I disagree on that as the husband is not mentioned at all in the bill, and to say that this is "punishes his rights" seems a bit of a stretch. Sure, it restricts his perceived rights as a husband but it does not exact punishment on him for anything.

I don't think that that is a valid point considering that none of the judges ruled for the GOP in this case.
ok - Florida's Department of Children and Families is now involved...one would think that *they* would have better, or more pressing issues* than this to deal with...
* by pressing I'm talking everyday issues that are royally messed up, due to this agency going out of their way to be as useless as...jeez. Too many analogies - insert your own. I like "tits on a boar hog"...or maybe "a broke dick". But whatever. The credibility of the DCF is on par with Gordon Liddy and twice as corrupt. It's like the Schindler's are going out of their way to hang with the wrong crowd to suit their selfish needs.
"Misinformation", as mentioned earlier in this thread, is 100% accurate. EVERYONE is coming out of the woodwork on this, proving Andy Warhol right (again), claiming tales of cruelty and murder conspiracy, with quack doctors attempting to rationalize the term "brain dead". "She can be rehabilitated". To do what? Stare at that fucking balloon for the rest of her life? Her parents are on RECORD stating that multiple amputations are acceptable, so long as they "have their little girl." FOX news continues to undermine any credibility they have left...
Motherfucker - right now is a clip of Jeb Bush - he found some hack from THE MAYO (hold the pickle) CLINIC, saying "she has hope" - "Terri is not permanently in a vegetative state". Mind you, he did this without even EXAMINING HER, but by looking at the same video clips, good lord...I should have been a Doctor. Easy like Sunday Morning, just gimme a diploma and I'll recite the oath. Look at the brain scan, you dope. And to hell with me for voting for Jeb Bush - he seemed perfectly normal and semi-coherent at the BBQ. Joke is on me...
Re: Politics - hopefully this issue (non-issue) puts to rest the fear of "The Christian Right" taking over this country; sleep well tonight. For all their saber rattling, they can't trump the Constitution. And that goes both ways - if the Democrats had a majority right now, the hot (non) issue would not be "Save Terri", but "Let Larry and Gary Marry". Whoa...that sounds like a soundbyte, but it's true. It's all a matter of perspective combined with who is in charge and in a position to promote their agenda. Luckily we (well, some of us) are easily distracted by the issue dujor. Why is this case national news all of the sudden? This has been going on for years and may well have been a done deal if Jeb would have kept his mouth shut 2 years ago - he passed a law that was declared unconstitutional then, and basically the same judgment that is going on now.
It's a bummer that Congress is getting involved...the whole lot of them (left and right) are showing their asses with 1) The Indecency Hearings 2) Baseball and 3) now this...crowing about non-issues like a gang of coked up peacocks while gas is $2 a gallon for suckers that yell: "Hey! It costed ME $40 to fill the tank! Let's go to the Hospice and protest Stern, Steroids and The Right to Life!" I don't know which is worse - career politicians who couldn't find ONE JUDGE to pay off to "go with the program" or the Citizens of America be led around by the nose. Again.
The only way this ends is when she dies. Which will be in vain, so to speak - no one cares, really. Just another Elian...a pawn in a game that exists on alleged human emotion and gullibility. Problem is - accountability: the media will continue to beat bullshit like this into our skulls until we wake up. Which will be never. Some jerk right now is talking about "starvation is a brutal death". Well, goddamn - not if you are brain dead it ain't. If people didn't have so much of a hangup about letting people die with dignity (and on their own terms), this girl would have been given an injection a long time ago.
Oh yeah - Terri Schiavo. You think the God fearing crowd, or sympathetic crowd, would have the decency to let her "go" to the place everyone claims is there. There is selfish and self serving, and then there are her parents, who need a picture in Webster right next to the definition. They want her kept alive for *them*, not *her*...if that is not 100% obvious, then so be it - as far as the husband, as mentioned, he has rejected several large sums of money to "get lost"...I'm tempted to drive over and start yelling 'WHERE IS THE MIRACLE!WHERE IS YOUR GOD?!?!" to the "protesters", but why? They claim there is a "better place" but fight tooth and nail that no one goes without "being called". "Terri - this is God...tell them schmucks to get bent and come home" - no, that crowd would never go for nonsense like that. Demonstrations are a drag. Besides, we're much too high
"Quality of Life" - that's the key. She has none. She is not retarded, or suffering form a form of palsy, or crippled, etc. The girl is brain dead, no hope, nothing doing. Her quality of life is limited to staring into space aimlessly while her parents yell at her, repeatedly, to pay attention - while her brain functions on no level at all as her pitiful groans are played on a sick loop for our benefit
Moral of the Story - get a Living Will. And don't pay a lawyer $300 to do it. The right forms can be found at Staples and can be "Publicly Notarized" by...well, probably your Aunt. Everyone is a Public Notary these days. But that it is still valid in court. Just make sure the verbiage reads "brain dead" and not "a broken leg" - or else you'll be taken out back and shot like a gimp horse while your beneficiary laughs all the way to the bank

Yeah, it is. And we have no idea whether or not she is feeling the pain of the starvation, whether she knows what it is or not.

I agree, except we only have the word of a man who has already started another family whether it would have been on her own terms.

A mother and father fighting to try to keep their daughter "alive"? Hardly selfish and self serving. Misguided, maybe, but tell any parents they have a chioce of trying to keep their daughter alive or starving her to death without trying anything, and I bet most choose to fight.

If he takes the money, how does that look? He already has gotten a large sum of money, and, again, has another family he's started.

But she will have died ONLY because she can't feed herself. Add in everything else wrong with her, PLUS the ability to swallow food, and she lives.

Absolutely. And sign the donor card. Now.

The point isn't the judges in this case. The point is that "activist judges" pale in comparison to the absolute farce this has become. I really don't have the slightest clue what in the hell the GOP is thinking on this one.
Originally posted by Cnn.com WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The U.S. Supreme Court on Thursday rejected an appeal by the parents of Terri Schiavo to have their severely brain-damaged daughter's feeding tube reinserted.
The court, without comment, refused to intervene after the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals twice Wednesday turned down a plea from the parents, Bob and Mary Schindler.
Justice Anthony Kennedy, who is responsible for emergency appeals from the 11th Circuit, signed the ruling.
The 11th Circuit, based in Atlanta, Georgia, includes Florida, where Terri Schiavo lives in a hospice.
Kennedy referred the appeal to the other eight justices, who declined to get involved.
It was the fifth time the case has been presented to the Supreme Court, which has consistently refused to hear it.
Most recently, on Friday, lawyers for the House of Representatives filed an appeal asking the justices to intervene in the case. The appeal was denied without comment...
I couldn't get past the first paragraph. If anyone reads that whole thing, they should get an award. I DO know that he doesn't think she should be kept alive.
What got me was a picture in the Sun-Times today of a young woman being arrested for trying to bring a cup of water to Schiavo. She did know that doing that would have killed Terry, right?

It's a lot easier (and kind of fun!) when you skim and try not to think too hard about it. Hell, the man even had a point which I hadn't taken into consideration:
Originally posted by The Warrior! Her family telling me he has withheld therapy from Terry is sorry ass. If he did, that’s abominable. But if it was my child and I believed more concentrated therapy would help, I’d find a way to pay or learn how to do it myself, and it wouldn’t take me fifteen years. I haven’t heard that her family has been prohibited from seeing her or being with her. And if she, different from the credible medical analysis it seems, has the potential to rebuild her cognitive abilities, show me -- again, especially after 15 years -- more than the same 10 seconds of footage over and over of her trailgazing a balloon. If it’s your argument that more therapy would bring her out of the state she is in, help me out, tell me where you have been for fifteen years and why there is no progress to show for it.
Obviously her family is still permitted to see her, as we keep hearing them describe Terri's starvation. I haven't heard anything about Michael trying to "Block" the Schindlers from attempting any type of therapy. Hell, I haven't even heard any of the testimony on what kind of therapy these doctors the Schindlers keep getting would recommend. What have these people been doing for the past fifteen years?
At this point we can once again thank "The Daily Show" for context and perspective.
And for taking **THE MEDIA** to task for talking to John Edward, the bullshit charlatan who claims he can talk to the dead and made up some more crap about what she's going through.
(Incidentally, that was Fox News, but anyone who would do something that butt stupid deserves to get the back of a media watchdog's hand)

Originally posted by APJennifer Johnson, barefoot and in her pajamas, ran to her grandfather's bedside once a hospice worker said his death was moments away. She got there — one minute too late. Johnson said the chaos outside the hospice where Terri Schiavo is dying kept her from saying goodbye.
"They've taken away hospice's greatest quality, that it is peaceful and serene and quiet and calming — and it's not fair," Johnson said.
Both sides should take it elsewhere; find a neutral ground to go at each other -- but when other families who are grieving don't get a chance because of extremists on both sides... to me -- that's unacceptable.
Sadly, I was wrong about the parents throwing in the towel, as they've filed another petition that is pretty much the same as the previous ones that have been rejected.
Those protestors piss me off. This doesn't concern them. FOXNew actually showed a telling clip:
Protestor: Terri Schiavo has not been given due process!
Random Guy: The parents have been defeated in court over twenty times.

I just don't understand this. They let Charles DeLay die a month after his accident. If you believe that your family can decide within a month whether or not he's ever coming back, you'd certainly think that Schaivo would be able to tell after 180 months.
You'll need to be a New York Times Member to read the article, but the opening paragraph pretty much sums it up:
WASHINGTON, March 28 - The parents of Terri Schiavo have authorized a conservative direct-mailing firm to sell a list of their financial supporters, making it likely that thousands of strangers moved by her plight will receive a steady stream of solicitations from anti-abortion and conservative groups.
CNN has it on their breaking news the Schiavo has died, no link as of yet.
I hope this is the end of this and the woman is allowed to rest in peace. But I have a fealing the courts will see this again in the form of wrongful death lawsuites.

Dirt, I would say most social conservatives know they are being used, but where else are they going to go? The Dems won't give them anything. The Libertarians are against a lot of their positions.
