Gotta respect Jeter and all he does for that team. Him, Williams, Rivera and Martinez are the only Yankees this Mets fan will ever root for.
I think you're an asshole. No, no, let me correct that, an immature asshole. Which is fine, except that you're marrying my daughter and I'm afraid that my grandchildren are gonna be little assholes.

Let's not go crazy here. The Mets, afterall, are in same place the Yankees are (fourth), with a record only four games better. And if I right now had to bet money on one of the two making the playoffs, I'd STILL lay my money on the pinstripes.

With the difference being Beltran and Pedro were added to a team that was and is crappy (and will hopefully always be crappy) while the Yankees supposedly already had a good team.
It is really unfortunate I can't work up some really nice gloating about the Yankees when my Cubs are about as mediocre and lifeless.

On behalf of all petrified Red Sox fans...the Yankees have won three straight. Uh-oh.
"He is the most overrated piece of crap in the league. He bitched and whined after he got his ass beaten in New England last year, so the NFL changed the rules. Then he got his ass beaten in New England again. Every year he's the top MVP candidate. Every year he's supposed to be the best. Every year he's going to carry the Colts to the Super Bowl. And every single year he goes to New England and gets his ass beaten. And his brother's a whiny little bitch." -A friend of mine, on Peyton Manning

You see that's the thing; the Yankees are only struggling when held to this unworldly standard they've established for themselves. For any other franchise, being a few games under .500 in May would be nothing to worry about and for several, including the Mets, still being above .500 this late in the season is an accomplishment. Just because this team is not (yet) playing like the team it has been for the past decade does not mean they are flops or even "mediocre." If the Yanks are still struggling to see .500 on August 1, I'd say they're in trouble, but as it is I could never count this franchise out this early in the season.
That said, it would follow the recent Yankee Formula for them to be entering a drought. They were great for about 40 years nonstop from the Ruth/Gherig years all the way through Mantle and Dimaggio. Then, in the mid '60s, they came back to Earth for a while. By the late 70s/early 80s, they were great again, than back to being an ordinary team. By the mid 90s they were once again back in dynasty form, so maybe we're seeing the start of 10-15 years of Yankee struggles.

I think you're the only one who's petrified.

Plus, theyre outspending their nearest competitors by $70m, you know. One expects a return on that kind of investment.
I just looked in the OFFICIAL MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL RULEBOOK, and since they played the Mariners those games don't count in the streak, as they were exhibition games.
Boy, do the M's suck agayne!

Not only did they rattle those wins off against the M's, but also the Athletics, who have scored the fewest runs in the majors. Wake me when they can sweep Tampa. ;)

I'd enjoy the win streak, too, were I a Yankee fan. But I'd be wary of pronouncing them a good team based on their ability to beat this season's bottom feeders. Keep in mind also that they've played a disproportionate amount of home games this season.
Home games aside, the Yankees and Red Sox have played the exact same teams, with the exception of NY playing the Angels (who are 19-15) and the Sox playing the Tigers (who are 16-17). So, the "bottom feeders" line isnt quite accurate, when you consider the Yankees have played a slightly (very slightly) tougher schedule, and are only four games behind your beloved Sox.
And remember, the Cardinals were in about the same spot as the Yankees at this time last year and ended up with over 100 wins, it isnt like its impossible to do.
You really can't throw out the home games. Yanks have played 23 home games so far (2nd most in the majors) to Boston's 16. Plus factor in Schilling's absence for most of the season so far and Keith Foulke doing his best Heathcliff Slocumb imatation in some of his appearances, Sox would be in the playoffs again if the season ended today.
However, I have to agree with what you said here Stagger. When it's all said and done, I still think it will be Boston/NY as AL East Champs/Wild Card winner.

I'll admit I was wrong about Torre being gone by next weekend. Boston is in the same spot they were in last year record wise, and are very lucky to be there. As for the home games, I have no problem with Baltimore and New York having a 2-1 ratio of home to road games going into this weekend. I'd much rather have the 18 home games in September and 24 of the last 34 games of the season be at Fenway, so the disparity at Memorial Day will be a blessing.
