....and the first shot across the bow gets fired by the Blazers and Jazz, as expected...and man oh man, even Blazers GM John Nash is capable of committing a felony:
Jazz get: #3 pick, Blazers get: #6, #27 and a 2006 1st rounder (formerly Detroit's 1st rounder from the Carlos Arroyo trade).
Plus most likely the player Portland was going to take at #3 (Greene) will still be there at #6.

I don't get thsi trade by Utah. Why throw in the #1 NEXT year in additon to the #6 and the #27 this year? Three #1 picks to move up three spots. Strange. But since it is with Portland, I am sure they will fuck thos epicks up anyway.

Well, it was Detroit's #1 pick originally, so it's essentially a #3 for a #6 and two #27s. One less first-round pick is one less guaranteed contract to give out, and if next year's draft class (minus high schoolers) is not deep the #27 pick could be as iffy as a mid-sceond-rounder.

Yup. Green could be gone by the 6th pick, so I could see Portland taking Frye at #6 if that happened. They can still get a decent 2/3 player at #27 (Gomes, Garcia).

Jiri Welsch to the Bucks for a 2006 second-round pick. Well poop, I was hoping for a pick this year. Eh, no big loss either way.

They've got ESPN's news guys on the public address system, which is one of the worst ideas I've ever seen. Particularly when you're talking about Stephen A. Smith and he's criticizing team's draft decisions, and "why didn't team x select player y, who won a national championship with North Carolina last year?" While all the while, player y is sitting in a chair with his hands covering his face praying to God that someone will draft him in the first round.
Boneheaded, boneheaded move by ESPN. Smacks far too much of a reality show for me. On the other hand, if player y fell through a trap door when he didn't get drafted, kind of a Russian Roulette sort of thing, it'd be more interesting. (So you can blame me when that actually happens. See, I aim to please.)

If Villanueva doesn't have his head up his ass, he has the ability to be the best player taken in the draft. Lakers take a high school center? No wonder they sent Jackson out to Montana for the draft. And, since it is late June, is it really safe for Jim Gray to let Kobe out of his sight? Last time Kobe didn't have Jimmy around, he went astray. Green drops to the Celtics at 18? If everything turns out perfectly, they have 2 young players in Jefferson and Green to build around. Now, time to dump salary cap burdens, bottom out, and when these guys are ready, have cap room to add quality players around them.
After having arguably their best season in years, in which they nearly made the playoffs and actually managed to come out with a better record than the Lakers, the Clippers manage to screw up yet again by taking a no-name Russian over Granger and Green.
It's tough being a Clippers fan. Oh well. At least they're not as bad as the Raptors.

1. The Bobcats are f'n lucky. They managed to get 2 guys from North Carolina. Since they're moving to a new arena I guess they want to put some asses in the seats.
2. Toronto's Rob Babcock is a total dumbass. Charlie Villanueva plays the same position Chris Bosh does and he picked this guy #7. Oy.
3. Boston cleaned up here. I'm amazed Gerald Green tumbled this far down the draft.
4. Hilarious moment of the draft: usually when the draft pick is selected, they walked on stage and wait for David Stern to greet them and shake his hand. When the Wolves drafted McCants, Stern was listening to Stephen A bash Rob Babcock or was asleep or something b/c McCants had to tap him on the shoulder to get his attention.
"The way I feel right now, I'd trade my mother if the right deal came along." -- Isiah Thomas.
Undoubtedly, the highlight was watching Chad Ford's head explode as he had to break down the picks. Anytime the draft analysis begins by slamming the #1 pick as a bad idea, it's only got to get better.
I thought Memphis did good to get Warrick; he has the potential to just take over games, plus it fills what will most likely be a hole for the team (Swift's leaving).
Wayne Simien, for the role Miami needs him to play, is a nice draft pick for them. Laettner most likely will not be back and Simien is a guy who can hit the open 15-footer and crash the boards/box out. That's just fine by me.

Wow, as an SEC fan I have to say that draft sucked for the SEC. Randolph Morris, Kelenna Azubuike, Matt Walsh, Anthony Roberson, Olu Famutimi, Kennedy Winston and Brandon Bass all left early and only Bass got drafted. And as a Gators fan I have to say this REALLY sucks. Obviously Lee was going to be gone cause he was a senior, and good riddance to Walsh, but Roberson carried us last year, we NEEDED him back with all the young players we have and now he's leaving, and it's all for nothing because he didn't get drafted. I know he's small, and not as good as someone like say Allen Iverson, but Earl Boykins plays a role on a team, why couldn't Anthony Roberson? Hopefully this is just like another Gator, Udonis Haslem, who went undrafted but then proved himself overseas and got signed the next year.
Maybe while Roberson is overseas maybe he can say hi to Christian Drejer.

I thought they did as well- when the time came, I figured they'd do one of two things- take Warrick (the second Orange player they've drafted, Moten being the other back in the day); or take a center from overseas (because they had success with Gasol coming over from Europe; and they need a center with Wright probably not coming back- actually, even if he did, they'd probably need an upgrade).

All I got to say is *F* those Knick fans that were booing the David Lee pick. Spike looked none too happy. I guarantee you they'll be pleasantly surprised when they see him play. They see him as just another white stiff, but he's a great athlete...He won the McDonalds dunk contest as a senior in high school.
I'm shocked nobody got Winston. I've heard his knee troubles have scared people away, but the kid is way too smooth to be playing in Europe or the NBDL. He'll get picked up and make some lucky team very happy.
I read a story about Matt Walsh and his family throwing some big party last night...inviting friends from all over the country. He was told that Miami would almost surely pick him with their late first round pick...I could hear the crickets chirping from here when the last pick was announced. How humiliating is that...

As a UK fan I'm about devastated about losing 'Buike and Morris (though according to posts on a UK message board there is an NCAA loophole for guys without agents who are undrafted that leaves the door cracked for Morris).
But, Quezzy, as a UK fan I'm "happier" to be rid of Walsh than Roberson. Walsh always seemed to give us the greater match-up problems, and his play definitely helped propel you guys to the big win in the SEC tourney.
I completely agree with Lee - I think he'll be a fine NBA player.
Great pickups for the Bobcats. Though with Paul, Felton, May, McCants, and Hodges there it shouldn't have been too hard to grab some ACC favorites. I'm not too sure about May in the NBA, but out of those last three, he's probably the best pick.

The question is...does Tubby let him come back considering the way Morris has handled this whole process?

There are supposedly reports that Tubby has already contacted Morris and that Morris has 3 days to enroll in summer classes. There are also reports that the staff is fed up with him and he isn't welcome back in Lexington. I get all of my UK info from a message board that has some fairly reliable (and connected) posters - but I simply have no clue with Morris. If I were in Tubby's shoes I would put it to a team vote, if the team didn't vote at least 80% to let him back, I wouldn't let him come back. Ultimately, I'd hate to make that decision.
I'm guessing that he'll probably try to latch on with an NBA summer league team, hit the NBDL and try to make a roster next year. But, I'm simply guessing here.
Is there anyway they can find a loophole to dump Raef (coughMichaelSmithIIcough) Lafrentz's contract while they are at it? If they can dump Baker's contract off the cap (still doubtful)
