We just received the He-Man press release directly from our friends at BCI Eclipse. They have plans to release a 10 episode "best of" in July (just in time for the San Diego Comic-Con) followed by the first season in the fall of 2005. BCI has acquired the rights to the 1983-1990 series He-Man and the Masters of the Universe (135 episodes) and the 1990-1991 The New Adventures of He-Man (65 episodes) as well as the He-Man/She-Ra Christmas Special.

We expect that the series will contain 4 sets (each season broken into two sets) since 65 episode seasons would carry a high price tag. We're told that specific information on the releases, including dates and extras, will be announced later this month.

NAVARRE'S BCI SIGNS EXCLUSIVE DISTRIBUTION AGREEMENT REGARDING ENTERTAINMENT RIGHTS' HE-MAN AND THE MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE TV SERIES

Minneapolis, MN. - March 7, 2005 - Navarre Corporation (NASDAQ: NAVR) a leading publisher and distributor of a broad range of home entertainment and multimedia software products, today announced that its wholly-owned subsidiary, BCI Eclipse Company, LLC ("BCI"), has acquired certain exclusive distribution rights to Entertainment Rights' classic animation series He-Man and the Masters of the Universe and The New Adventures of He-Man.

Under the terms of this agreement, BCI will exclusively promote and distribute both classic animated series on DVD throughout the U.S. and Canada. The first release will be a "10 Best Episode" 2 DVD set from the original He-Man and the Masters of the Universe series which is scheduled to be launched at retail in July 2005 in conjunction with the 2005 San Diego Comic-Con International convention. This release will be followed later in the fall of 2005 with the first of multiple DVD box sets of the complete series in "season" format, plus comprehensive and generous special features.

BCI has retained the services of two prominent consultants, Andy Mangels and Val Staples, for the release of these series and the production of the DVD added collectible features. Entertainment writer Andy Mangels is the best-selling novelist and author of Animation on DVD - the Ultimate Guide. Val Staples, is the owner of www.he-man.org, the internet's largest portal for the He-Man and the Masters of the Universe fan community, and owner of MVCreations graphic design company and publisher of the new Masters of the Universe comic. Both will supervise the sequencing and packaging of the original episodes, as well as the wide array of extra content and collectible inserts that will be added to the DVD releases.

He-Man and the Masters of the Universe is a landmark in children's television history, being the first nationally syndicated television program based on a successful toy line. Originally produced from 1983-1985 by world renowned Filmation studios and syndicated until 1990, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe has experienced consistent popularity over the years, demonstrated by its two subsequent animated series which aired in 1990-1991 and 2002-2004 as well as its multi-year run as an exceptionally successful toy and merchandising line for Mattel.

Greg Glass, Sr. VP at BCI, stated, "BCI is thrilled with the opportunity to bring these classic animated series to DVD for the first time in North America. Our acquisitions team has been focused on this property for quite some time based on its 25+ year history of being one of the strongest and most collectible toy and animation properties ever produced. BCI intends to give each DVD release the historical treatment it deserves."

Glass continued, "With He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, we build on our reputation for bringing classic and collectible programming to DVD, but we expand that focus to an even larger and more valuable licensed property. We are excited about this new added focus towards truly frontline collectible releases."

Mike Heap, CEO, Entertainment Rights, added, "We are extremely pleased to be partnering with BCI, who are recognized for their expertise in the marketing and distribution of home entertainment properties. He-Man is the second significant agreement Entertainment Rights has concluded since acquiring the Filmation library and we look forward to a rewarding partnership with BCI on He-Man and Masters of the Universe."

Wow. The only thing that could top this would be the complete Lion/Car Voltron sets.

This is AWESOME!! I can't believe all of the shows I loved as a kid are coming out on DVD... even the crappy ones. Sledgehammer!, Miami Vice, A-Team, 21 Jump Street, G.I. Joe. I agree with Zereul, though. The next step is to have the Lion and Car (even though that one paled in comparison) Voltrons come out, along with Thundercats. And maybe M.A.S.K. And GoBots. Perhaps Tranzor Z. And - ooooh - Jem. Just kidding about the last one.

Now I have to get my life-size He-Man sword out of the attic and recite the opening credits!!

I can't believe there's any demand for the New Adventures of He-Man. The original series may not have aged very well, but at least it has the charm of nostalgia. The New Adventures just wasn't good, at all.

I'm SO stoked about that. I loved the original HE-MAN series. I never saw the "new adventures", though...can anyone clue me in as to what that was about?

I'm man enough to admit that I liked Jem...I liked the music on the show.

Sweet Zombie Jesus, I can't believe you listed Tranzor-Z. I didn't think anyone else watched that! Of course, Mighty Orbots must also be released on DVD to really round out the set.

I am seriously dying to see if Police Squad! will make it to DVD. I would love to pick that up.

I'd be looking for "Belle and Sebastian" before I could die a happy man. Also, the news about "The Flash" getting the DVD treatment made me just as happy as when "Dream On" came out last year.

I must also express my excitement over this news. To quote Al Gore when Lisa Simpson bought his book...

"Cellllll-eh-brate good times, c'mon!"
Al Gore: I will.

Ehh, you didn't miss much. I was still a little too young to remember all the details fully but...The story involved He-Man being transported to another planet called Primus to save it from some mutant monsters.

But, you know that Skeletor...he wasn't happy getting his butt handed to him on one planet...so he followed He-Man so he could be in the same group as Megatron and the X-Men in the category of "Worst Intergallactic Fight Record-Holders."

I like The Flash news but maybe I gotta rain on some parades here...

The original He-Man doesn't really hold up any better than the new Adventures.

I'll buy this when it comes out, although I have a feeling when I actually watch it it won't be as "good" as I thought it was when I was 5 years old or whatever. That's what happened when I picked up some of the Transformers sets, and that series had better looking episodes than the He-Man series. Proud to share a name with the corporation that is bringing it out, at least.

The "New Adventures" thing from the early 90's didn't interest me in the least. It had about as much to do with Masters of the Universe as Captain Power did.

The Cartoon Network revival...well...it had some neat promos building it up, but the show itself was a disappointment. They actually put some money into it so it looked ok, but it jumped on the anime bandwagon too much for my taste.

I'd like Season 2 and beyond of The Larry Sanders Show, but I know I'm asking for too much.

Although on the good meter, Season One of Scrubs is coming soon (someone literally gave me an I.O.U. as a present), so I have *that* to look forward to.

Actually, this completely ignores two other things:
1) The cheesy-but-super-cool theme song - "From the minds of mortal men, the mightiest of machines:
TRAN-ZOOOOOOOOOOORRR ZEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!"

2) The Bobo-bot. Nuff said.

And count me among those who might actually pick up a Mighty Orbots DVD - though I expect we'll sooner see the Pole Position cartoon on DVD (speaking of cool cartoon theme songs...).

Edit: Eliminated the quote within a quote and some screwed up HTML tags.

Or did I just hallucinate that cartoon? I've never actually met anyone else who watched it...
