Kentucky won't destroy Utah (they haven't destroyed anyone this year), but I'm hopeful that they will take care of business. But, I think that the 'Cats can handle Duke - that is if Duke can best Michigan State. The 'Cats go 13 deep and have some serious - albeit young - talent in the back court. I think they can wear dUKe down. With that said, I hope that Villanova or NC State come out of the Syracuse region, UNC spanked the 'Cats earlier this year and I just don't see the 'Cats prevailing if they meet in the final 4 either.

I think Louisville will win their bracket, they were dissed with a 4 seed, but I think they were in a bracket with some overseeded competition. It just fired them up.

I think that Utah is the team left in Duke's bracket that would actually give them the most trouble because of Bogut. UK is really really good _ watch out when Rajon Rando and Randolph Morris actually figure out what they're doing _ but has a tendency to be a little boneheaded from time to time.

I picked Illinois before the tournament started. I still think that's a pretty good pick, but the way UNC has played so far has me thinking that they may be real close to unstoppable.

I can't be the only one, however, who is absolutely SALIVATING over the fact that we could have a Louisville-UK national championship. I might just have to make a road trip back to Old Kentucky for that one.

You'd make a trip back to Old Kentucky to watch a game that'd take place in Missouri? OK.

The atmosphere for that game would be incredible in the Commonwealth. Granted, St. Louis would be optimal, but watching that game at a sports bar anywhere in Kentucky would be a pretty incredible.

Hey, the part of Kentucky that my family is from isn't far from Missouri, so shut up. What I meant was that it would be freakin' wild to be someplace near the UK campus for that game.

The only reason I'm watching that game tonight is because this little state has nothing to better to talk about. Heck, even state politics, everything is on the back burner for this game. Also, I don't want to be out of the dicussion loop tommorrow if they win.

I hope that prediction is right Freeway...

Now (five minutes or so before tip-off) is probably as good a time as any to GUARANTEE a Washington victory over Louisville. No way they're losing.

EDIT: ...unless they get into HORRID foul trouble in the first half and let Louisville run by their press in the second. DAMMIT! Oh well, great season by the Huskies.

You know, one more win and the state of West Virginia will simply be a smoldering pile of slag between Ohio and Virginia. (You mean moreso than usual? RIMSHOT)

Ahhhhh, Hubris. The Pac-10 is a One Team Conference, Donchaknow?

Attaboy Salim!

Dear Lute - I know your guys hit those shots all the time, but when EVERY PLAYER ON YOUR TEAM settles for another fifteen foot jumper it gives me a heart attack. This Arizona team is just so weird. We *could* shoot threes. We *could* pound the glass. Or we could just rattle off a billion ugly jump shots. If this team wins the Championship I will EAT A SANDWICH.

Having just repeatedly driven through that lovely state, you gave me a great laugh.

Damn, West Virginia and Arizona just KILLED my bracket dead tonight. Now I have to root for UNC and *shudder* Duke. Come on, let's get 3 of 4!

And Duke just got bounced. Sadly, UNC got a bit lucky tonight... it looked like they slipped into ACC tourney mode for most of that game, then got bailed out by officiating in the last minute. 'Nova should've won. Am I being bitter? You better believe it.

After last night, I have no respect for this Nova team. If the travelling was a bad call (couldn't really tell - way too loud in the bar at that point) it makes up for the half a dozen random touch fouls called on UNC while Nova was busy throwing their bodies around the court all night. But what really got to me was the offensive foul called on Felton for his fifth. Two Carolina players and a Nova player near the halfcourt line and suddenly the Nova player flops to the ground. What. The. Hell. The foul didn't look like anything but a good bit of overacting to me, and I was pissed that Felton was gone, but I didn't do anything except shout "Bullshit" once and glare at the tv. Until Nova goes to have a conference with their coach while Carolina adjusts their now depleted lineup. Directly after that on the next Carolina possesion, there are not one, not two, but THREE Nova players flopping on the floor while standing nearby motionless Tar Heels. The refs didn't call a single one, but any thoughts that the Felton flop was legit are completely pushed from my mind. Just completely unbelievable bullshit from Nova and their coach, and I am extremely happy that they didn't win that game.

Anyway, done ranting against Villanova. Can't wait to watch Arizona tonight and Carolina tomorrow.

I'm thinking anywhere outside the Snyder if you're in Blue and inside the Snyder if you're in Red. There's a BW3s near us that I have watched game from before. That's my spot for the finals if IT happens.

It's my wife's birthday on finals night. Think she'd understand?

Dear Fighting Illini,

Perhaps Coach Weber hasn't mentioned this, but there are 40 minutes in a basketball game. While I appreciate the fact you like to make it interesting by waiting until the last 2:44 to play, it would greatly improve my cardiac health if you would not let yourself have to make up 15 point deficits in under 3 minutes.

Thank You,
spf

In all of my life, I've never seen a team shoot like West Viginia did today. Coaching error for them was not going for a 3 on the last possession of regulation. One of the key reasons they lost was there shooting 2's when they were shooting a lights out percentage on 3's. Think some Louisville fans were pissed at the missed dunk when OT went into garbage time, keeping the score at 8 when the number was 8 1/2? And, it would have been some irony if Pitino was knocked out by a team that couldn't miss a 3. Oh well, Providence in '87 remains the worst team to reach a Final Four in the 64-65 team error, and damn it, that is something to be proud enough. Proud enough to sing a tune: Duda, Duda.
As for the second game: 15 point lead, 4 minutes to go. That is garbage time. This choke job by Arizona tops the Duke choke against Kentucky in the regional finals of '98 as the worst collapse in college basketball history, factoring in score, time and significance of game. Hell, all Arizona had to do was hold the ball. They shoot over 75% from the line. Don't turn it over, there is no way that Illinois can win the game. But, since I now have the possiblity of 3 teams in the Final Four in one of my pools, and the other team being from a broken bracket, I'd like to thank Lute and the boys for the collapse. Now, if only Corey Wright had hit the buzzer shot at the end of regulation of the regional finals in '97, this would only be the second worst collapse by Arizona in the regional final. But, Gillen had to put Koifi Pointer in in overtime, I had to confront Gillen in a parking lot on campus 7 months later etc. etc.

This Carolina team is scary-good. I don't think they could un-gel enough at this point to lose another Santa Clara game.
