ALLEN PARK, Mich. - Detroit Lions president Matt Millen has agreed to a five-year contract extension, owner William Clay Ford Sr. announced Wednesday.
Millen, who is in the fifth and final season of his original contract, said that he agreed to the deal last month, but the announcement was delayed to avoid taking the focus off the team. The extension will run through the 2010 season.
As a Detroiter and Lions fan, getting optimistic about anything is rather impossible. About the only praise we're allowed to say for the team is "At least we're not Cleveland."
That said, Millen's done a great job. His drafts have been excellent, and all seem to point towards making the team something. The reasons for the package not coming together yet are not his, but lie with certain players/coaches.
We're the middle children of history...no purpose or place. We have no Great War, no Great Depression. Our great war, our defining crucible, is a spiritual war.
