Looks like T.O. is being a bitch once again ... Now he wants more money from Philly ... Yeah, sure I know the guy is a big reason that they went to the Super Bowl last season, but c'mon ... you're already making some mondo-bank ...

It's people like T.O. that give professional sports a bad rep.

I'd also say that the Eagles are in some big trouble lately.

T.O.'s being T.O.

Brian Westbrook supposedly hasn't signed his tender offer yet.

Corey Simon's supposedly asked out of his Franchise tag.

Hollis Thomas is going to hold out, as well.

Sure, they've got their reputation as a pretty good team, business wise, but I'd find it odd if every one of those problems remedied themselves before the season starts. Apparently, T.O.'s cap hit if traded is like 1.3 million (I don't understand how, but that's what people are saying), but who is McNabb going to throw to then? They'd then need an impact WR again.

If they lose both Corey Simon and Hollis Thomas, they've got Sam Rayburn and Darwin Walker inside on Defense. A pretty good tandem (I love Rayburn), but with the crazy Jim Johnson rotation, that means that Paul Grasmanis and God knows who else will also be in there.

I'd like to see T.O. stick around, of course. I'm not sure what he's hoping to accomplish by bashing McNabb, however.

Dunno. TO sounds pretty mild compared to the stuff that's coming out of Freddie Mitchell these days ...

After reading the tidbit from Sportsline this morning, I actually think I understand where he is coming from. I mean really, he does have a point in that he is one of the top receivers in the game today, so why shouldn't he be paid like it? Likewise, his point about contract status is true as well - in the NFL, you can be cut at any time because the contracts are non-guaranteed. The only guaranteed money is the signing bonus, which is prorated over the length of the contract (hence the weird cap hit numbers, etc.). So why not take advantage and try to make your family set for life, and make money while you can?

Overall, it appears he signed this previous deal just to get out of San Fran and avoid Baltimore, and now he wants to take advantage of the situation, especially given what he contributed to the team last year. Only thing I would caution is that if he wants any other tools around him to win more games, then he *might* want to ease up on the ol' team payroll there. Yes, the whole "me, me, me" attitude bothers me, but lets face it, there's tons of money going around and I don't fault someone for grabbing at some more if the opportunity is there.

T.O.'s cap hit is so low because the majority of the Bonus he recieved last year was a roster bonus. Teams like the Eagles who have plenty of cap space use roster bonuses so that the cap hit in future years is lessened. The enire roster bonus counts against the cap in the year it is awarded rather than being prorated like a signing bonus.

The Vikings did the same thing last year with a CB, name excapes me right now. The player got a small signing bonus and a huge roster bonus. It threw the whole franchise number for CB's out of wack since his cap hit was so high.

T.O.'s contract was structured as to give the Eagles an out should he not work out in the 1st 2 years. He is due another roster bonus next year. It seams to me he is saying he wants that now rather than waiting.

My guess is the Eagles will hold firm this year and if things work out T.O. will get restructured next year so the Roster bonus is converted to signing bonus so it can be prorated. If things don't work out T.O. will get released and finally get his wish of being on the open market.

And if TO had just sucked it up and played in SF last year, he'd have been an un-restricted free agent a month and a half ago. Maybe he should have looked a little more long term than he did.

I understand he's trying to get the best for him, but it is a team game, after all.

I don't think there's a cat in hell's chance that TO's moving. He was just gonna get stoopid money as far as salary cap hits go in the last 3 years so he and his agent are probably well aware the Eagles would have released/traded him before he had a chance to get his paws on the cash. All that I see happening is the deal being restructured so that he gets a bit more of the money from the later years as guaranteed over the next season or so.

Simon I can live without. Good young tackle, but I'd take a second rounder for him which apparently is what we're pitching for. Thomas I'd like to see back though, but his injury history might mean we don't try too hard. To be honest even if Simon signs on another year I see us taking a DT high in the draft as a long term replacement/rotational guy for next year. We've done pretty well drafting a year in advance lately (Brown, Sheppard etc). In fact you could argue the worst of our high draft picks of late was McDougle, who allegedly was meant to be able to make an immediate impact in his first season. I know he's had injuries and all but quite what he's meant to have eludes me.

Westbrook's a tough one. I think he's a great guy to have around, and arguably he's the best receiver in the league from the backfield. I don't see him ever becoming a regular 1,000 yard rusher though, and again he has a history with injuries. If he's looking to get himself the sort of money the top backs in the league are pulling, then I reckon he might be looking for a while.

Heehee, Philly getting screwed, and gonna be championship-less again this year... all because they took a gamble on someone who's a known money-grubbing, me-first bastard. If it'd been me, I would've said "to heck with T.O." and waited a year to see if you could pry away Marvin Harrison from the Colts, or get another very good wide receiver.

Instead, TO hath screwed ya, like he screwed the Niners and the Ravens.

I'd rather spread that kind of money out on some solid receivers that fit into the structure of the system, like ... well ... the Patriots. Granted they might not all perform, but at least all your eggs aren't in one basket.

This just doesn't look good for the team if this thing drags on like it very well could, and who says the free agent wide receiver market is all that hot anyway? Plaxico Burress found it to be rather chilly, granted he's a grade lower than TO, but his rep is nowhere near TO's. Plus free spenders like the Raiders have their receivers, I don't see him ever going to Dallas after disgracing the Star. Who knows what a team like Miami or Washington might do, but really there isn't a lot of demand for a single minded big play maker. I don't think the free market would be as kind to TO as he might think. He probably would have been better off playing baseball, if this is his approach every year.

Putting Bears @ Packers on Christmas is really putting a crimp in my plans to finally make a pilgrimage to Lambeau (my brother is a Bears fan). I was counting on it being the opening game (although I recognized that the Saints were the other possibility).
