I'm trying to fix a friend's computer and have run into this problem. I've tried googling a solution but haven't run across anything relevant.
Basically she's able to connect to the local LAN and she can connect to various peer to peer programs but connecting to the web or anything that uses HTTP (i.e symantec live update) is not possible. Any ideas on how I could proceed with trying to fix this?
Thanks for the link. Norton wasn't able to fix anything so far, so I'm just curious if anyone has any ideas on what I can try to get her on the internet again.
If this *is* the case, hopefully there's an ISP support line you can call to get them to talk you through fixing your DNS server settings...or someone will post the relevant Microsoft Knowledge Base link right after they read this. :)

Thanks all. That seems like it is it. I'll try it out when she gets home and hopefully it'll work out.
----------------------------------------------------------- Addition. Okay, I learn more and more everyday that just don't know as much about computers as I think I do. I went to the MS Knowledge Base, I read the link posted by AWA and I'm completely lost.
If i need to I'll call the ISP support line, but they've never been especially helpful so I wanted to exhaust my W options first.
The DNS issue has been confirmed. The computer can get to numbered addresses but not named domains. None of the DNS settings seem to be different than on my computer so I don't think they were changed. Also I don't know if it makes a difference. But i've hooked up my computer to the same internet connection through a router and while mine works hers doesn't. Since both comps are set to detect DNS settings automatically off DHCP, I'm completly lost.
If anyone has any ideas on what else I should look for to get closer to resolving the issue I'd really appreciate hearing them.
Okay, I really need some help here. I can only get to the ESPN Fantasy Games site if I am not signed into my account. Once I sign in, I get the page cannot be displayed message. What am I missing?
