Seeing how popular Google! Maps and Google! Earth are, MSN has gotten into the game with http://virtualearth.msn.com/ . I do like how you can locate your computer on the map either by installing a program that uses Wi-Fi technology to locate it, or by going based on your ISP. Apparently I work in Davenport, IA, though (or at least the IP address here makes them think that). And their satellites seem to cover a wider area than Google's did. I can zoom all the way in on my place of business, which Google didn't let me do.
EDIT: Apparently all the way in is a 75 yard view, which I can't do. But I can do 100 yard view, which is enough to see the buildings. Google will only go to 2000 ft, which is like 10X worse.

My place of employment (built in 1999) and the building next door (built in 1996) haven't been built yet, so it looks like they're working with older views than Google, at least for State College, PA.
I checked it out earlier this morning. The site was a lot slower than Google's, but I'll check it out again later today to be sure.
I was able to zoom in closer to my condo complex in So. Cal. than I can with Google, but it wouldnt let me see my wife's mom's* house in CT at all. The whole area was completely whited out. Weird.

The OEOB and White House are blurred in google's maps too. My only guess is that they don't want one to see where the guard placements are. Yes, there are armed guards on them from time to time.

In their version of reality, the World Trade Center towers are still standing. Now if their pictures of New York are at least four years old, how old are the other pictures?

I gotta see that; does anyone have the links to that on Google and MSN?

I've seen the following movies this year:
Coach Carter; Star Wars III; Batman Begins; Fantastic Four

Some photos are newer than others.
Google has had the same "empty lot" photo of the WTC up that Mapquest's former satellite photo service (Globex?) used to have up for awhile. Both Google & MSN use the exact same photo for the Pentagon & White House area, but MSN's photos of my house & the house I grew up in are way newer than Google's.
Then there are some that are different, but I dont know for sure which is newer. In Google's photo of Logan airport in Boston, you can see 3 planes lined up over Boston harbor coming in from the southeast for a landing, but they're not there for MSN.

My best friend's boyfriend works for the Dept of Defense and he took some super zoomed in shots of a guard on the White House roof. I'll see if she can let me borrow a pic to scan and share.

EDIT: Had a bad Virtual Earth link. This one still isn't very good. Click it, then click Aerial Photo at the top to switch to satellite, then zoom in. They block out the Old Excutive Office Building and the Department of the Treasury to the east and west of the White House.

I tried to zoom into Quito, Ecuador (where I was born) with GoogleEarth- but it was really bad-def and u cant even see the specific buildings. Any reason for that, or will they update it later?
(Same problem with Havana, Cuba where my stepdad was born)
