It's not time for the NCAA tournament yet, or even the conference tournaments and yet there was A LOT going on this weekend.
#10 Washington upset by Stanford #8 Oklahoma State upset by Texas #7 Kansas upset by Missouri #6 Duke beat by #2 North Carolina #3 KENTUCKY UPSET BY FLORIDA (WOO!) #1 Illinois upset by Ohio State
6 of the top 10 went down, all except for one of them being upsets. I think we're in for a great March.
Is anybody else tired of hearing Digger Phelps whine about how Notre Dame should get in the tournament?? Face it Digger, they're out...Looks like Maryland is toast too.

There are many, many threads devoted to Digger at the UK message boards today (which are in and of themselves fairly humorous).
I'm wondering if BC managed to lose a 2 seed with their loss today.

Normally, this wouldn't register on my radar, except for the fact that a certain Terps fan happened to belittle my beloved Wolverines' run in the NIT last year IN THIS VERY THREAD!
Originally posted by the Terps fan in questionI don't think the Terps know the meaning of NIT :)

Not only did BC blow their 2 seed, but they also lost the chance to play half an hour from home in "scenic" Worcester, and will probably end up in Boise instead. The door in the East is now open to a UCONN Worcester-Syracuse path to St. Louis. On Notre Dame: You lose to Rutgers in a must win, you don't deserve to go to the NIT. Same goes for Maryland against Clemson. Tim Welsh 1-7 all time in the Big East Tourney, 0-2 all time in the NCAA Tourney. Fortunately for Timmy and the local media that performs daily fellatio upon him, he won't lose many Big East Tourney games in the future. Of course, this is more due to Providence won't be finishing in the Top 12 in the Big East for the foreseeable future rather than any coaching epiphany for the mental pigmy that has been at Providence for 7 years. Raise my ticket prices 30% with a returning all-American, go under .500, and the day after the season ends send me a mailing looking for donations to the alumni fund. Don't think they'll be getting a check for the foreseeable future.
Along the lines of "NIT", UW Milwaukee students were seen wearing shirts that say Marquette NIT (Not In Tournament) this week. Marquette has long refused to play "little brother" UWM in basketball. Since UWM has been on this upswing over the last few years, the theory that Marquette has nothing to gain by playing them is no longer true.
Well, I wouldn't say that Maryland is out of it yet. I know, they suck and they don't deserve to be in the tournament. I know that I'm a huge homer. But in all honesty, with an objective eye, I don't see how UCLA is a lock and how Notre Dame might get in but Maryland doesn't. Hell, people were still talking about Indiana (worse record in a worse conference) possibly getting a bid before they got blown out versus Minnesota. I think that the two wins against Duke still carry A LOT of weight because those low bubble teams (ND, Georgetown, New Mexico) don't have anything like those two wins. I don't know, I guess I'm just setting myself up for a disappointment come Sunday night.
Yeah I watched my hometown Blazers nearly pull off the upset against Louisville, I was going crazy during that series of plays where they scored and forced a turnover twice on the inbounds pass, that pressing defense is a pain. They really needed that win though they just don't have any big wins, they could've used a win over a top 10 team, plus if they would've won that game then they would've gotten the 7 seed in the Finals and could've just one themselves a spot in the tournament. I don't think they are going to get in now, but who knows a lot of bubble teams choked today.
Atleast my Gators won pretty easily, it looks like they've got some confidence after winning the Kentucky game, which gives me hope, which means they'll probably crush my hopes with a first round exit in the NCAA Tournament again.
