Look at the grey ink test because I think that's the most telling stat to separate Sandberg from the Tigers' duo. Sandberg scores a 134 while Trammel and Whitaker are both under fifty. While they compare well with similarity scores, I think that Trammel and Whitaker are both comparable to Sandberg, but lesser players.
Sandberg was basically the best second baseman of the eighties and early ninties and he won an MVP. Trammel and Whitaker weren't the best at their position and never won MVPs. Sanberg won nine gold gloves and the other two combined for seven.
In my opinion, Whitaker and Trammel were just pretty good for a long time whereas Sandberg was a class above them. Sandberg's numbers are a little bit better and he played fewer seasons. There have been worse selections than Trammel and Whitaker (actually, quite a few), but I don't see any pressing need to have them in there at this point.
I don't really think Sweet Lou deserves to be in, but I think a real case could be made for Tram.
Tram had an MVP like season in 87, won an MVP in LCS play, but was always shadowed by Cal Ripken, i think.
Just my 2 cents.
But, your probably right. I'm probably just too biased :)

Why not Trammell or Whitaker?
Neither will go in. But if you look at both players stats, there on par with Sandbergs.

Like I said...I was being a nitpicky douche, and I apologize. It just irks me, as I'm a huge Ryno fan. I have the guys poster up on my wall still, with his 89 Topps Rookie Card next to it.
Can you touch a rainbow? Can you put the wind in your pocket? No! Such is Neifi!

His rookie card was from '83 (come on, just because we're being nitpicky - I couldn't resist ).
Toronto got screwed? They traded for an injured player. Then, they didnt resign him. How did they get "screwed"? And, why should he pay them back for his surgery and such? I am sure his insurance covered it.
