There is a heat machine waiting for Lesnar with arms wide open, it would be almost impossible to bring him down without it feeling completely wrong.
Even if Vince wants to "punish him" Lesnar will inevitably end up on top. If The Rock (for example) came back full-time, would there be a way in hell to KEEP him jobbing to Orton etc.?

Just putting my 50 cents in.

As for Lesnar, count me as one of those who would be happy to see him back on Smackdown.

You're not the only one that has heard that. I've heard it a few times, but I don't know the original source of it, so I have no idea whether or not it's true. But given that he's one of the top 10 stars in WWE history and he's never been brought back for a nostalgia run or even mentioned on TV, it would seem that there's some personal issue there between him and Vince. If anything, Vince has shown a willingness to let bygones be bygones if there's money to be made.

Which leads me to believe that Lesnar will be back soon enough. He's probably not feeling too good about his lawsuit's prospects, otherwise why would he show a willingness to come back? I'd imagine McMahon won't bring him back right away because there's no pressing need to have him right now, and then when he comes back he'll do a few jobs and when he "proves his loyalty" he'll go back to the way things were in 2002 and 2003.

The cynic inside me would say that Savage wasnt the only wrestler to have slept with Stephanie. HHH notwithstanding..so why was Savage blackballed so?

Wow, I haven't thought or heard of the Steph-Savage rumor in years, but here's the way I remember reading it back in the early days of the internet when the only wrestling site was Bob Ryder on Prodigy. Steph had just turned 18 and was pretty wild. She would frequently party with the wrestlers and at one point was forbidden by Vince to hang out with them. Of course she didn't listen, and was known for getting pretty sloshed. Anyways to make it short, Bam Bam Bigelow and Bundy knew Savage was doing her, and one of them told Linda. This was 94'ish I believe, I could be wrong. Yeah, this is really off topic...

I really don't get how people think what Brock did was so horrible that he will be so severely punished by the WWE.

Fact is that Austin left the company hanging on several occassions. When Brock left, he did the right thing. He went out in front of an entirely hostile crowd and did the job to Goldberg. While you can question his decision, he was at least professional about it, which is more than can be said for Austin, Lawler and others.

This guy didn't pull a Mike Awesome. he didn't jump to a rival promotion to try and put the hurt on Vince. He just said 'I'd rather try something else right now.'

Now Lesnar has been humbled and learned a lesson. If any of you think Vince is really going to job out a legit main eventer, you have no business sense at all.

And I'd love to see 'one of the boys' work stiff with Brock just to have his ass handed to him. I doubt Bob Holly will be stepping up to that plate. Maybe'll they'll nominate JBL for that. I'd enjoy seeing it.

For the record, I don't think that Brock will be "severly punished" if he comes back, but he did kind of burn the company when he walked out. Vince had invested a lot of time and effort into Project Lesnar, because he felt Brock could be the top guy in the company for the next decade. That's why he signed Brock to such a long contract in the first place. When Brock walked out, Vince was basically left without his top guy, and without any clear prospects (in his mind) as to who to replace him with, because all his time had been spent on building up Brock.

So then...for those who don't like JBL, could it be Brock's fault that JBL had the title for so long? :-)

I liked Brock during his run against Eddie; the entire Brock Sombrero thing was HILARIOUS...but I don't know that under the circumstances I'd want to see him back.

Vince wanted to try pro football out for HIMSELF just a few years ago -- and sunk vast quantities of time, moneys, resources, and energy into pro football -- so why in the world would he excessively punish Brock for doing the exact same thing?

(Oh, yeah -- because it's his company, he does what he wants, and griping about hypocrisy in pro wrestling is like whining about stained sheets in the porn industry. Gotcha)

That's a large logical leap to make. I know you thought it was very clever, but Vince did not leave anyone in a bind with the XFL but himself (and possibly Jesse Ventura), the WWE went on with business as usual without him. They didn't even lose the Mr. McMahon character. It's a completely different thing.

I will say that I have no problems with Brock's decision itself, he had a dream, he had money, he followed it and failed. But at the very least, I think he should have waited until AFTER Wrestlemania to say anything rather than kill his match with Goldberg. That was just bad business, and I'd expect there are more than a few people who are still sore about that, maybe moreso than the fact that one of their top guys shuffled off with little warning.

Didn't reports afterwards say that Brock went to Vince about leaving in late '03/early '04? Had the story not leaked 2-3 weeks before Mania, the match wouldn't have been killed. See, the internet *does* ruin wrestling.

The horrible thing that Lesnar did was leave the company on little notice after they had invested the last two years into building him up as the top guy on Smackdown. Not only that, but he left when they were also losing Goldberg, Big Show and Kurt Angle to injuries, and Smackdown had also lost Chris Benoit to Raw. Whether this is horrible to you or I is one thing, but I'll bet Vince was more than a little pissed that Lesnar left him high and dry. Not only that, but he really abad mouthed the business to the media, and I can almost guarantee that people have a long memory with regards to that.

Lesnar won't be punished long term if there's money to be made with him, but at the same time, he can't expect to come back with the same push that he got before he left. I can't say that I disagree with that.

McMahon used the money he generated off the sweat of WWE/F workers & sunk something like $50MM (maybe more?) into the XFL.

If he had reinvested the money into the WWE, imagine how BIG an impact that would've had with the company...

I think you can make a reasonable argument that the negative stigma of the WWE failing with the XFL, taking millions out of the company, and being put in a position where they have to fire employees left & right to offset losses & expenses was MUCH more damaging than anything Brock Lesnar did...

I've heard a rumour that SummerSlam 2004 may be held in Manchester, UK. Anyone shed any light? How far in advance do they announce PPV venues?
