If you were a WWF fan in the '80s, and you didn't mark out teenage-girl style for this promo, then I just don't know what to tell you.

I was all over this, and hoped it was gonna be good when Shawn dismissed Coach. Then he brought out Hogan, but Gene was the topper. That was IT. GENE UBER ALLES. Gene takes his place between them, offers the simple encapsulation, puts his hand behind his back, and asks, "your thoughts." And I was grinning like a child.

All the yapping online about Shawn and his smile and his faith versus booking and his unwillingness to put over the new guys clean. It meant NOTHING when Gene walked onscreen. And Shawn capped it off by flexing his arm, gasping when Hogan ripped the shirt and then unsuccessfully trying to rip his own. Even Mrs. Tracker was yelling "WHATCHA GONNA DO" before Hogan started talking.

Screw being a smart-ass cynic. That was FUN.

Christian was incredible in his roles tonight. From telling The Nature Boy how it is, to his live promo, to apologizing to Nature Boy, to getting ready for the match itself, he just rocked. I really hope this becomes part of a trend, either or Raw or SmackDown post-draft.

I actually dug the Trishera stuff. Sure, it was similar to the Mark Henry-Chyna skits from years ago, but it at least served a purpose and helped build up an otherwise awful matchup. Plus, Sexual Viscera actually showed some charisma there, which he's never really had the chance to do before (unless you count rapping as part of M.O.M.).

I know there's been some criticism that the show continues to revolve around Triple H, but they had to do a hard-sell for the Backlash main event. If you make HHH seem unimportant then it makes ordering Backlash that much less necessary.

The one thing that really bothered me this week: Batista hugging and palling around with JR. This has to stop now! It's one thing for him to assist Ross last week as part of the Triple H feud, but for him to be patting him on the neck (and who knows where else), it makes Batista look weak. And is pandering to the British crowd was so lame, it was almost Cenaesque in its delivery. Go back to squashing people and saying next to nothing. Nuff said.

(And jwrestle: I didn't catch the Torch commercial, but if it's for that Russo-Ferrara DVD (I'm just assuming), I would HIGHLY recommend it.)

I don't think he was saying he didn't like it ... just guessing that it was taped in America. I assumed the same thing, actually.

Looks like HBK is having a blast with this program, though. At first I thought he was subtlely mocking Hogan (especially with his "what ARE you gonna do?" remarks last night) but I think he's just having a helluva good time basking in the glory of Hulkamania. lol.

Yeah, I wasn't trying to say anything about the origina poster. I was actually agreeing with him that it was great, and adding my own comment, directed towards the rest of the board.

No matter how ripped Batista gets, or how many times he hugs Triple H's father, or how many lines of dialogue he cribs from cool movies, he'll never be Rock.

If they don't have HBK superkick Hogan during a posedown to set up their last "Dream Match" with Hogan that didn't get done the first time around, they are throwing away a license to print money.

I think they need to change Batista's wardrobe. Pink ties on coral shirts under gray jackets are bad enough, but his look still smacks of Evolution when he needs his own identity. I do not like the week-spanning JR [dirty term for intimate oral gratification] as it takes the heat away from Big Dave, and this spot could easily have gone to Hurricane to build off his mini-angle with Triple H. Why put over the announcer when you could put over in-ring talent?

Christian owned the crowd and did a great job with the significant workload tonight.

Fun moment when HBK couldn't tear his shirt a la Hogan.

It wa a fun two hours, but there's no way in hell I'm buying the PPV. It's just too small after WrestleMania.

If you consider*:

1. Christian was the only one of the MITB contestants to get that "Wrestlemania Lights Treatment" in the promos, and

2. They used those same treatments in the HHH/Batista II match, and

3. Christian has been calling out Cena for the last couple of weeks, and

4. Christian being in like three straight segments this week, including an awesome in-ring promo,

it looks like he could be moving up the ladder, and moving to SmackDown! to feud with Cena. Or at least I hope so.

*By "consider", I mean "probably read too much into things".

The only wrinkle I'd point out is, it's not really the style of "Creative" to get someone good and hot...and then have that character switch brands. I'd say their past MO would make ...oh, say, Chris Jericho the most likely to switch brands, but even he has the mitigating circumstance that they probably wouldn't want to have both interview segments on the same show. Hmmm, Carlito to RAW for Jericho? Nah... conflicts with my first sentence.

(Of course, if this DOES happen, I'll be sure to let you all know what a freakin' genius I am by quoting this later)

I'll eat my hat if Hassan and Daivari don't win the tag titles next week to get their heat back after the somewhat inevitable loss to Hogan/HBK.

It is good to see Christian get a push, but hopefully he isn't the only RAW name being sent to Smackdown in the draft. It would be better if an established main eventer (i.e. Orton, Jericho, even Edge) were sent over as well just so there isn't a repeat of last year's midcard players being dumped on the 'B' show. A Smackdown year of Cena feuding with Christian, Orton, heel Eddie and maybe heel Y2J would be pretty sweet.

So there I am, in Sri Lanka, formerly Ceylon, at about 3 o'clock in the morning, looking for one thousand brown M&Ms to fill a brandy glass, or Ozzy wouldn't go on stage that night. So, Jeff Beck pops his head 'round the door, and mentions there's a little sweets shop on the edge of town. So - we go. And - it's closed. So there's me, and Keith Moon, and David Crosby, breaking into that little sweets shop, eh. Well, instead of a guard dog, they've got this bloody great big Bengal tiger. I managed to take out the tiger with a can of mace, but the shopkeeper and his son... that's a different story altogether. I had to beat them to death with their own shoes. Nasty business, really, but sure enough I got the M&Ms, and Ozzy went on stage and did a great show.--- Del Preston

I'd be curious to see what Christian does without Tomko as thug. I assume both won't be drafted, if either one is.

Exactly. It seems so obvious that they'd put Christian on SmackDown, and yet... I won't be surprised when it doesn't happen.

I figured Batista was only doing that so he could just twist the knife a little more in Triple-H's back and to continue to rub it in his face about his "loss" to J.R.

Late Random Raw Thoughts:

-Christian was top-notch. It wouldn't hurt him to stay on Raw for another year, due to the fact that there's plenty of nice new feuds he hasn't gotten into yet...Maybe one more feud with Edge wouldn't hurt either.

-Mean Gene was born to be a backstage announcer...For the love of God, I would love it if they brought him back full-time. The guy's voice or looks haven't aged a bit.

-The backstage segments for the show were probably the most entertaining in a couple years. Viscera is reminding me of a nice combination of Mark Henry and Dean Malenko.

-I'm sorry but I have to agree with Coach...Batista cuddling up with JR was just pathetic there. JR is a 50+ year old man, not some 5 year old that just got beaten up by a bully. To be honest, they really need to work on Batista's mic work in general.

I've been waiting for someone to comment about Batista starting to get up following the pedigree, only to have the camera cut away to another HHH pose. When next seen, Batista is laying face up on the mat, eyes wide open.

Can't they learn to keep them closed when they're supposed to be incapacitated?

I think the point of them showing Batista slowly getting up was to show that he fell back down, showing that he couldn't just get up that easily after the Pedigree. HHH was also in that shot so we could see him watching Batista struggle to get back up and then smirk when Batista fell back down to the mat. Then, HHH went to his posing over the conquered "Animal".

This will assuredly lead to HHH hitting the Pedigree at Backlash with the announcers proclaiming him the new champ and then being SHOCKED when Batista kicks out and makes his comeback.

I agree they are crazy not to go with Michaels vs. Hogan, as it could get extra buys for a throw-away PPV. However, Michaels vs. Hogan isn't a print money match. Austin vs. Hogan in either '02 or '03 would have been money printed out of Titan Towers for Vince, but egos got in the way of that.

Batista dresses like a bouncer at the cool hot spot who proclaims you must dress at least this trendy to get in. I think he might actually dress that way in real life when out of character.

The writers are having fun creating Trish/Viscera scenes, so this feud isn't ending any time soon. It would be interesting to see Trish sleep her way through the lockerroom trying to find protection. Of course, the 'net would be crying out for her to run eventually into the arms of Edge followed by a double turn angle. Then again, if Vince Russo were still writing, he'd give Trish the "once you go black, you never go back" gimmick leading to an IC fued for Viscera when she sends him after Shelton Benjamin after he disses her.

Speaking of Benjamin, since it didn't happen this week, I hope that either a PPV result occurs that allows Benjamin to come on the next Raw using Y2J in the "____ Is Crap" song as a response to "Shelton Benjamin Is a Little Bitch."

If Christian does get drafted to Smackdown, would Tomko fit in as part of a revamped Evolution? I would not be surprised to see the WWE see if they can strike gold twice and give Tomko the "metrosexual big man in the background who eventually gets over by being cool" gimick.

For the Masterlock challenge, is there some wrestling legend accepting it who would make people mark out, even knowing that he's going to get squashed? Hey, how about we have Hassan/Daivairi actually beat Hogan/HBK, setting up the return of the Rockers in a tag title food, then feed Masters to Hogan on his way back to OVW?

They've been protecting Benoit mightily for a while. Is Edge going to win? If he wins, is he going to be made to look strong or will his victory look like a fluke?

Knowing that RAW was in England, I had myself almost entirely convinced that William Regal would come out and break the Masterlock in seconds.

But, in retrospect, that would have involved Regal actually winning something during an WWE show in England. So I guess I should have known better.

This Michaels-Jericho feud has lost a bit of its steam. HBK seems to have gone back to his usual self, focusing his promo on winning the world title, not on destroying Jericho or citing all of the past pain he's caused him.
