WOW.

All I can really say is that Bo kicked major ass tonight and he should win (just as Tom won Survivor) simply based on the fact that week after week he has been the most consistently good performer. While I have not always loved his song choices, I don't recall him ever hitting bad note and he always has a way of making you like a song you've never heard before. MAN, that accapella song he sang was haunting.

Vonz was okay--it's a shame that she doesn't pull off most balads very well. Her uptempo redeitions are usually spot-on. Simon (in Entertainment weekly) also noted that she has everything except a voice that is very distinctive. She really doesn't have a unique tone or quality to her voice that sets her apart from most other female singers.

Carrie had a strong performance, although--as Clive and Simon keep pointing out--she is SO STIFF. If she had Vonzelle's personality--she would have the makings of megastardom. I find her to be very bland although she obviosuly has a very powerful voice.

As it is, I don't really care which of the girls stays or goes--Bo has to seriously screw up to lose this IMO, unless I am underestimating the power of the country, conservative and God-fearing.

It sure seemed like Simon was trying to say that Carrie and Bo should be the finalists. It wasn't that we was directly throwing Vonzell under the bus, but he certainly was saying that he thought she was third place material. I have to agree. She's good, but unique and distinctive in any way. Bo should win and I think DrOp's comparing him to Survivor Tom is correct. All in all, there were no absolute clunkers of all the nine songs, though Bo's rendition of "Satisfaction" seemed kind of silly what with all the horns making it sound kind of Broadway-ish.

I wasn't wild about Bo's version of the Stones but otherwise he did have the strongest night.

Close your eyes and listen to Vonzell - she sounds like at least half a dozen singers out there - nothing inherently unique about her.

I thought the guy in the truck commercial sang that Shania song better than Carrie did but the judges and the crowd loved her. She will make a great country pop studio album but will never be the live performer that Country music seems to thrive on.

(Dang I'm criticl this morning - must need more coffee)

A very strong final 3 and any combo of 2 would work nicely but I think it will be Bo & Carrie with Bo taking it all.

Even her look is as boring and bland as all of the other ones.

Bo and Carrie are the finlists. I have been pulling for Carrie the whole way, but based on last night, Bo deserves the win. His BIGGEST problem is going to be overcoming expectations for next week. If he has a bad week next week on the biggest stage, he is in deep trouble regadless of who makes it to the next round.

I complained to another Liberal friend about some of the Left’s tone concerning the 2004 elections. I thought it insulting to hear those “red state” voters caricatured as red-necked rubes. My friend asked, “Well, don’t you think that people who live in large urban areas, who travel and read and speak other languages are better able to make informed choices?” It turns out it is superiority, not familiarity, which breeds contempt. - Pat Sajak

As Ebert said about Hayden Christensen in his review of Episode III, "to call Carrie's acting 'wooden' is an insult to puppets everywhere."
Bo will win, no doubt. I have been a true Carrie fan, but he really is outshining her at this point. She just looks so nervous and unnatural up there. I don't know what has happened - earlier in the competition, she seemed entirely confident.
And was it just me, or did those jeans Carrie wore for the Shania song really make her look pudgy? Has she put on a bunch of weight during the competition or were they just unflattering?
I keep wanting to think Carrie is sexy, but most of the time I imagine her being the kind of girl who would be all, "Ewww! Get that icky thing away from me!"

Well, it's Bo and Carrie. And my guess is it will be Bo. This is going to be pretty anti-climatic, that's for sure.

I'm not so sure. While I hope that Bo wins, Carrie seems to have a lot support. Simon was quoted in Entertainment Weekly as saying that a Bo-Carrie final would be closer than Reuben/Clay. We'll see.

I doesn't really matter who wins. Both of them are likely going to be incredibly wealthy here in a little while...

I hear that the American Idol recording contract is a bad contract (as if most record contracts aren't?). Anyone have any info on that?

This article dates to the Kelly Clarkson era of AI and it's worth noting that since then, Clay Aiken was able to get his contract voided and move to RCA. But this was the best illustration of AI's contract I could find. And even by first-contract industry standards, it's pretty crappy.

Wow, I didn't know that about Clay Aiken moving to RCA -- I assume that's why he hasn't released a second album?
