I'll tell you one thing, if I were a soccer player, I'd play in the USA exclusively. European fans are just nuts.

Perhaps the next time a sports broadcaster calls the Auburn Hills incident "the worst thing I've ever seen in sports," they'll sit back, look at what happens in overseas soccer matches, and put the whole thing into perspective.

The difference between the two incidents is that the soccer players didn't haul off into the crowd and start beating on people. In sports, the actions of the fans are one thing, and the actions of the players are something else entirely.

That said, soccer fans are nuts. A flaming scooter? Who thinks of this crap?

Now THAT'S passion.

I can just see the fans preparing for the game:

"You know, there may be a couple of calls by the referee that we're going to disagree with. What can we set on fire and throw?"

That's because the players know their chances of survival wouldn't be that great in such a situation. I've got the Juventus vs. Liverpool match saved to watch, don't know if anything happened there, but it was at Juventus (in Turin, Italy) so I'm sure folks were nervous and security was everywhere.

There's also the recent incident of the crazy Lazio fans, who chanted Nazi slogans during a recent game....about five minutes after a tribute to the Pope was held in the stadium.

So there I am, in Sri Lanka, formerly Ceylon, at about 3 o'clock in the morning, looking for one thousand brown M&Ms to fill a brandy glass, or Ozzy wouldn't go on stage that night. So, Jeff Beck pops his head 'round the door, and mentions there's a little sweets shop on the edge of town. So - we go. And - it's closed. So there's me, and Keith Moon, and David Crosby, breaking into that little sweets shop, eh. Well, instead of a guard dog, they've got this bloody great big Bengal tiger. I managed to take out the tiger with a can of mace, but the shopkeeper and his son... that's a different story altogether. I had to beat them to death with their own shoes. Nasty business, really, but sure enough I got the M&Ms, and Ozzy went on stage and did a great show.--- Del Preston

Yeah, Big Bad reminded me - was this most recent incident a result of the racial thing that is going on in European Soccer?

Story from AP here... Takeru Kobayashi barely beat his own hot dog-eating record but BARELY beat Joey Chestnut in doing it. Chestnut was completely hyped -- and lived up to it. Whether it eats (HA!)
