Don't know how many of you played the game, but if you did, and you felt the ending was...lacking...you were right (forums.obsidianent.com) (thanks Penny Arcade (penny-arcade.com)). Seems that huge swaths of scenes were cut (including one in which Kreia wastes your entire party) and one in which Atton sacrifices himself to save the PC) in addition to the scenes that were cut early in development (the entire Droid World) and scenes that were cut but were oddly referanced in the game (the HK factory, Bao-Dur's death, the final confrontation between the remote and G0T0). I'm not sure this applies to X-Boxers, but the dialog from all these scenes is still in the PC discs and is quite well done.
On one hand, I can understand if it was cut because some of it seems heavy handed (Sion's maiming of Atton in the light side version) but even then, it's handled well. Plus it seems like it was cut due to the fact that they couldn't get animation done before the Christmas 2004 deadline.
It sucks to see something like this where they were on the verge of doing something really great and then had to lop it off (the only other game I've checked out that had such huge sections removed but still contained the data for was the old SpyCraft game which cut out the entire "evil" half of the game). I'd love it if Obsidian or LucasArts or even some fan modder would piece this all together and come up with an extended cut of the game (as mods did with the original Kotor's last level), but I'm not holding my breath.

I'm about, I think, halfway through the game for the first time and I've already been confused by some dialogue that references things that I haven't done or seen. Since I'm usually fairly thorough in my play, I was guessing that some stuff had been cut without rewriting all of the dialogue trees. It's good, I guess, to know that it wasn't just me but it annoys me that that Obsidian, who really should know better considering the history of their principals, released a game that wasn't done or was so poorly redone. It doesn't fill me with confidence for the alleged Baldur's Gate 3 that Obsidian is supposed to be developing in conjunction with Bioware.

There was an entire alternate senario in the sound files, in which the Russian Mafia hires you to put out a hit on the new Russian President. The path to getting there is actually still in the game (a spy tries to convince you to loot the American embassy for them, but there is no way to beat the senario, as even if you complete it you are gassed). The dialog and mission briefings are fun to listen to, and it would've been neat to play but they probably didn't want to release a "turncoat agent simulator" especially not when the CIA was loaning them info and tools.

You had my hopes up with the thread title, you bastard. I thought there was a director's cut on the way. That ending was incrediby lacking. Not only the things that never happened, but the things that were referenced, or just "sort of happened." (Bao-Dur and his remote especially). Hell, who piloted the ship to pick up the PC? How did Mira get back to the ship (since Kreia tells you she lives)? Highly disappointing. The only video game I can compare it to is the old "Jaws" for the NES.
Also, have you found a better program than the free Miles player to listen to those sound clips?
I always did think that scene was weird. From what I remember, there's no spoken dialogue when you get in the truck to get gassed.....it was like a two second thrown together death scene in an otherwise very well put together game. Now I guess I know why

Well, if you believe the rumors floating around now, Obsidian is begging LucasArts to let them patch the game to quell the negative press they're getting (from some of the same people who gave them "RPG of the Year" awards, mind) and a while back put out a "Patch Announcement." So it COULD be a content patch, especially since we don't know how much of the stuff that didn't make the game was already animated but cut because it too heavily referanced a part that wasn't. They have enough models of the characters involved in the story that they could probably get some things together in time for a content patch this summer.

Common consensus (at least that I've read that makes sense) seems to be that, were the Atton sequences where he died cannonical, then it would have to have been T3-M4 or Canderous, neither of whom were shown or referanced to be in any sort of debilitating state.

Not yet, no. I think this puts LA in a tough spot here, because the demand for some sort of patch is getting out of control some places, but if they patch it they can't patch it for X-Box (since KOTOR isn't Live Compatable), and those fans would be pissed off if only PC players got to see the "alternate" endings and scenes. Also, they're in the tough spot of making Revan and the exile the main characters (or at least major characters) of KOTOR III, thus having to program in a crapload of those alternate dialog options, which I'm sure the voice actors loooove.

I really liked the game, just wrapped it up playing a dark character..nothing beats being a 'small cute girl' that turns wicked evil. I would have liked it if it had a darker ending. Reveal a bit more about Revan and such..I mean..this was the big threat? Kinda disappointing. It does leave options open for a part 3 though.
As for the cut stuff. Very interesting. The game itself was great. but this would have made it awesome. (I liked the powers/gameplay better than part 1)
I have to agree the game play was great they had some great new features. But the story was not nearly as great as the first. When I first got kotor (the first one I beat it like 4 or 5 different times) when I got the second one I only have beat it once (very evilly) and I just don’t have the urge to beat it again. Anyway, the director should be fired. Bioware needs to take back over for kotor 3.
I don't blame Obsidian, personally. Weren't they rushed to get this thing out before christmas, at least with the Xbox version? A lot of the story and especially the character development in the first half was really quite fascinating. Given another few months to really nail it all down KotOR2 could've surpassed the original handily.
