I should note that the Grizz came REALLY close to stealing one in Phoenix last night, but now it's looking like they're set to go down in 5, if not 4.

And I know a lot of people called it, but Dwayne Wade is completely playing circles around Vince Carter. The Canadians are rejoicing.

But how about 'Zo? Who knew HE still had a 20 point game in him?

The Sonics had the game well in hand, up 26 at the start of the the fourth quarter, and they started dicking around, plus Nate left Reggie Evans and Danny Fortson off the floor, so the Kings were getting every rebound and running. With NO starters on the floor (Adelman was essentially conceding defeat), the Kings cut the lead down to ten with five minutes to go, and Adelman LEAVES BIBBY AND PEJA ON THE BENCH! The Sonics had had their starters out there (mostly), so Bibby and Peja out there fresh would have had a chance to do some further damage, but he stuck with his bench guys, even though NO NBA coach leaves a lineup on the floor for an entire quarter, even when it's the starters. And OF COURSE the Kings started making mental lapses, a sign of fatigue, like tossing the ball away and taking quicker shots than necessary. If I were a Kings-fan I'd be PISSED.

Also, someone is REALLY going to overpay Jerome James this offseason based on how he's played this series. I didn't think the big guy had it in him, and I wish he'd play that way all the time, but I think he's going to be Mark Blount, part deux.

I understand your argument but it's one of those decisions in coaching thats going to be criticized no matter what. Say he puts in Peja and Bibby and they lose the game anyway he gets ripped for taking out the hot hands. He gambled and went with the momentum. I thought the same thing as you while watching the game but I understand why Adelman did what he did.

While slightly off topic I wanted to remark at how awesome I think the ESPN playoff ads are. If you can't get pumped for basketball after that I don't know what will do it for you. Does anyone know the what the music in the ad is?

Him doing his trademark RAHR RAHR FLEX pose on the baseline was good times. It's a little bit of taunt and grandstandning on Zo's part but as a fan I couldn't help being all YEAH YEAH about it.

Kiss the Nets (and possibly Jason Kidd's future in New Jersey) goodbye as the Nets have been swept right outta there.

Which is amazing since Shaq has been in foul trouble this game.

Well, I guess they'll havce a whole week to see Chicago and Washington kill each other and simply pick up the pieces in the next round.

EDIT:

Ray Allen dropped 45 on the Kings, and the Sonics came back from 19 down to win going away and take a 3-1 series lead, so you know what that means...

...only TWO more days of that ugly purplish background on CRZ's posts. Yippee!

EDITed to put an only slightly less ugly Sonics theme to this, as a test.

Well, the Kings and Sixers are officially goin' fishing.

Looks like Seattle has a date with San Antonio in Round 2 and might come crashing back down to earth.

And we're also a game away from Detroit/Indiana in the second round. It's not the same without Crazy Ron, yeah, but that might be the ratings draw this year.

AI had about 75 injuries last night. I really don't think he makes it past 35 in the league.

I'm not saying the Sonics are GOING to win, but they have a better chance than you think. Usually the team whose best player is playing the best will win a close series, and no one is playing better than Ray Allen. AND the Sonics can go a legit 9-deep with little fall-off (which KILLED the Kings, as Peja and Bibby were gassed in the fourth the last two games while Nick Collison tore them up), with four big men to run at Duncan. If they can get one of the first two games down there, look OUT.

(Yes, I've drunk the Kool-Aid. Plus the Sonics have been playing with house money for a long time already.)

JJD, I have to wonder what you enjoyed more; the Sonics coming back to get the win and take the series, or Luke Ridnour's RIDICULOUS "behind-the-back, hop, skip, and flip" pass to Lewis for the dunk. Watching the game with some friends, we all just went nuts.

That thing was SICK. Even Mrs. Freeze said that looked like something you'd see on one of those And1 Mixtape shows.

It happened while "American Idol" was on, and not during one of the commercial breaks, hence, I did not see it until later. It was quite awesome, however.

Luke Ridnour: From the mean streets of Blaine, Washington.

Also, during one the breaks in "Idol", Mrs. JJD (who HATES basketball) started swearing at me because she said she was going to have to start watching the playoffs now. SONICS FEVER, BA-BAY~!

Whoa, what a sweet comeback by the Bulls in tonight's Game 5 against Washington, only to have their hearts broken at the end. Wow.

I was at that game.

And yes, it broke my fucking heart. And sadly (for me at least), I can't see them putting up a fight in game 6. You could just feel the series snap on that shot.

I guess we owe basketball a couple of those after seeing Jordan kill so many teams like that.

Outside of the stupidity known as Chris Webber and the idiocy of the Knick team getting suspended for fighting in a blowout with a 3-1 series lead, Paul Pierce might have pulled the dumbest stunt I've ever seen on a playoff basketball court. Take the foul and actually hit 2 clutch free throws for a change, and the Celts might not have had to sweat out an Indy chance to win in regulation and overtime. What the fuck he was thinking, while already having one stupid technical in the game, throwing an elbow after he was fouled at center court? Did he think no one would notice? Celts won, so he'll slide on it, but had Boston lost, Pierce would never have played another game for the Celtics again in his career.
Have to say this though: Al Jefferson is going to be a very scary player in 2-3 years.

Dammit, the Pacers blew so many opportunities in that game, they just drove me crazy. But kept me on the edge of my seat the entire contest, so...

Game 7, Saturday. Miller Time!

Agreed - but Tinsley did a Vlade there. Regardless, their season shouldn't have to end that way.

I dig Al Jefferson, he's gonna be real good someday, but the kid got away with an obvious up-and-down in the middle of overtime that lead to a Toine three.

Man, that Celtics-Pacers game gave me chest pains ... I'm not excusing Pierce for that move at the end of regulation (he lost his cool when he shouldn't have, simple as that), but the more replays of the "incident" that I watched the more I was swayed towards Paul's side of the argument: Tinsley took a swipe at Paul's head and punched/scratched his ear (not saying it was intentional, but it still happened) and Paul used his arm to shove Tinsley away from him. Jamaal took the opportunity to give a five-star acting job and hit the deck like he'd been shot.

Again, Jamaal baited Paul into picking up another technical, and Paul shouldn't have been so stupid to fall for it ... Still, the "aftermath" looked a lot worse live than it did during subsequent viewings after the fact.

Oh, and if the league even THINKS of suspending Pierce for tomorrow night's game, then I just may have to stop watching future NBA contests altogether (even if the Celts end up winning Game Seven); Greg Anthony actually had the unmitigated GALL on SportsCenter this morning to call what Pierce did a "punch", and that is just so far from the truth (pun intended) as to be laughable ...

P.S. Where's a pic of Pierce wearing that weird contraption over his ear from last night's press conference? That was comedy GOLD right there!

Pierce did nothing wrong. Sure, he should know better, since the refs are gonna be watching him closer than most players, but that was a totally pathetic flop by whats-his-name on Indiana. If he didn't dive to the floor, you would have barely noticed Pierce did anything. He just threw his arm back there as kind of a "let go of me" swipe. It didn't look like a strike of any kind, let alone a PUNCH. The NBA is full of wussies and actors who know how to milk the dumb refs. Kind of makes me wish Vince went into the XBA instead of XFL. These ridiculous prissy calls happen almost every game.

Wow, you seem awfully pissed off considering the Celtics won that game. And I guarantee you any player worth his salt (particularly knowing that Pierce, the Celtics' best player, already had a technical) would have done exactly the same damn thing. And if he didn't, he's an idiot.

It would have been ridiculous if Pierce had gotten suspended, no question. And he didn't actually commit what I'd consider an act of violence against Jamaal. But having said that... he knows he's got a technical, he knows that he could just go to the line and ice that game. The only chance we had was to get Pierce out somehow, and that's exactly what we did. So, with all due respect, your indignation about Jamaal's flop would be a lot more interesting to me if it weren't quite so covered in crap.

I don't even think the Celtics won Game 6 so much as we lost it, making some astonishingly bone-headed plays when we had so many opportunities to win the game.

But we ended up winning Game 7, and the series, so I won't complain too much about that. Bring on the champions!

BOSTON (AP) -- The Indiana Pacers stamped their signature on the deciding game of their series with the Celtics, slowing the pace, keeping Reggie Miller's career alive and ending Boston's season with a blowout.

The Pacers won Game 7 of their first-round series 97-70 Saturday night to prolong a season marked by suspensions, injuries and disharmony. Now the team that has overcome all that moves on to a meeting with their biggest rivals -- the defending champion Detroit Pistons -- in the Eastern Conference semifinals starting Monday night.

It'll be a rematch between the teams that took part in an ugly brawl that spilled into the stands during an early-season game at The Palace in Auburn Hills. The suspensions from that fight could have resulted in the Pacers giving up on their season, but that has clearly not been the case.

East Round 2:
Miami/DC and, of course, Detroit/Indy.
