smark/net attack Advisory System Status is: Elevated (Downgraded from High; April 4, 2005) Batista & John Cena represent instant upgrades over their predecessors as world champions. However, there's still a general state of backlash around Cena and a specific state over the way he won (however misguided it may be), and the usual tag/cruiserweight complaints persist. The rematches should be interesting, however...
Originally posted by Texas KellyAll I'll say is, there's a reason the announcers keep using the term "big three" in reference to the Spurs and not to the Pistons. Lalalalala...
Duncan, Ginobli and Parker were all drafted by the Spurs. Chauncey Billups, Richard Hamilton, Rasheed Wallace and Ben Wallace were all drafted by ...hmmm... not the Pistons.
So there's strike one against your "star collection" theory. Strike two is that Duncan, Ginobli and Parker happen to be pretty damn good team players. Tell me the next time you see one of them hijack the offense to do their own thing. Strike three is that the Spurs led the league in defense this year. Sounds like a real team to me.
On another note, let's say aliens come down and threaten to pulverize Earth unless one human can hit a 3-pointer. We've pretty much gotta choose Robert Horry, right?

Haha! That was fantastic. I really liked Bill Simmons' comments about Horry today, but I have to say that your quote was much more fun. Simmons was practically reverential, whereas this one had me laughing.
Of course, the chances of an Interplanetary Deathmatch version of HORSE are pretty slim. But it's always good to plan ahead.
Look, I know Robert Horry not only walks on water, but also cured polio and gives women multi-orgasmic tremors with nothing more than a glance.... I gathered that from yesterday's media blitz on Big Shot Bob.
However, this talking out of both sides of the mouth has to stop. Rasheed gets pulverized for leaving Horry wide open, but Horry is a frickin god for hitting a three with NO ONE WITHIN 15 FEET OF HIM. Yea. Horry excels in a game of HORSE. Whoopidee doo.
Regardless of how covered/defended Horry was for that last shot, the fact of the matter is that shot was Clutch with a capital CLUTCH.
Add that shot to the laundry list of other big clutch shots he's made over his career, and you have more than enough justification to call this mad a god. Rasheed isnt getting pulverized because he missed his defensive assignment, he's getting pulverized because he left the one man in this game, who is KNOWN for somehow always finding himself with the ball in the final seconds of close games and using his testicular fortitude to bury the high-pressure shots, wide open.
We're not talking about Brent Barry here, who I'm sure is a very fine shooter, but doesnt have the reputation of making big shots at the end of games that Robert Horry does.

I know you're upset because you love the Pistons and all, but let's not forget one thing about this:
RASHEED WAS TWENTY FEET AWAY FROM HORRY WHEN HE WAS INBOUNDING THE BALL, LEAVING HIM MORE OR LESS UNCOVERED ANYWAY!
Simmons threw 'Sheed under the bus for doubling down on Manu, but that was obviously the play, otherwise he would've been right up on Horry while he was inbounding the ball. Larry Brown blew that.

Well, then. I guess this lends credence to Texas Kelly's opinion that he likes Detroit as more of a TEAM than the Spurs, seeing as how they have 2 all-stars AND a god.
This also leads credence to the opinion I have that the idea that one organization having more superstars on it than another somehow makes them less of a TEAM is retarded anyway.

95-86 Pistons. It ain't over 'til the Pistons SAY it's over, bitches. "Big shot" Horry had a chance to cut it to a 4-point lead with 20 seconds left....and missed. But, don't worry, we won't hear anything about that tomorrow.
EDIT: By the way, San Antonio, FABULOUS job on scheduling the victory parade for Thursday. I'm guessing the attendance at that one will be around 0. For Thursday's game, might I suggest the mayor of SA call Rasheed's wife a nasty name? That oughta have about the same effect...
As a basketball fan, I LOVE this. While the first four weren't very good, these last two were fantastic. And now, the two best teams in the NBA, the last two NBA Champions at that, will play in the first Final Game 7 in 11 years. The Pistons hadn't beaten the Spurs in San Antonio in over 8 years before tonight. After getting smoked in Games 1 and 2 and getting shook in Game 5, the Pistons had to turn it up a notch and they did just that.
So bring it on. Game 7 Thursday. The title's (not just Sheed's belt) on the line.
EDIT:
While the better team did win that day, I still have bitterness towards that last Finals Game 7. :)

I'll go with Tony Bennett, thanks. *crickets chirping*

Big Shot Bob just gave him a brutal piledriver.
Rasheed just kicked out at two. :)
And I think Larry Brown just flopped over the turnbuckle. :-)

I know I'm two days after-the-fact, but I just saw this and have to say I'd still take Reggie.
Too hard to pick someone here. Spurs are usually excellent at home and it's hard to imagine them losing twice in a row there, but the Pistons have a lot more game 7 experience, play best when their backs are against the wall and have made it a habit of going against what people expect.
WILL THE PISTONS HULK UP? OR WILL RASHEED SCREW RASHEED?
*Edit*
Pistons shooting was awful and they had too much foul trouble, but they did ok I suppose. Spurs were much better tonight, mostly because Duncan finally had a really good game. Weird, entertaining series though.
No idea how the Pistons would do next year with Brown probably leaving.
My prediction was right number of games, wrong team. D'oh.
I think the NBA in general is a lot more fun than those Mourning/Hardaway days. The Heat are fun to watch, I love the Shaq/Wade combo as well Jones, Jones, and Haslem.
