that the Fed had paired up with Austin to make up for the loss of Trips', never truly turned against Austin, and was in virgin territory as a babyface. But Jericho got to get Gored through the Ovaltron by Rhyno and then became a job boy for RVD before the Rock angle, which didn't really help him because Vince wouldn't let him keep the title.

Plus, again, you're overlooking the fact that the Fed's strategy for the Invasion angle was clearly a heel Austin leading the Alliance against a face HHH-led WWF. That was the reason they held off on the Austin/HHH feud after Wrestlemania. That was the reason they were building up tension between Austin and HHH the night of the injury, with the Invasion only two PPVs away.

If Trips doesn't get hurt, 90% of the shit we get in the past year does not happen. Period.

We'll miss you Texas, since Jericho isn't going to be seeing hide nor hair of any belt higher than IC level for a long while again. I don't much like that fact, and I would love to see Jericho take the belt from Hulk, but it isn't going to happen. No way, no how.

I make that comment because that's what I want. I'll take the Fed showing a bit of intelligence and starting to seriously and meaningfully push their future stars. But the chances of that happening are the same of Jericho getting the belt back, so why bother with the simpler thing?
I'm frustrated. Immensely frustrated. And have been so for months. What else can I do? There's no ECW anymore to run to.

Or into a longer feud with Angle, giving us more awesome matches for the next month or two.

And I blame years of top-rope headbutts for Benoit`s injury. Not HHH.

I took a few breaths before posting here, just to make sure I had my thoughts clear.

Label me as one of the people who are pissed that Hogan's got the belt. At the same time, I'll take back anything negative said if Hogan actually drops the belt relativly cleanly to someone. But I'm got this dread that we're going to be seeing Hogan with the title until Summerslam at least....

Actually, what bothers me the most is that Jericho's program looks to be pretty screwed up. Sure, he'll continue his "feud" with Hogan on Smackdown, but he certainly won't get any rub from it, and I'm guessing that this story ends in a Jericho/HHH match for the May PPV, and we all know how those matches go.....

Whatever. I guess if Hogan had to get the title, he should get it now rather than later, but god damn that crowd was quiet for the match.....

This is obviously complete speculation on your part. I think that if Triple H & Benoit didn't get injured, the Invasion angle would have happened at all, or at least not happen the way it did.

I don't think he's going to hold it until SummerSlam. This is just a way to capitalize on his current popularity. The title will be off him by King of the Ring tops.

I can't believe that the crowd was more into Tajiri/Kidman than RVD/Guerrero. Oh well... it was a night of surprises all around, I guess.

I'm glad so many heels went over... It seems that many of these fueds will continue because of it. If Kidman went over, Mysterio would have to debut AGAINST him... we don't want a heel Rey, do we? No... Rey can align himself with Kidman and all will soon be right in the cruiser division (not COMPLETELY right, I guess, but on the right track)

Edge and Angle are not finished- not to mention UT and Austin being far from done. Flair is going to give Austin a rematch tomorrow night (let's hope it's a SHORT rematch). Also, HHH and Jericho get to continue their fued on Smackdown. There was no resolution there, either.

Of course, Hall won, so all is not lost with the nWo... this was the only match that I thought HAD to finish a certain way, and it did. (Brock/Hardy also had a necessary finish, but I didn't think there was ANY way to frick THAT one up)

I'm happy, because this PPV does not wipe the slate clean on all fronts. The WWF is setting up for the Summer run, not hotshotting the every angle on every show.. For that, the WWF gets a thumbs up.

Hogan... still don't know... but obviously... Hulkamania is running wild again (which is okay, as long is it and Hogan are gone by the end of Survivor Series)

OK, let me weigh in for a sec.

1. To blame Benoit's injury on HHH is ridiculous. Benoit (like alot of wrestlers now) was well on his way to the hospital before HHH got hurt.

2. The Invasion was originally booked to be WCW v. WWF. Not Austin v. HHH. Austin was shunted in to give him something to do, and because WCW was tanking by itself.

3. To say that Hogan is a bad champ because WE don't want him to be is stupid. The crowd, the marks, the people who pay $30 for a ticket or a PPV want to see Hogan as the WWF champion. Who is the WWF to argue with that? Who are we to argue with that. The fans will tire of Hogan, sure, and they'll take the belt off the Hulkster, but that doesn't mean that he shouldn't have this nostalgia run. Especially if it sells tickets.

4. Undertaker is Awesome. Goooooo, Undertaker!!!!

$30? Try $91, not including the $10 parking fee at Kemper. Cripes.

Leaving the building, indeed there were Hulkamarks everywhere going nuts. They wanted this. I didn't really want it, but don't care that much. But I'm not paying to see Hogan/Taker in the "Battle of the No-Sell Rest Holds".

Going away from Hogan, some fun notes from the show...

NO NATIONAL ANTHEM! At least not between 6:15 (Central, when we got seated) and the end.

Best sign of the night: "I SOLD MY TRAILER FOR THESE TICKETS"

Actually saw a guy (row directly below us, two seats over) grab a fan's sign and rip it to shreds, then bitch them out. (They must have made signs for two out of three wrestlers, and they'd hold them up literally through entire matches, and the guy couldn't see. He was ejected by security for doing that.)

Fierce debate between co-attendee Jen and guy sitting on the other side of me about Triple H("Face!" "Heel!" "Face!" "Heel!") and why Hogan shouldn't be champion ("the guy's boobs sag more than mine!") The four girls sitting immediately in front of us were getting wide-eyed looking really nervous. It was funny as hell.

I think I saw one of the cameras pan towards me and my "Y 2 HAS BEAN" sign during Jericho's intro. Wonder if it actually made it on camera. Wonder if Jen's "WILL 'WORK' FOR SNOW" sign, now at its second television event, made it.

On what, a ten-star scale?

Outside of the usual punch/chop/kick/clothesline offense, Austin (Lou Thesz press/Stunner) and HHH (high knee/Pedigree) have a limited moveset. HHH is coming off of a major injury and has sacrificed speed and flexibility to the juice; Austin wrestles with two knee braces and is less than two years removed from neck surgery that could have crippled him for life. Both wrestlers know "psychology" - but to most fans, that and a dollar bill would buy a can of Coke. HHH's promos are littered with grunts; Austin's promos are littered with "What?"s.

I can't see a situation in which these two - in their current forms - could construct a five star match.

A five star match doesn't have to be the best technical masterpiece on the card. I think you're dismissing the power of "psychology" a little too easily. The matches I remember the most are the ones I marked out for, not the ones that impressed me technically. The three I think of off the top of my head:

Angle / HHH (before the Austin run-in... I forget the PPV)
Rock / Austin (Wrestlemania 17 - before the McMahon run-in)
Rock / Jericho (Where Jericho won the title, before the Steph run-in, at which point I screamed "OH F*** OFF!!" in the middle of a crowded bar).

You know, I see a pattern here. Stupid run-ins.

The Benoit / Austin match from Raw a while back had the entire room marking out. And half of them weren't wrestling fans. Yeah, I know, it's BENOIT, but he was making a point of using mostly punches and kicks to sell the "Austin can out wrestle me if he wants to" side of that story.

I'm in danger of drifting, so I'll just reiterate (I think I spelled that right) that a technical masterpiece with no psychology is forgettable, but a less-technical match with flawless psychology (storytelling in and out of the ring) sticks with you.

Your sign was indeed spotlighted during the show! Everyone I was watching with also made fun of the spelling, but I guess it was intentional.. to your credit, in retrospect, Jericho did pronounce it wrong.
