That's pretty obscure, but they actually also teamed in early 1992 in house show matches against Ric Flair and I forgot who Ric's partner was. Maybe Sid?
Very good show, if you wanted a 100% wrestling show- you didnt get it. But seeing that this week's show took place somewhere in the World, was Wrestling related and was very Entertaining- WWE did not break any promises.
Yes the Matt work is burning a hole in the ground with the heat its generating- but if you talk to marks (which I do, every day- as my cousins all watch Wrestling) you would know that it hasnt surpassed the Hogan-HBK thing in terms of fan interest.
I think the reason some see Cena as a ripoff of those guys that came before him is because he learned what he does by watching them- and he cant be doing it wrong if he has this much support. But sure, lets look at the similarities- Cena speaks ENGLISH- So do The Rock, Austin and Foley! Cena also like them guys- actuallly tries to garner support by (gasp!) mentioning the NAME of the town he's in! What a hackjob. I think Cena IS improving- starting with the modification of his Finisher and it will continue, give the guy some time- (for real, its not just an excuse, he IS improving).
I really like how they're doing this Jericho vs Carlito rivalry while both of them also have simultaneous feuds going on with one of the Champions on RAW- Shelton, Cena. Very impressive programming this week, cant wait til next Monday.

Yeah, it was mainly Sid Justice. A couple of times it was Flair & Undertaker (results found here (angelfire.com)).
And the Matt Hardy related fun continued into Byte This. Rather than start another new thread about it all, I figure I'll just link to the PWInsider report so it can all continue in here..
What really sucked about Byte This is that they were 90 mins late starting it.
We had the "pleasure" of hearing the entirety of the new Cena CD while we waited. At 6pm (one hour late), Grisham said the show would start shortly. Shortly meant a half hour.
The tracks were hit-or-miss. I liked about half of them.

I thought it was meant to start at 8? I went on just after that and it was recorded.
Anyway I was just thinking about this and thought I'd mention that I believe the original plan for Edge was for him to face Cena at SummerSlam and this was enforced by them having house show MEs in the coming weeks. Now that plan has changed to the current situation with Y2J and Cena shows the Edge/Cena storyline has been dropped to favour Matts recent signing. So IMO the idea that this was a work from the beginning is not possible.
Yesterday, it was advertised to start at the special time of 4pm. Today, it was advertised to start at the special time of 5pm. It FINALLY started at 6:30pm

However, it's only the 'net that has stated it was supposed to be Edge/Cena for SummerSlam. They didn't do anything on TV that would lead you to believe that was their intended direction. But I guess if it's on the internet....it's....yea you know the rest.

They may not have done anything on TV but even Meltzer was saying Edge/Cena was the plan as of a week or two ago.
Well I say thank goodness for Matt Hardy then. Edge will get plenty more chances to be World/WWE Champion. I'm glad Jericho is getting annother shot. I like cena a lot, but I'll be chanting Y2J at ss, even though I know they arn't giving him the belt. :(

Meltzer also didn't know the Hardy thing was going down. I know he's the most reputable of "internet" sources, but he's still an internet source. He was fooled too.
WWE is the one who announced Cena/Edge as the house show matches. I guess it's possible that they went to the trouble of booking that as a totally unnecessary red herring, but when they pick a touring title match for the next two months, it's with some idea in mind of, at the time, the direction they'll be going in.
House show lineups don't mean a whole lot since they get announced far in advance while the plans for TV change so quickly (just look at Shawn Michaels, as a babyface, being booked against Triple H, who's not even around, in some cities). But I think if the plan all along was for Cena and Jericho to be in a feud that spanned the entire summer, they'd have been booked on house shows into August.
It seems more likely to me that the Matt deal was either (a) not agreed upon until very recently, or (b) agreed upon back in June, but kept secret from all but a few people in the company, either way causing some people to have been anticipating different things for where the TV was going.

I take your point on board but i wouldn't call Meltzer Mr. Internet. When he started, Vince McMahon Jr. didn't own a wrestling company.
