As an old AWA fan, I've always dug the Road Warriors. When the AWA was in need of star power after the Hogan & company exodus, the Road Warriors exploded on the scene kicking ass.

I swung by Wal-Mart after work on Friday night about 2:00 am for some groceries and there it was for $17.99. I forgot it came out this week and I couldn't resist.

This set is incredible and a ton of fun.

The documentary is very well done covering:
-It tells the story of them growing up in Chicago and then Minneapolis
-Their dedication to sports and working out (body-building)
-Working together as bouncers in Minneapolis' toughest clubs
-Meeting and training with Eddie Sharkey (the class included Hawk, Animal, Rick Rude, Barry Darsow)
-Ole Anderson sending them to Georgia for their first big opportunity and the birth of the gimmick
-All of their stops from Georgia to the AWA to Crockett to WCW and to the WWF

All the important people are interviewed including Animal, Paul Ellering, Barry Darsow (fellow Minnesota trainee with Eddie Sharkey), Jim Ross, Micheal Hayes, Jim Cornette, Ric Flair, Tully Blanchard and Arn Anderson. The only thing not covered in detail is Animal's injury and his Llyods of London settlement. When Animal hurt his back, in order to collect on his insurance policy, he was not allowed to wrestle. This is the main reason why Hawk worked as a single and went to Japan and teamed with Kensuke Sasaki forming the Power Warriors. They kind of buried Hawk here, making it seem like he just abandoned Animal, but Animal couldn't work. But that's just a small issue near the end of a very well done production. They deal with Hawk's substance abuse and his recovery, including his Christianity and how he was a new man. The documentary was excellent.

The promos are gold!

The matches are fun with highlights for me being:

Scaffold match against the Midnight Express from Starrcade '86
This was a legit 25 feet high with an insane bump by Cornette when he blew both knees out

Tag Title match vs Arn Anderson & Tully Blanchard from Starrcade '87
Watching Arn and Tully's facials in this match are classic

AWA Tag Title match vs the Freebirds at the AWA Superclash '85 at Comiskey Park in Chicago
Awesome heat and biggest Chicago crowd ever drawn

This is a great set and is filled fun stuff. I give it the highest recommendation.

How much of the "LOD 2000" do they get into? Also, does PUKE make an appearance? Rocco?

They get into LOD 2000 as well as Droz (Puke). That section is mainly about Hawk's drug & alcohol problems, both in real life and in storylines.

One thing that interested me is that they interview Droz and he's really moving his upper body around a lot. For some reason, I thought his upper-body was paralyzed, but I guess it's just his lower-body. He looked great, so good for him.

The DVD is REALLY good. I can't say I'm a huge Road Warrior's fan, but the documentary was well-done and interesting, and the extras are quite fun. The WWE Home Video crew just keeps knocking 'em out of the park.

I'm a big LOD fan so I just HAD to get this at Wal-Mart when I was shopping for Father's Day gifts (picked the LOD DVD up along with the Newsradio DVD). Couple things stood out in the documentary part:

-Barry Darsow is a lot more soft-spoken than I expected- I wouldn't have even known he was a wrestler.
-They didn't discuss Rocco, though he was in a few shots with Paul Ellering. It wasn't a high point for LOD, but people not familiar with it were probably wondering what this supposed genius Ellering was doing with a dummy on his bike at SummerSlam.

I've got to agree that this DVD is worth every freaking penny. It has one of the better "bio" portion of any of teh WWE DVD's, and that's saying something.

Just finished writing a review of it, but the main thing that blew my away was the quality of the NWA-era matches, many of which I'd never had the chance to see before.

Again - just an awesome DVD set.

There's a lot of matches listed there, are they all full length or just cuts?

When I was a wee lad, I remember watching a show that had Dusty Rhodes getting his eye poked out by the Road Warriors. Since then, it seems he grew it back, but is there any chance that this is on the DVD?

Does anyone else even remember what I'm talking about? I'm thinking it was early eighties...

It was on the TBS NWA Saturday Night show. They didn't poke out his eye, but they did target it with one of their costume spikes. It happened right as my family ate dinner, and my dad changed tbe channel to Hee Haw. So, culturally, we were on the same plateau.

God bless the men of 2nd Bn, 127th Inf, 32d "Red Arrow" Brigade, WI Army Nat'l Guard...good luck, and come home soon.

Didn't that happen because new TBS managment had told booker Dusty Rhodes "no blood?" So Dusty got p*ssed and did the eye-spike dinnertime angle w/ the Road Warriors just so he could get fired and head north to the WWF...

...where he could wear yellow polkadots and clean toilets.

He did it 'cause he didn't think people could really tell the Dream what to do, but as it turns out they could.

Why did the DVD say the Road Warriors opponents for one match were "Mike Jackson and Stone," when the announcers clearly called them Jackson and "Tracy Store." Was "Stone his nickname or something?

And anyone know of any easter eggs on this set?

I wasn't ever really a Road Warriors fan, except for a few times when I saw them in the AWA waaaay back when. There was something about Hawk that I absolutely hated. I actually liked Animal, but I was about as interested in watching Hawk wrestle as I am in watching Andre the Giant, Sgt. Slaughter, Uncle Elmer, or David Arquette. I'm interested in the documentary but don't really care about any of the matches. I'd have paid, however, to see them beat the hell out of Dusty. And to see them get punked by the Powers of Pain. If only Vince would release a DVD set featuring the greatest tag-team of all time -- The Midnight Express...
