Positivity!

As usual, I was prepared to be horrified and insulted by the Eddie-Rey angle, but geez, I thought it was totally awesome. Eddie made that thing work, though special bonus points to Rey's kid for a game effort. Intimidating your rival by eating Twizzlers rules. I wish I could pull that off.

The Mexicools' promo was better last week, but it still wasn't bad or anything. And the Juan Deeres easily made up for any decline in quality. Plus Juvi declared himself to be The Juice -- what's not to like about that?

I like MNM, but has anyone noticed their act is just Melina doing a lot of talking and Johnny and Joey saying a couple of words in agreement? "I'm gonna kick Michelle McCool's ass!" "Yeah! Kick her ass!"

In order to get over, London has to grow a personality and also stop doing that stupid stomping, which is totally not cool. Also, the effect that fringe has when he jumps off the top rope is not worth how bad it looks when he's on the mat.

I wish they'd go back to the first promo a little and try to explain further that they are mocking the racial stereotypes.

They seem to be morphing into a slightly more edgy version of Eddie & Chavo's "Lie, Cheat & Steal" phase.

And at least Juvi broke out "The Juice" opening the possibility of a Rock confrontation.

Psychosis is REALLY creepy looking without the mask...creepy as in I wouldn't want him anywhere near my children...or looking at them for that matter.

I'd like to see them actually have a match now...as impressive as beating up London and Chavo is...it's been done. I'd also like to see Super Crazy in action as I've heard everyone talk him up, but never really saw much ECW.

As for the rest of the show...

I was pleasantly surprised that Christian wasn't immediately choke slammed out of the elimination match...but I will miss Tomko by his side.

The women's match was what it was...and probably burnt out a few thousand Tivo remotes.

And having Batista come over was kind of a forgone conclusion, not that I'm unhappy about it. If they had gone forward with a new Smackdown championship it would have muddied the title waters too much...but other than JBL who does he feud with? Benoit & Taker? Booker? Most of their top level big guys are faces.

I didn't even notice that it was only a 3 match show until someone mentioned. I guess I'm just used to WWE filling up my shows with promos at this point?

I'm sure I'm the only one on the entire board who isn't creaming over Eddie and Rey's work recently, mainly because the "we were as close as brothers and now we hate each other" storyline has only been done... oh I don't know, about 80 thousand times? Plus I've always found it too incredibly obvious that Rey's opponents are setting up for Rey's spots. I am fully aware that that's how wrestling works, and it happens with every wrestler, but it's always seemed so blatant and consistent to me with Rey, that it totally breaks the suspension of disbelief. The video package wasn't thrilling, but at least it's something different if you simply HAVE to keep these guys feuding against each other for another few months. I could have sworn someone said that last week was supposed to be the end of their feud?

Milena's fake breasts are so large as to be frightening. I say hire the diva contestant with the real chest. Not EVERY diva has to have a DD or larger cup size. If you're running around with an A cup or a small B cup, like Stacy Keibler or old Gail Kim, then sure... I can see how a boob job might enhance your ring attire choices... but Milena is way, way over the top.

I'm sure Juvi choice "the juice" because he is aware that most of us gringos can't pronounce his name, no matter how many times we hear it.

Teddy long completely knows how to blow any draft pick suspense (although Bischoff screwed the pooch with big show as well). The way you do a draft pick right, and the way they did it up to this point, is to let absolutely no clue as to who it is slip, and then let the suspense hang in the air for about 5-10 seconds before hitting the new draft pick's music. That's how you get the new draft picks over. Did WWE not see what that sort of thing did for Cena on raw?

Regardless, I think I'm gonna be eating crow on Christian in a few weeks. It looks like they may really be grooming him to be an edge/Benoit type, constantly orbiting the main event and having upper mid card matches and feuds.

Either Batista, Re-draft of Cena, or outside chance of HHH were the only draft picks that made sense for the final pick, given how late it was in the program, and having it come right after the elimination match. So I wasn't too surprised when Batista came out. I'm kinda sad that this means Cena will soon be jobbing to Trips though. Trip has already fulfilled his "One Job per year" contract stipulation at mania, and then thrown in two other jobs to Batista in following PPVs, so I think our normal HHH July -> February title run is inbound. *sigh* I say it's Flair's fault. If he'd only been world champion 10 times instead of 16, we wouldn't have to deal with this shit, Trips would already have caught him...

Well, the lovely Mrs. whatever and our kiddo were gone for the evening, so this is the first time I've actually gotten to watch SD in a long time.

Random thoughts:
Kudos to Daivari - he is a freaking awesome toady. His facial expression while applauding Hassan had me in stitches. He ate the chokeslam well, too. Hassan did a great job on the mic, and held his own in the end match.

Psycho Eddie rules. 'Nuff said.

The look on JBL's face during Booker's entrance gave me a chuckle.

Christian is destined for great things, if only for this one sign: UT no-sold a chairshot earlier in the evening, but Christian staggered him with his initial sucker-punch. Way to go! I also *loved* watching Christian try desperately to tag in when Booker & Benoit were down.

Overall, a good show.

Something just occurred to me. What is going to be done about the money-in-the-bank contract now? Does it now apply to cena's WWE title? Does it allow Edge to cross show "boundaries" and challenge Batista? Is he completely screwed?

It's not like WWE writers have forgotten about it. We haven't seen the briefcase in awhile, but the contract was mentioned/referenced as recently as 3 weeks ago I believe. I doubt they would completely ditch the angle. Sure WWE ditches angles left and right, but not usually one that's started at the biggest show of the year.

Since it appears that they are building towards Edge vs Kane AGAIN at summerslam, I would guess that we're not going to see it used, whatever it's current application, at SS. My best guess is that they're going to use it the way it really should be used, to guarantee edge a main event spot at wrestlemania 22. I know if I were edge, that's where I'd use it. It makes the most sense. The only drawback would be if he has to be part of a triple threat match for the world championship if the winner of the royal rumble challenges for the world championship.

I agree, the ME did play very well on TV -- that's a good thing! Indeed, the totally boring parts were during the commercial intervals -- unfortunate for live crowd but OK for TV. And Booker looked just fine throughout on TV too -- I'm thinking I've had that impression before. Interesting.

Regarding the relative poppiness -- Batista's was in the "way huge" category, but Christian's was definitely very strong. Especially since the Peeps were all busily scrambling for the signs that they'd stashed after the first half of the taping. :-) No doubt, there was a big push among the vox populi for Christian to win that match.

I couldn't see the "Juan Deere" detail from where I was -- that was good!

Not that this is my area of interest, but I believe there was one shot that made the Titantron, but got changed for TV Basically, it was a *prolonged* closeup of ... the booty shorts. Y'know how the highest-level performers just have a sixth sense of where the live camera is? Got quite a crowd reaction...

Thank you! Kind of a push which of the 2 gives a more comprehensible promo...

The briefcase was at Vengeance.
There hasn't been a RAW since Batista got drafted, so I'd presume that a Bischoff/Edge segment is gonna be on RAW saying whether or not the Money In the Bank shot will/can/is changed to a WWE Title shot.

I really have to think that it's not going to be changed to a WWE Title spot. I remember them saying that if Edge got drafted to Smackdown! (this was before the whole lottery started), that he would lose his shots.

Best verfication I can find for this came from Rajah (5/2/05):
"- Backstage, Edge is interviewed and we learn that he too is in the tournament despite already being guaranteed a title match. Edge brags about beating the so called toughest man in the WWE, Chris Benoit. Edge says that the reason he wants two title matches is because not even Batista can withstand two title matches against Edge…which sounds kind of funny because basically Edge is admitting that he’ll lose the first match I guess. He’s quickly reminded that a damper can be put on his plans if he’s drafted to Smackdown! later this month."

If that situation applys to Edge being drafted, why wouldn't it apply to the champion being drafted too.

But why I am worrying about what was said on TV two months ago? The writers obviously don't.

The thing is, after JBL, with whom does Batista feud?

1. Christian? I can't see them going that rout just yet. After all they both just came from RAW.

2. Hassan? It's waaaay too soon the thrust him into the World Title picture.

3. Eddie? A possibility after they whole Rey feud is kaput.

4. Orton? All signs point to this after Randy's feud with 'Taker is finished. After all, he still has something to settle with Big Dave.

As for Edge's Title shot, I'd imagine they'll just ignore that it was supposed to be a World Title shot. I read (from Meltzer, I do believe) the other day that John Cena vs. Edge was main eventing some Raw House Shows in the coming weeks. There's a while to go before the next Raw PPV (Summerslam), so I don't know if this is leading to something on TV, but I would guess that it is.

I actually think that Batista's next opponent should be Chris Benoit. I've been pushing for that since about May, but Batista was too busy with Triple H at the time. Benoit would have to turn heel, but he's the guy that could get the best matches out of Batista, and that will help Batista in the long run.

My vote is #4, it makes the most sense from a character and background point of view, and that's not even counting that Orton made a point of saying in some interview or other that it was Batista who sidelined him.

Then of course, there is always my dark horse candidate, Brock. If Brock DOES come back, there is no question that he and Batista will have a long drawn out feud, the only question is if they'll wait long enough to seem like brock isn't just being handed title shots immediatly upon his return.

It's gotta be Orton, because for one, that's how the depth chart flows, and for two, he's already set up a program with him in interviews, as The Skare Crow said.

I thought Eddie was going to be a perfect heel opponent for John Cena, but I think the champ switch hurts his chances of being a headliner heel on Smackdown, because a guy who's 5'7 trying to heel against a monster babyface is kind of a tough visual to make work.

Hassan is a failure in everything he's done and hopefully they'll quit while they're behind and not drag down anybody else like he already has Hogan, Austin, Michaels, Benoit, Benjamin, etc.

Christian got to be in a title match on PPV, even if it was second or third from the top, and on SD he'll have more room to stand out, so I think things are looking up for him, but for now I would anticipate he's going to be able to ascend into the Jericho spot of being underneath the top with consistent TV time and being in the mix without being one of the top two or three pushed guys. I think that'll work well for him and ideally he can continue to climb from there. Poor Tomko.

However, I agree with (Big) Steve. Before I would go to Batista vs. Orton, I would have Benoit turn heel on Batista. He's been flattened out since he dropped the belt last year, and he's about due for a turn. Plus he's the perfect next opponent for Rey Mysterio after the Eddie program.

I would keep Orton and Batista apart and tease the match for down the road, because Orton needs to get back on track to where he was in August '04 before he can be expected to headline a show. Beating the Undertaker would go a long way towards accomplishing that, but I still think Batista working with Benoit while Orton is going over people and becoming a strong challenger is the best course. (Unless you're one of those who thinks Orton has never been in a good match, given a good interview, or drawn heat. In which case, I dunno, I recommend trying to at least reconcile yourself to the idea of his existing, 'cause he's going to be around for a long, long while.)

Lesnar vs. Batista would be pretty damn great, but there's a lot of stuff that will still need to be hashed out before Brock is going to be back on TV any time soon. As bad as the match would've been, I'm actually kind of disappointed that they aren't going to do Batista vs. Big Show. They could've never had the matches that Lesnar and Show did, but the dynamic would've worked for the exact same reasons.

I think with they way they're building Eddie Guerrero as a psycho who will do ANYTHING to "win", he could be seen as a threat to Batista. Just really drive home the point that Eddie is smarter, faster and will go out to emotionally damage Batista.
