Relive the past glory of this tie: TIE OF THE DAY: 040210 (The W)

Over the weekend, there was an antiques fair inside one of our local malls, so since it was 97 outside, the in-laws picked us and the bro-bro up and we all walked around looking at stuff. There was a plastic tub full of $1 ties, causing Kim to say "Look! It's like our HOUSE!" and then instantly regret it as I started to rifle through them. But alas, I bought zero, mostly because they all looked like they'd been too dirty to give to the Salvation Army. I mean, I DO have STANDARDS, people.

I DID make my first purchase at one of these things in...about two years, I think. It was a very nice, HEAVY, Grain Belt glass - almost like a goblet, except glass. I tried to find a picture of a similar item but no dice. I think they used to give these away at the State Fair if you could perform some feat or skill or something. Anyway, $5 (talked down from $7) well spent. Kim bought some lobby cards and presented me with one from "The Rose" - because like any red-blooded heterosexual male I NEED to own a picture of Bette Midler and Sylvester.

It ended up over 90 for nine days in a row - I think last year it was over 90 for maybe six days - ALL YEAR. We finally got some rain, so things are supposed to be better today and maybe tomorrow, and then it's back to yuk - or maybe it'll rain again. I'm sure I'll have nothing better to talk about so you'll hear it when it happens!

Have you noticed yourself, since moving from CA to MN, becoming weak in regards to summer weather? I moved from NorCal (Chico) to Seattle about a year and a half ago and I can't believe how suddenly I've become a pansy to heat. Anything over 80 here makes me feel the way anything over 100 made me feel in CA. I figured the transformation would occur, but not this quickly. It's not the humidity (at least for me), the heat is both areas is relatively dry. Currently Chico's in one of those 100+ for a couple weeks stretches that I used to be so accustomed to, and now I can't fathom anything that hot.

And nice tie.

Where do you live in Seattle? I just moved from MN to Bothell.

Regarding the heat, I definitely concur. I grew up in Texas where is was hot and humid as hell. Then after 6 years in SoCal, I definitely got spoiled and lost my resistance to it. Now when it gets above 80 and I'm doing something that should not be sweat inducing, I can't handle it. I've definitely lost my tolerance for it after living out on the West Coast. I can handle heat when I am working in the yard or exercising or some activity where it should rightfully be hot...but if its just hot and there is no air conditioning, I can't handle being hot when doing something inactive (like watching TV or something).

For example, I was on a train from Kiev to Kharkov (Ukraine) yesterday, it was an overnight train with sleeper cars. I'm on the top bunk in a closed carriage with 3 other people. When the air conditioning was on, it was nice...but it would be on for about 15 minutes and then off for about 45. During those 45 minutes the temps slowly crept up as the heat rose to my top bunk, and I was pretty miserable. To sum, I was inactive (lying down, trying to sleep) and couldn't handle being hot as I was inactive. It was a long, hot, sweaty 8 hours, that's for sure.

(And CRZ, this IP should show up from Denmark, as I am laid over in Copenhagen until tomorrow's flight home in a $150 night hotel on the 21st floor overlooking this beautiful city...quite the difference in accommodations from 24 hours ago.)

Indeed it does:

IP: 212.130.108.131 (dk)

No photos?

As for resistance to heat, I think the winter took that away from me, since I haven't been where it's below zero outside in...geez, at least thirty years if ever.

I'm in Denmark but my suitcase and camera decided to lay over in Vienna a while longer (thanks SAS!)

Pictures forthcoming in a few days.

As for the winter, weren't you in MN last year when it was below zero? Or is the operative work "outside" and those were the weeks/months you were looking for work in the friendly confines of the warm indoors? Either way, you get both barrels in MN...sub zero in the winter and 95 degrees/90% humidity/mosquitoes in the summer. Spring and fall are nice, but they are only harbingers of the evils to come.

I meant that this most recent winter was the first one this cold in (x) years and that was what I was blaming on me not having my Modesto-like resistance to hot weather.

I should add that in the past for me, when it's this hot, there's also been a pool nearby for me to jump in - here, we have a....bathtub

Queen Anne, a few blocks from the Seattle Center. I enjoyed Texas summer weather for about a week while in Plano/Arlington a few years back. I can safely guarantee I will never move to Plano or Arlington.

Yes...I failed to mention that too. It'd be 105, but if I could find the will to peel myself off the couch and go outside...

As is, I have literally jumped into a pool zero times since moving here in March 2004. My only real option is the sports club down the road, but I like my pools to have a *little* chlorine in them...not the other way around, and I'm still not used to pools with roofs over them.

I considered the nasty midwest winters evening things out a bit for you, but I asked anyway.
