Courtney Brown signed a 1-year deal with the Broncos, with an option for 5 years. Now the Broncos have both Brown and Gerard Warren on their defensive line for the coming year. They have given Trevor Pryce permission to seek a trade.

If you are a Denver fan, have fun watching the opposition run roughshod through your line, especially when CB gets injured and Warren gives up caring.

Don't you have to care at some point in order to give up caring?

At the rate the Broncos are signing first round busts, Mike Mamula (SP?) has got to be expecting a call any time now.

Does it seem scary to any of you that the only ones making seemingly smart moves in the AFC West are the Chargers?

And now it gets better - The Broncos have traded Ruben Droughns to the Browns for Ebenezer Ekuban and Mike Myers.

That line is just getting softer and softer! Almost makes me wish the Browns were playing the Broncos this year. I also gotta think that this means Willie Green is getting released. Too bad they couldn't swing a trade for him, but now with Droughns and Suggs, that should take care of the RB situation.

The new Broncos (and ex-Browns) defensive line coach is certainly having a huge say in these DL acquisitions. That's the only way I can explain it.

So much for Shanahan having totalitarian rule over personnel moves.

It's about time someone else made some decisions - I like Shanahan but he has made some real questionable moves in the post Elway era. Droughns was a pleasant surprise last year but he ran out of steam and I think Tatum Bell will make us all forget Droughns' name by week 3

If they run Bell like they ran Droughns, he'll probably run out of steam too. The Broncos really lean on the run to help anchor their offense. It makes more sense to keep the backs you have and just pound pound pound the ball on the ground. Having just one man be your anchor is asking for trouble, especially in the AFC West where both Oakland and KC would like nothing better than to knock the Broncos out of the playoffs.

Good God, remember when Shanahan ran Droughns 38 times in that blowout win at Oakland last season? It was a fucking blowout, yet GENIUS MAN still insisted on running him, and I think it's because he wanted Droughns to match Portis' carry total for that same day. If that wasn't a sign he lost his mind then I don't know what was.

I don't see the controversy in that one. When you're up in a blowout, you run the ball. It was wet weather as well, another reason to run. At the time, Quentin Griffin was injured, Tatum Bell was either inactive or still on the injured list and Cecil Sapp was still on the practice squad. Droughns was pretty much the only guy available to hand-off to, and this was before his fumble problems arose. Not as ridiculous as, say, being up 38-10 in the fourth and throwing the ball on first down (see: Dick Vermeil and Trent Green in the second Broncos-Chiefs game).

The signing of Ron Dayne may be a pretty good indication that Shanahan is on his last few brain cells.....

Ron Dayne, Gerard Warren and Courtney Brown. Who's next? Tony Mandarich? Todd Marinovich? I hear Tim Couch is looking for work. Of course, as a Browns fan, I know what's going to happen. Brown, Warren and Ebenezer Ekuban are going to turn into Warren Sapp, Reggie White and Bruce Smith, just because they're now playing for the Broncos.

Nah, this is just Shanahan proving he can turn ANYONE into a 1000-yard rusher. Next season, he picks up converted QB Drew Bledsoe after Parcells decides Henson's as good as he'll ever get.

If history has shown us anything, it has shown us that Bronco RB's have success and then get injured opening up the door for the next. That said, I think that Julius Jones has more of an upside in the next 2 years than Tatum Bell.
