The more I think about it, the more I think Jerry Lawler is a possibility. As far back as I can remember, Ross has been against the three man commentary team. Even when Bischoff first started appearing, and they Nitro'd up the commentary (relocating the table, etc) they never made the change to three man. No doubt a Lawler for Coachman trade off would be cheaper for WWE, and you really wouldn't lose much in the quality picture because I think Coach is at least the equal of the King by now if he hasn't surpassed him already.

No more of this "who I want to/think will be cut", kay?

That said, goddammit. I just hope that most of 'em can find good work. Should be able to.

I suppose what we can truly gather by reading between the lines is that Heat and Velocity really are gone for good. Seriously, the only reason to justify such a massive bloodletting is the simple fact that they don't have TV time for all these people anymore without the b-shows. The overwhelming majority of those cut are jobbers-to-the-stars, and Val Venis, Funaki and Stevie Richards are more than enough to fill that role on just RAW and Smackdown.

That said, I'm really only going to miss Charlie Haas and Spike Dudley, and the concept of a full-time Rockers reunion, though it would likely have sucked after a few weeks.

EDIT: And I just saw that they cut the Dudley Boyz! Man, I know I'm going to be in the minority here, but I've always hated the fucking Dudleyz! Between this and Mark Jindrak, my schadenfreude runneth over.

I wasn't able to get online all day. I finally do and see that 18 guys have lost their jobs, with possibly more to come. My god~!

Bubba Ray & D-Von Dudley -- Totally suprising. One of the few consistent acts in a dying tag division. It always seemed that Vince was a mark for the guys and I'm shocked that they have been let go.

Joy Giovanni -- One of the many faceless divas. I can't say I'm shocked at all.

Kenzo Suzuki -- I'm not too suprised as WWE seems to have given up on the guy ever since he and Rene lost the tag titles. Still, I thought Vince would give him one more shot.

Hiroko -- Well, if Kenzo's gone, she's gone, I guess.

Matt Morgan -- A great talker who may have been something special if given the oppurtunity. Alas, he got a stuttering gimmick and that's all. Suprised he didn't get another shot with a different character, considering his size and look.

Charlie Haas -- Very sad as the guy is extremely talented. But, ever since he and Shelton broke up he has been nothing but an afterthought.

Jackie Gayda -- Suprising since she's hot and all.

Marty Jannetty -- Sad he never got a chance to make his big comeback. Really, though, after the arrest I can't say I'm at all suprised.

Dawn Marie -- Can you fire a pregnant lady?

Mark Jindrak -- Not suprising, as he's done nothing to improve these past years.

Maven -- Somewhat suprising, but they fucked him up in his first match when he lost to Tazz and his feud with Benjamin earlier this year where he kept having horrible house-show matches sealed his fate.

Shannon Moore -- Sad, but not suprising.

James Yun (Akio) -- Look at Shannon Moore.

David Heath (Gangrel) -- Why they signed him in the first place is still a mystery.

Billy Kidman -- Somewhat suprising, but the moment he cut his hair all of his charisma was suddenly gone. And once he bulked up a lot of the stuff he did in the ring to get over was gone as well.

Spike Dudley -- Suprised he lasted as long as he did.

Kevin Fertig (Mordecai) -- I really thought WWE would give him another chance with a better character.

Well, this seems to be good news for the TNA X-Division, huh?

(Since someone already made the "being traded is the kiss of death" joke, let's move right along to my thoughts about each individual...)

The Dudley Boyz (Bubba and D-Von): What the fuck?! I'm very surprised by this.

Joy Giovanni: Pretty face, but not important to the company.

Kenzo Suzuki: Terrible wrestler so I'm told (never saw SD! while he was there). What's next?

M-M-M-M-Matt M-M-M-Morgan: Disappointed by this cut, as he had potential... he was simply stuck with a stupid fuckin' gimmick through no fault of his own. Given Vince's Big Man Fetish, I'm surprised by this cut, also.

Charlie Haas: Disappointed by this cut, but we should've seen the writing on the wall as soon as they started pairing him with Hardcore Fucking Holly (and why does that asshole still have a job)?

Jackie Gayda: Oh, c'mon, she was hot!

Marty Jannetty: Then why sign him in the first place, morons?

Dawn Marie: BOO! It's especially low-class to release her when she's pregnant. Isn't she married to Tommy Dreamer, or am I mixing my ECW alumni? If she is, I'd expect Dreamer to follow soon.

Mark Jindrak: They missed the chance a long time ago to pair him with his Natural Born Thrillers partner Sean O'Haire, in what was surprisingly a good tag-team. But by himself Jindrak sucks, so...

Maven: ...The hell? This is very surprising to me. Granted Maven wasn't a particularly good wrestler, but he was halfway decent compared to some of the stiffs still around. (Remind me why Viscera isn't on this list? Oh, right, because WWE is contractually obligated to give me my 15 Minutes of Crap every Monday night).

Shannon Moore: Color me not surprised-- they didn't seem to know what to do with him.

Akio: I'm a little more surprised by this than by the release of Moore, but he was getting very little time since splitting from Tajiri, so...

Gangrel: I actually knew he was on the roster, since I replied to that thread, but it was a dumb signing at the time, so it's a smart release now. Shame we won't see that entrance just once, though.

Billy Kidman: ...So... with Kidman gone, Mysterio in the U.S. and almost World Title hunt, you think there's any point in still having a cruiserweight belt?

Spike Dudley: This is bullshit. Spike's done absolutely everything WWE's asked of him, and sacrifices his body doing stuff that sane people wouldn't think about doing every time he makes an appearance on television.

Kevin Fertig: Guess they couldn't think of how to repackage him.

So, all these people (several of which have been busting their ass for this company in the recent past) are being released, and Brock Lesnar (who walked out of his goddamn contract before the Biggest Show Ever and thus ruined his finale match) is being re-hired? Fuck.

On the other hand, WWE is proving once again that they're very good at creating their own competition.

Don't forget that they still have to have enough guys to fill out house show cards, which will take at least about twenty guys. I'm not sure, but I'm under the impression that they're just clearing the dead weight and that they'll add enough new guys to get the roster back to the size that it was (think about how many guys they've brought in since Mania - MNM, Hearthrobs, Mexicools, and a few others in OVW).

Since he was arrested for a DUI recently and they figured that they didn't have much for him to do, I would assume that those factors led them to just cut their losses because he wasn't worth the hassle.

Absolutely. But that's besides the point. The WWE isn't technically firing anyone. When they do the bloodletting they just let their contracts run out. They're merely announcing that they will not be re-signing them when they run out again. They "say" that the wrestlers have been released, but they just won't be used again until their time is up.

Ah. I didn't realize that. Makes more sense (although if you can fire a pregnant woman it woulnd't matter anyway (for some reason I could SWEAR there were laws against it, but I might have just pulled it out of my ass).

I think that says it quite clearly: Don't mess with Jim Cornette! ;-)

I think it's interesting that guys who have had run-ins with Cornette (Dudleyz, Fertig) are getting cut, when in fact, talent coordinator Johnny Ace really doesn't like Cornette. I thought maybe Ace would keep these guys around just to bug ol' Corny.

I counted on the WWE site, still remaining there are roughly 55 male, in-ring talent bios for the Smackdown and Raw brands, not including some names given bios like Austin and Rock. That was including injured Van Dam, a couple others. Dudleys, etc are off the site. That seems like plenty for one show, maybe with Kazarian, a couple more new guys coming in/moving up, it will still be enough for two. And about Dawn Marie, she's one of the nicest individuals I've ever encountered, that one disappointed me but didn't surprise me.

According to a Wade Keller audio update on Torch's site, Bubba Ray Dudley made some sort of disparaging comment about Stephanie McMahon, so I guess the could answer some questions about the Dudleys' release.

I thought they could have done more with Matt Morgan, and several of the others, but I'm sure there was thought put into each and every release whether we liked it or not. I have tired already of seeing "Yah, he's gone," for this or that wrestler, said that before and saying it a final time. Some of the wrestlers, I think they tried every way possible to get them over and it just didn't work, hopefully all will land on their feet including the divas. TNA would seem like a stop, but wondering how much money they have for any new talent without having to release some of their own guys (and I like most of their roster as it is).

No you are correct. I believe most states and countries around the world have these laws. But as pointed out most smart bosses are using contracts. The only issue I feel Dawn Marie has if her contract finishes before she has the baby. There could be an out if the courts see pregnancy as akin to injuries. But the WWE can come back and say the job is a physical one and if you cant perform physical work you are not employable in the industry.

Beulah McGillicutty is married to Tommy Dreamer. As far as I know, Dawn Marie is still with Simon Diamond.

Actually in one of those "interesting only if you follow this kind of stuff" stories, Dawn was sleeping around with some guy behind Diamond's back, and is pregnant with that guys kid, so she and Simon broke up.

Well I certainly agree with you there. Plus, let's face it, Lesnar alone will probably make the company more money than this whole list of people being cut. That's probably more important to the WWE than anything else.

They could also just say that she's getting up there, and since they have 262 other women who are all having more time invested to them right now with different diva searches, matches, promotional stuff, and whatever else they want to say, they just don't need to renew hers.

She's legally an independant contractor, not an employee. It's a contract with a set time frame that keeps her employeed, not an "as long as you don't get fired or quit you will get a paycheck" agreement like 99% of us work by. When it expires, she's no longer employeed. That's it. There's no law that's going to force the WWE to sign someone to a contract simply because they got knocked up.

If a woman handled someone's business taxes for a two year contract, and then after those two years were up they wanted to go to someone else, that woman can't say "No. I got pregnant, so you have to make a new deal with me".

Why are people surprised that the Dudleys were canned I was expecting this since they first came to Smackdown. Why? Because they became incredibly boring.
