The Cubs are being killed by injuries. Between Nomah, Wood and Prior, this team that should be good on paper is just not able to get everyone gelling at the same moment.
So there I am, in Sri Lanka, formerly Ceylon, at about 3 o'clock in the morning, looking for one thousand brown M&Ms to fill a brandy glass, or Ozzy wouldn't go on stage that night. So, Jeff Beck pops his head 'round the door, and mentions there's a little sweets shop on the edge of town. So - we go. And - it's closed. So there's me, and Keith Moon, and David Crosby, breaking into that little sweets shop, eh. Well, instead of a guard dog, they've got this bloody great big Bengal tiger. I managed to take out the tiger with a can of mace, but the shopkeeper and his son... that's a different story altogether. I had to beat them to death with their own shoes. Nasty business, really, but sure enough I got the M&Ms, and Ozzy went on stage and did a great show.--- Del Preston

Prior is fine - as he said he was at the end of spring training. I don't think Wood ever will be "fine" again, since his mechanics seem to have become so screwed up. He's adjusted his motion so many times to account for one ailment or another that he has no idea where "correct" is on his mechanics.
As for Nomar, what can you do? Replace him with some one else and hope that they can hit well.
Oh yes, Neifi will definitely have no problem living up to the sub .200 avg Nomar was sporting. Maybe if we combine him and Macias, we might have a .300 hitter this year.

And has 3 hits in 17 ABs the past 4 games. Neifi hate represent!
I'm hitting .367 total in MVP Baseball 2005 with the Cubs (a roster that does not include Neifi OR Macias, mind you), so I win, sort of, in a nerdy, loser sort of way.
But seriously, I realize Dusty can work wonders with washed out, mediocre players, but I just don't feel even he can make Neifi into what passes for a hitter all season. I hope I'm wrong, as he will be around all season, but I'd just like to see other options used when Walker/Nomar come back.

Back to Nomar. Somebody besides the Boston Lunatic Bob Ryan needs to bring up the S Word when it comes to Nomar. 234 games missed due to injury in the past 4 years. Seemingly slow recovery time to every injury. This injury was a fluke and a painful fluke at that. Torn off the bone. Ouch. Ouch. Ouch.

With a 7-2 home victory over the Minnesota Twins, the AL East-leading Tampa Bay Rays officially clinched the first playoff berth in the 11-year history of the franchise.
