Due to our commonwealth, we can participate as a "country" in these kinds of events. It's a huge part of our culture and one of the main reasons I think Puertoricans don't want to become a state. Pride.
*rant* I've always said PR people have a huge low self esteem problem as a society and needs events like these: the Olympics, Boxing and Ms. Universe to name a few; to let everyone know we (aka PR as a whole) are better than you in some fields. My problem is, our society usually goes overboard...they don't follow someone from the beggining, no financial or emotional back up, nothing, no matter if it's art, culture, entertainment, sports etc etc...but if some one, somehow makes it big...now suddenly EVERYFUCKINBODY is behind this cat because he or her is "representing" Puerto Rico. Case in point, Carlos Arroyo. Last year I remember the finals and everybody was pro Laker mainly cause of Shaq/Kobe...but Arroyo is eating wood with the Pistons this year and the whole island is pro Pistons. Its incredible how the bandwagon works miracles over here. I have great pride in my island and my flag, but I get so pissed that people use these devices to show their patroitism instead of everyday activities and actions that actually could help and better the country.
allright..sorry had to get that off... Go Pudge

I saw somewhere that Justin Morneau is Canadian, that means we've had Canadian MVPs in the Basketball, Hockey, and Baseball this year. They're taking over.
